I have had this issue as well. Very frustrating. My device started working considerably better after I took apart the entire tray and put it all back together. All 14 pieces.

Don't feel dumb. It's a design quirk that will most certainly result in lost mouthpieces for all. I've already lost one by doing it :P

The base end of the mouthpiece stem has a little notch. That end needs to be inserted first when storing.

I just started using 2 pads, like a little dab oreo. The top pad gets less convection, I plan to rotate the pads to keep the reclaim buildup even. I also tend to over-stuff. Even with the giant pads.

Nice! I had a nice set of the skilletools at one point but someone walked off with them. The ones from Amazon seem just as nice at a fraction of the cost.

I'm glad I haven't had the issues that others have been having. My only issues were with the USB port being a bit finnicky, but I'm pretty sure it was self-damage related. I put up a wake and bake review to share my opinions.

That's how I felt. HOWEVER, a few weeks ago I got the latest greatest heatsink/mouthpiece. All of the inconsistencies are gone. The mouthpiece slides in and out like butter. The heatsink stays seated in the silicone and there's no leaking.

With the updated heatsink and the crucible dispenser, I've carried mine several times in the last couple of weeks. That new heatsink/mouthpiece really makes a difference.
