This is a great thread! Was lured here from the Kleen thread when rotovaps were mentioned. Quick answers to two questions. First, while you don't technically need a solvent you probably won't get an efficient extraction without using one. Ethanol seems to be the solvent of choice for food...
This is definitely a viable application for a rotary evaporator. Rotovaps have been used in high end restaurants and bars for food grade extractions. Aviary in Chicago has one in their basement to make extracts for cocktails.
I'd love to hear of someone putting this to work for...
I like this topic and the comments so far. Let me try some scattered thoughts ...
1) The vape industry is still in an early stage. It still seems like there are more people who dont know about vaping or are just learning than there are educated consumers (like on this forum). As states...
Wow...just discovered this thread. Looks right up my alley!
I'm headed to a buddy's house to watch football later today. Made a chile con queso dip. I like to fancy it up a bit by using real cheese with sodium citrate instead of velveeta. Here are the ingredients. I also decided to saute...
That's what I wasnt sure of. But either way you'll need very precise spacing between the clip and the part above it. Needs to be completely round or it won't work/look right. I'm sure when the manufacturer saw this for the first time he didn't under stand its use, blew off the spec, and under...
Not sure if I'm looking at it right but that pen clip looks like it doubles as part of the temp control. So the spec is probably much tighter than your ordinary pen clip would have to be.
Makes me wonder how that's going to hold up for people that actually use it as a clip. Looks like a...
That's very interesting. Can you elaborate more on the event part? What else did they say they are doing?
Makes sense since it's essentially no different than the beer/alcohol business.
This might be a good time to point out how truly excellent last week's South Park episode was. In addition to completely skewering the NFL/Redskins, they took a great shot at Kickstarter and crowdfunding. Its really drives home how much of a scam crowdfunding can be in general. The "backer"...
Update could be better but its par for the course. I still believe that we'll get a product and it will be decent once we get it.
This isn't my first crowdfunding experience. I've done three kickstarter projects before. The first they just gave up after 9 months...the design didnt work...
For filtration I use a cooking gadget called a superbag:
I use the 100 micron version, which is the smallest they sell. They are $40 with shipping so not dirt cheap. That said, they are dishwasher safe and sturdy, and I also use it in place of cheesecloth for cooking applications (e.g...
This is a great idea and something that makes sense for a higher-end vape manufacturer to be doing. I always find it interesting just how little has been quantified about how to optimize vape performance given how many variables there are. For Davinci, publishing data that suggests to...
I sometimes do what Grim Chiclets said. If I load up my vape, but only take a few hits before shutting it off, the next time I use it I'll add some fresh in along with the ABV thats already in there. Actually this is what I primarily do with my kief. That way I get a "full spectrum" hit...
I think they meant that temperature range for decarbing only. The issue with decarbing at that temp for too long is that some of the THC will start converting into CBN. Which is presumably why in that graphic they reference the THC levels start declining after a while at higher temps.
The...
This is something I'd like to understand more. If anyone with a grasp of chemistry knows what the actual reaction is for this citric acid decarb please share.
This is the part that confuses me: "It causes a chemical reaction and change in the material it comes into contact with, releasing...
Thought I'd revive this thread as I was trolling the internet for better decarb knowledge (like many on this forum before me) and stumbled upon this same patent.
The process he mentions makes little sense to me:
He first does "drying" step at 220F, which sounds like it will partially decarb...
Me too. Or a comparison of a few different vapes to see how much of a difference there really is across vape designs. I also was looking at those photos of the ABV in Figure 1 and wonder if getting a more consistent grind would give different results.
Looking at @mcrlabs Facebook page and...
