The Nomad From Morwood

Since a bunch of us are about to actually need them (exciting!!!), what batteries are people using? I saw Molicel P26A and P28As both mentioned previously, but that was about a year ago so not sure if anything has changed.

Hahaha! That's funny.
I think these are the same questions that come up with every Dan Morrison drop (or elsewhere on Fuckcombustion)!!

-Which 18650 batteries?
As far as I know, we're still looking at the Molicel P26A or P28A.
I don't think Mooch has made any new recommendations... but it's worth checking.

-Which cases?
Stef and Dan's case seems perfect to me.
But some people find it too expensive or want something sturdier or bigger.
So there are good Vatra or Ryot cases.
Others have bought unbranded hard or semi-rigid cases.

-Which stems?
Dan's wooden stems are incredible in terms of finish and quality.
My pearwood stem occasionally serves as a WPA. For glass stems, check out High Artisan or Good Vibes Boro. Both have opened a Toad section. With a few exceptions, I suppose, they're also compatible with the Nomad 2.
There's also TsWoodenart, which offers condenser mouthpieces.
I imagine there are others, but here are the ones I'm thinking of.
All three accept custom orders.

-For maintenance and removing the patina, look for this: "The Beadsmith Shine Rite."

And.... there you go.... if you're interested,
for flowers, personally, I prefer those grown in Living Soil Organic (LSO)...
but that's rarely asked here! Just kidding.

There you go, happy preparing for the reception!!
Enjoy it!!!

Ps : @jds Did you choose the wood species before or after receiving the first one?
The contrast between the two is incredible! Bravo! Enjoy!

Edit: It's a small budget, but buying two buttons can allow you to completely change the look, style, and character/personality of your Nomad...
It's a purchase worth seriously considering, in my opinion...

Have a good Friday, Team Nomad!!!

For the cells of the current breed compatible with the Nomad (any heater):

- Molicel P26A / P28A / P28B and the newest P30B (negligible gain for this application, so contrast vs price)
- Samsung 25S / 30Q (prefer 25S over older 25R, consider also 20S for hotter vape but shorter runtime)
- LG HJ2 (only model I recommend atm but they are cracking down on resellers so LG cells are harder to find, this one replaces HG2)
- Sony/Murata VTC5A / VTC5C / VTC5D / VTC6 (they are pricey and I was not impressed with the ones I got)
- Sanyo/Panasonic UR18650-NSX

On the cheaper side (true Chinese manufacturers, not rewraps):
- EVE 25P
- Sinowatt 25SP / 30SP
- Tenpower 25PG / 26ME
- BAK N18650COP
- DMEGC 25P

PS: don't dismiss the Chinese ones, the latest tab-less designs outperform the latest Molicel in the larger format segment, and they are making huge progress thanks to their ever-growing domestic EV market. Plus Molicel are from Taiwan anyway, everything comes from Asia these days.

-Which cases?
if anyone's looking for a custom-made leather case for their Nomad 2 in the spirit of the ones I make for the Toad, don't worry, just send me your unit and I'll get it done:party::whip::D

Joking aside, the Toad's should fit the bill in terms of dimensions, and with the N2's measurements, I could do it too.

No I made the wood choice before, so it was total luck. But I agree hickory and African blackwood fit together well, the yin and yang of Nomads.

That Spalted Tamarind is a revelation.
But damn that Spalted Maple Burl!
So dynamic and alive. Congrats to the owners!

The way the brass is inlaid perfectly flush/true on EVERY SINGLE ONE… just tremendous.

Ha… you picked out two of my favourites from the batch there!

Fortunately, I am delighted to say that one of them (the Spalted Maple Burl - Nomad 2 #45) is mine and will shortly be winging its way across the pond to line up alongside Nomad 1 #132.

I can’t thank Dan enough for all of the dedicated hard work he has put in to manufacturing these Nomads. Yes, they have taken a while but personally, I never had any doubt that they would be finished. The world is a better place for these outstanding items of functional art and I am extremely fortunate to have two of them in my life 💯🙏👏

Thanks @fangorn and @KeroZen the extensive write ups.

About to order two p28a's for 6 bucks each on imrbatteries.com; do you know of they're still one of the most reliable sites?

@seriousTone

I "liked" your message to agree, then I retracted it.
I thought I ordered from them, but I didn't.
I prefer not to say anything stupid!

Since I am on the American continent, I order from them

good research!

In related battery news, I recently picked up some Molicel p30s to replace the played-out set of p26s I use in my Toad— they’re the same heaters as the Nomad.

The performance jump from my 3yr-old p26s (with lots of cycles) has been huge. I’d been doing ~:25 draws, but with the new p30s, I basically have to cut them in half or things start to get spicy.

Probably the thickest clouds I’ve ever blown with the low heater. Up there with the high. And the 400mAh bump should give a few more draws.

tl;dr Heartily recommend the p30s though, in my case, any new battery prolly would have done.

Damn kind of wish I had gotten these.

But just received my pair of p28A's, now completely ready for the Nomad delivery.

I wonder if it'll get delivered just in time for my birthday in thr beginning of May...

Goodluck to you @Zuhdj and all you batch 3ers!
