Assuming it has been used before, yes. Small particles will be trapped in there even if you brush it out diligently. As part of my MFLB routine cleaning I do a burn off of the empty box. I brush it out, then run it empty until it stops producing visible vapor, and then brush it out a second time.

Glad you're liking the lids. The black paint has held up well, but I've only used the black ones a few times when I wanted to be super discreet. Usually I'll just use my unpainted ones. So I don't really know how the paint would hold up to heavy use.
