If you are talking about the Alpha Ultra should show green lights just plugged in and red when battery is in for charging (until charged, then green again). Other chargers are different, but in my experience something should light up on your charger without a battery being in it. Check your plug...

I too use an ultrasonic sink (although it is an inexpensive one designed more for jewelry sized items) and find it works great. However I was told that using ISO in the ultrasonic cleaner was a big no no. If you've lived to tell about it I guess perhaps not so much a no no as I thought...
