IMO this is an unfounded concern. If you have a damaged unit, return or exchange it. No one is sitting around vaping on aluminum shavings.

Dabmats- I have covered all my work surfaces with [amazon] Greenrain XL nonstick mats, they measure slightly larger than advertised at 24" x 32". They are thick and provide excellent coverage. I mainly do this to protect my wood workbenches. But OP may be confused by insinuating dab mats...
