Just yank a bit. It is in there tight, but the metal piece just sits in the plastic. When it comes out the ring falls off so be mindful of that so you don't lose it.

It really doesn't get that hot and the seal is on the outside. The rubber compound holds up to heats over 400 so I am not worried. I have also not noticed an odd tastes or flavors but this is a prototype so I may make some changes along the way.
