Mine has lasted 7 years, with no sign of wearing out. I still want a spare! The rubber cool grip around the bowl... especially the top half can take some abuse if the bowl is removed roughly or with a twist motion. The bowl is meant to be gently"rocked off" the magnetized heat port.

The reason for this is that the "water" attachment, is a very wide parabola... and you remove the top attachment from the LSV, exposing even more of the "ball" from this "ball and socket" set-up. All done, so the parabola(bowl) and the heater cover can have a full range of motion.

I've gone so far, as to get a washcloth damp (wring it very dry)... freeze it for a few minutes..... hit retaining nut with a torch, while holding the base with the cold rag. Yeah.. like that.
