Based on a tip from this thread, I use an arizer extreme q basket on top to keep the pad in place. And I use no top screen. Provides for good flo thru and I think the pad gets hotter while stationary because it was moving around on me alot also.

Personally, I picture loose wire strands, airborne and in the vapor path. I never cut up screens, nor aroma pads/coils (w9, s&b, herbalizer).
