The airflow is only as big as it's most restricted point, which in the Ascent's case is the internal glass stem holes. The spacer situated at the bottom of your bowl would create the same effect as the piece you posted a photo of. That part has many small holes in it which would actually not do...

Feel free to use it. If anything happens it is covered under the warranty. Just try to avoid max temp for the entire time. We suspect that the units we had heat issues with were mostly being used at above 400 degrees consistently for long periods of time.
