My 'ignore' list was empty until two weeks ago. Now there are two in it. At a certain point, you come to realize that some people refuse to be good online citizens. Thankfully, we were all granted our own censoring machine.

At this rate, it'll be me and the mods by September.

@Rodney do you know why God spared Jeffrey Epstein's best friend, killing a young firefighter instead :hmm:

Actually, I have an idea. There was a story after the election about a Chinese exchange student whose dad is an Evangelical Christian living in Beijing. Her dad believes God made Trump win the election, but only as part of the Lord's longer-term plan to destroy the United States of America

I have to laugh at that repost pic above. Yeah, a miracle. That's what Photoshop is, alright.

(magic crosshairs -- as if the shooter had a cam on his scope or something (are there such things? must be--here's the proof!) /s

(on edit: Because if I had that first sight profile for a split second... no halfway competent shooter would--or could--miss.)

When I saw the end of the very first ep of 'Mad Men', I said out loud... "I'm gonna love this show" And I've watched it twice (something I almost never do, especially with six whole seasons). G*d, I loved that '63 DeVille he drove.

There were some issues I saw (continuity and otherwise), especially in the last season. But on average, it won for me on two factors--period piece, plus I fucking lived (some of) it.
They nailed this show. From the cast to the costumes, decors and props. And probably the greatest final of all times as well.
That last part in Esalen is the icing on the cake.

At this point Trump has to release the files! He's crying on his fake Twitter about the Epstein Files being a "democrat hoax" lol:rofl:

While I have a lot of suspicions, there is only one person at this point I am 100% certain was raping little girls with Jeffrey Epstein: President Donald Jebediah Trump. I was pretty sure before today. But now I'm certain

At least spread the blame around a little by releasing the files, Donald

Curious.... 'jebediah' ?

If you're comparing TCF with our beloved President Bartlett, I *will* actually re-enter your misbegotten state at some point and knock you on your ass. Me and Josh both (even tho he's busy running Gilead rn)

Don't forget... I'm mobile. Got a shower, toilet an' everything! 🚙

(on edit: I believe Pres. Bartlett's name was 'Jedediah', actually. But me and Josh will still kick names and take ass!

You're not going to like my opinions on that show, lol. I watched it when I was a kid. The problem is... so did all the Obama Boys. Unfortunately, they learned very bad and dumb lessons about politics from Aaron Sorkin.

What is with this, "it's supposed to be hard" to send your kids to college bullshit? On two incomes?! Why? So your boss's boss's boss's portfolio can go up 2 points?? That's pathetic!

This is supposed to be a Liberal's perfect fantasy world. You'd think Josh and Toby would look at this guy and say, "we're going to fight until every child in America can go to a public college for free!"

I more or less agree with this (long) review of the series:

I may not *agree* with your opinions on the show (or some other of life's wonders and disappointments).... but as the man said... 'I'll defend to the death your right to say them' (paraphrased) Put another way, I may not agree with someone, but if they can make a persuasive argument, I'll listen & engage (most times, anyway).

Anywho... I promise to watch the second clip, but about to finally hit the hay for a few hours. Once I watch it, I'll come back and discuss both. But, yeah, there's a bit of nuance I know I will talk about with the first clip. Just wanted to say that now, so none of my various detractors (ha!) would pick my response apart by saying I took too long to think of it or something 🤔

(for all:) BTW, apologies to the board (& regular readers of this thread) if I've effectively spammed it with posts the last 24 or so. I really am on a new Rx, didn't consider it efficacious, and doubled the dosage a couple of days ago (doc knows I do this; it's pre-arranged, so no worries.) Except for you guys who have to sift thru more chaff, as a result. Sorry for that. Ps: No armchair diagnoses, plz and TY! 😉
Pps: It's an inhibition issue (or lack of)

Well that sure explains a lot. Seriously, feel better !! Sometimes it takes a while to adjust the meds to be where they need to be. Give it a little time.

you seem to mention this in many of your posts, but seriously what is considered Total Socialism in Bazinga world? You keep asking about successful Socialist countries, but in your perspective what is Total?

I would contend that if you are a businessman, but i friend of Rapist in Chief and gave him a lot of Money then the resultant product is also a form of Socialism. This is that redistribution of wealth that you were looking for! Poor people lose their healthcare and the money goes to his Billionaires! The exclusion is none of the rest of US get to participate in any of the benefits , its only for him and his cronies. Thus is the premise Fascism relies on. When he was trying to get those last votes through the House he would say it was all for MAGA! Everyone else get screwed.

Case in point Tik-Tok . Last term trump wanted Tik-Tok BANNED because of its ties to China and how it could be used to indoctrinate Americans (much like your red hat cult). Now the Donald has gotten PAID and all of a sudden ........... Not so bad, they can stick around and this strict time table is ignored. All because he is personally benefitting.
My view of total socialism is that I'm in agreement with the definition and then add in the concept of wealth distribution, as suggested by Mr. Wolff and members here that support him. Thanks for asking and I hope this helps.

I am not a fan of Trump. Didn't vote for him.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. I have previously stated I believe in health care for all (with an individual mandate).

I've also previously mentioned that I've studied the Nordic system of socialism and found that it is appealing. I read somewhere that stated their system may run short of money because of the unanticipated costs of their social nets. Dont really know, but I wouldn't be surprised. Because of our social and economic systems the Nordic system possibly wouldn't work here. Before we attempt to bring it here I think we should wait a little longer to be sure it's viable. In the meantime don't you think the (government, etal) should be working to improve what we currently have?

Flotsam. Don't get a fat head but I'm compelled to thank for one of the most productive posts that I've participated in this forum. You had a question and a good one at that. You made no inaccurate and nasty accusations. Just take a look at some of those other posts !! Yours, not a cuss word to be found. A civil conversation !! Sorry for so much drama but when I get a post like yours it helps to restore my faith that folks generally mean well.

Donald Trump is going to kill thousands of rural white men every year so he and his fellow rich pedophiles from the Epstein Client List can get another tax cut. And so he can send unlimited billions of dollars to Israel.

Those dumb red hats now mean, "America Last, Israel First, and I love Child Rapists"

Ok... I'm back. The world is still here. Yay me. :)

On WW clip #1 (and I have not rewatched it again; this is from memory... )

- When the man says "it should be hard"... he meant that non-monetary effort should be required (in his mind) from parents & children (you hear him talk about his kid loves the piano, and the thing before that [my short-term memory is turning to shit, these days... wonder why?] ).

IOW, 'so that everyone has skin in the game'. He started with the financial stuff bc the scene was (presumably) about the aftermath of a bad day / period on the market. So he lost a good chunk. And on the salaries he mentioned... with two kids... I think he said he lost $50K out of the portfolio (?) I remember he was about $55K in salary and the wife was $25K on top of that. It was a fairly devastating hit, as I recall. But -- and I don't mean to be flip about this... the markets have always managed to recover after big losses (and in shorter periods of time, compared to '29 and it taking until the 1950's to crawl back. And that took the aftermath of WW2 to ensure that it did. )

Sorkin's character probably recovered the college fund a couple years later, if we're comparing WWH (West Wing History) to RH. The other thing? He HAD a market portfolio (I believe he did say 'portfolio', which meant he had at least somewhat diverse holdings). So many families did not / do not / will not ever. The average family at that time was probably looking at Pell / Stafford. IOW, incurring debt. 25yrs ago, it was juuuuust coming into vogue that college was 'mandatory', and a lot of deserving kids just didn't get to go. Many feigned interest in blue-collar and went that way, bc there really was no alternative. Our character example is decidedly white collar (although a beer drinker) :)

Finally, the idea of 'free college' (it's early, and I can't remember the fancy term) wasn't on the average person's radar, but by 1999, there were conversations about getting the first 2yrs out of the way with as little financial burden to the student / family as possible. Did anything (substantial) result from those conversations? No, but they *were* held.

(BTW, I added the above two paragraphs, last to my reply, and I already know (?) it will be the most contentious with you... lol). It's contentious with me, bc it's sort of a mishmash to finish, but that's pretty much what you get from me... 1st drafts (why I love the edit button so... ) :D

Back in 1999... $75K for family of 4 was probably 'middle of the middle class' (I remember my salary back then, and I was doing just a little better, personally -- but I was also a SINK, at the time). They probably wrote it that way, to acquiesce to your other point -- the 'middle of the road' writing that's de rigueur (sp?) for network TV, especially back then. That's where the greatest market share is, and where the prime ad dollars go. Was this part of the big Tues / Thurs blocks on NBC, back then? I remember the money presses were working overtime at NBCU, back then (Friends, Mad About You, etc., etc.). Shows how much about that time period I remember, but that was 25 years ago, and I was a younger bull in my prime.

I only remember 1999 because I did look it up quickly, for this. So that's why the time range, in perspective.

Now... the other clip is going to take me a little time to get through, but I will, as I respect you too much at this point not to watch something specifically directed at me. (see how comity works, newer members? LOL) So, when I get through that, I'll make another post on that (better anyway... imagine the length of this post if I did both clips at once... LMAO)

Time for bkfst and another hippie speedball... ;)

Actually, I can still edit this post, so I can give my opinion now....1st take....

- Yes, it is a bit long. But it's also funny. I laughed -- audibly, at points, and I do suffer from anhedonia (no cap).

- There's not much I can say to refute either you or them, on their arguments / views. I can't even use the "well, that was a different time" argument, at least not effectively. Not in hindsight.

Ok... back a little quicker than I thought (but nowhere near 'ready' to rebut... )

4:22 or so in (oh, hell, we know what timestamp we want!)... the young lady (listen to me!) Amber says "yeah, it's still entertaining, even though it's SO fucked up. Me and Brendan watched it for the first time, *stoned* out of our minds".

And, thus, why I'm back so quickly... I thought last night: "Should I rewatch this sumbitch? Seven seasons???"

I realize after the woman's her comment... I'd probably *have* to be stoned to rewatch it, in hindsight. SO much has changed. In fact, my friend Lucy is coming by for a visit, soon. I'll watch season one with her (but that won't be for this post... lol)

Last thing before I go back to watching... it took me For.Fucking.EVAH to find it. YT is filled with little WW clips that the show posted on the site.
I finally had to search by author, upon which it came up. And then after seeing it as a popular title search, I said... oh... these guys have some notoriety (the good kind). And 4:22 in (actually, much earlier than that), I'm reminded of Young Turks, a couple of decades ago when Air America was on XM radio (*there's* a chestnut). (PS: If you're going to compare Chapo <> YT, do it now, while I'm finishing the show. I have my own opinion of Cenk; let's see how we line up on *that* one :) 🥊🥊

Anyway... back to listening. It looks to be a straight podcast w/ no video, so I might as well stream this to another room, put the headphones on, and enjoy for another 45min over a bowl or two. More later, after I'm done listening.

I probably should take notes... remembering 45min worth of commentary can be a bit challenging, especially if one is expected to critique / debate it. And I have the feeling that my first clip analysis (prior post) is NOT going to help me at all with this podcast. 😱

I have my own opinion of Cenk

I've never liked The Young Turks mostly because I found Cenk to be loud and annoying. I heard he said Dems lost in 2024 because they wouldn't throw trans people under the bus, which is very stupid analysis!

I don't think Chapo is going to be everyone's cup of tea. Generally, I recommend The Majority Report to Liberals who want to hear perspectives outside of the billionaire owned news media.

I honestly don't remember much about The West Wing. But I do vivdly remember the sequel:

I thought this shit slapped when it first came out, lol. Aaron Sorkin loves it when a very smart, fast talking man (ie, Aaron Sorkin) tells some dumb BROAD why she's so fucking STUPID!

We are of like minds on Cenk.
I did like *this* episode, at least (see my revised post, above, and congrats)

I think the reason I don't listen to podcasts often is because I can't multitask, like I can do when I have music on (and I have to have music now, after having gone without it for so long... TMI, I'm sure, but... yeah.) I can still read, with music, but not with a podcast. I think that makes sense, at least to my addled mind. When I was working, drivetime was radio time (yeah, terrestrial!). Thankfully, I can multitask while driving (just like everyone else!)

I recognize Sorkin by name, and he's probably done a million shows, and I've probably liked 99% of them. Now I have a new project: To boldly go where... no, fuck... wrong guy. Uh... to figure out just how much influence Mr. Sorkin truly has had on my (and, thus 'Murica's!) worldview.
