I was moreso asking about the thermal conductivity of glazed ceramic verses something like copper

3D printing some Vapor Related Equipment (Ascent? Others?)

Link? Not quite sure what the vaporlung is?? I'm looking for a way to adapt to a common bag anyone can find and buy (ease of use is main concern) Guy's - I just noticed this tidbit on the Brass materials page of Shapeways.com: Hmmm, so the question is, how does glazed ceramic do in a...

3D printing some Vapor Related Equipment (Ascent? Others?)

Not sure, I haven't had a need for PEEK printing just yet, so I haven't done much research, if the ultimaker comes with an all metal hotend, it might be capable of printing at 300C, but it might be uncharted waters. I know most people going to all metal hotends are doing it to print in...

I prefer slow and stead (I'm in no hurry, as long as I get a quality print). Your estimates sound about right, though In a rush, I'm sure I could print it in 30 minutes. Speed is also determined by infill percentage. I typically infill between 10 and 40%. For more solid items, I shoot for 60% -...

3D printing some Vapor Related Equipment (Ascent? Others?)

It is a rapidly exploding industry. I entered the market late in 2012 with a Makerbot (It was awesome to start with a calibrated machine - I knew what to expect when I built my own printers). 2013 seemed like the year of new materials. When I started, we had two materials - PLA and ABS to print...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Ok, I can confirm there is a major bug in my unit (@Davinci_vaporizer) The problem exists in my 1AA1 Burl model, but I know others have the issue as well (@farcus2323 claims he's had 4 different units, and all 4 exhibited the issue). When my unit has been running for 5+ minutes and I am still...

I believe I did see that on the Ascent thread. Good idea, but If I offered a kit, I'd want it to adapt to a standard bag - What's the most common bag used for traditional systems? I could probably make a silicon (food safe) gasket seal to attach to the mouthpiece. Isn't 3D printing wonderful -...

Thanks for that - Of course I will abide by all rules on the forum. I am still a ways off from selling any products, but it's fun to research and discuss materials. I still don't even know the best method for me to sell my models/prints - directly, or via a shapeways account. I will certainly...

3D printing some Vapor Related Equipment (Ascent? Others?)

It's not hard to lower the voltage of a DC fan to lower the CFM of it. I'm sure I could make a 25x25mm fan run extremely slow - just enough to fill a bag gently. A variable speed fan would be possible, but it would be more expensive to produce. I'm looking at making a bag system for the ascent...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

My thoughts were the same as @nigel - try at a lower temp! I start at 360 and work up to 400 - I never go above 400. Sounds to me like you were burning up all your meds in those first 4 puffs at 390! I get a solid 20 minute session on 0.3 (glass flowers to take up space). Aside from the bug...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

That's actually not a bad idea. I like it, but will wait to hear back from others. I know stainless steel is not a good conductor of heat. Wonder if there's a similar product in brass or copper... After researching the cost to print brass from Shapeways, I've modified my 3D print design as a...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

@OF - I can design a spacer in 3D and pay Shapeways to print in metal - I suspect brass would be one of the best ('healthiest') types of metal available to print. The other options include Bonze, stainless steel, silver, and gold plated brass. According to shapeways website their Brass consists...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Here's a quick mockup of my idea Basically I was trying to go for something like a heatsink for CPU's - trying to capture the heat while still promoting airflow. (I think my assembled mockup is upside down, the two openings for air should probably be on the bottom....) I don't know how easy...

Hey! FYI - There is a product called 'laywood' - which is basically 3d printed wood material - it comes in 3 color types - but it can be stained/sanded/drilled, etc. It's expensive and brittle to work with (before printing), but if you ever need someone to print those parts - let me know! I...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

It's definitely a software bug (in my opinion). Being a programmer, I need to test 2 more conditions: 1) Does the temperature gauge change when you set the temperature BELOW the temperature it's stuck at? (Haven't done that test yet, since I'm finished at that temp, I want to go up, not down!)...

3D printing some Vapor Related Equipment (Ascent? Others?)

Awesome to hear. Though I should note - printing in ABS and other exotic materials which require a heated bed are a PITA to work with. PLA is very forgiving and easy to work with. My Makerbot Replicator (first generation) had a heated bed for $2000. The new Replicator2 is a much better printer...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

I think it has more to do with the temperature. When I start at 360, it's totally fine, but as I move up in temps, it gets hotter - to that point of almost an annoyingly hot when holding it in those two spots - but shifting your hands slightly changes the temperature drastically into comfort...

    Ascent Vaporizer by DaVinci

Hi guys! Happy weekend! Finally have some time to review my Ascent since receiving it two days ago. I purchased the Burl Wood Ascent, 1AA1 model. The packaging was excellent, I felt like I really did purchase a quality product, very nice work on the first impressions DV! It should be noted...

For a sleeve, I would print with this new flexible plastic material - I print at around 200C (should be able to handle temps up to 175C from your GONG after use with no problem). It's flexible and stretchy, but retains it's original shape, even when compacted.

PM me your email address, I'll email you a 3D model design. Basically - what shape is your GONG - is it a straight pipe? Can I make something like a rubber cigar tube? PM me or post a picture of your GONG and a few basic dimensions
