I must disagree @Mojo. I did not use a huge ass torch. The torch used was the one that came with the VM. I ordered the non-mica from a site in the U.S., so I don't know if it's exactly the same lighter or not. It looked similar to the one that came from Renee, but his was clearly better...

I think @RUDE BOY is mostly correct...it IS just the inside, up around the bowl. However, mine is very noticeable if you're looking at it through the bottom. Looks like timber that has been through a house fire. I'm not a terribly emotional person but the first shocked glimpse made me want to cry.

Sorry, when I got the mica, I passed the non-mica to a friend. I don't think she's using it because of how loud the torch is.

Ouch. I did not have that problem. As I recall, I was shocked at how quickly mine arrived (less than a week).

I wish I had known this before I put it together the first time. The coil does have a tendency to ride up and it gets mucking fessy. After cleaning up, I've done this and it does seem to help keep the coil down.
