Michael already addressed this very recently There were some issues on the stainless steel version, which were also discussed previously in this thread.

@smokeydabear sounds like something went bad. I would absolutely send it in for warranty service. I remember reading at least one other report of a similar situation (though I think that person didn't have their Ascent for very long before the issue developed).
