I've found that Green Crack does what you're describing where there's not much until you hit higher temps. I don't think you're going hot enough though. I use 430F in my Herbalizer for "high temp" strains to get the full effect, otherwise the strain seems to fall short of what it should be doing.

I bought a GR8TR vape with a storage puck for the very same reason you're describing. It lets me swap the bottom trays out for different strains and keep them fresh with a lid.

As a general rule, wood burns and starts to vapourize at roughly the same temperatures as weed. If you didn't burn your weed you won't burn your wood, of course waiting for a cool down click is always the sensible thing to do.
