Nope I don't know for sure, it's just simpler to do it that way. But even if it is in series you can get situations where one section doesn't work but still passes enough current for the rest of the circuit to work.

I love using the clear acrylic mouthpiece, I bought a fancy stainless steel drip tip but I barely use it since it's just so easy with the clear tube.

While I do like the no timeout I'm not really wild about the increase in size of the v2 Omicron. I'll prob keep my v1.1 for travel and get a Persei for no-timeout hits. Will the old style batteries still be available for v1.1 users years down the road for $30 after warrenty?
