Would you consider this a blemish? Was sold at full price. It's very obvious and draws the eye immediately.
Hello,

This is completely normal and something that cannot be removed without polishing etc. Same as the line on the wall directly opposite it.

Its a result of the end mill clening up the floor of the grinder. Other manafacturers have the same mark.

Every Aroma grinder has this mark from day 1. It's not a result of poor QC. It's part of the machining process.

Sorry for the non ideal answer.

Hi Ben

Thanks for that. So all of them have this?

All the pictures online of other people's don't seem to have it. People.in this thread were also seemingly surprised by it.

I have two Old Mate Designs Aroma-3 both have the circular mark in the bottom and a line opposite. I assumed this to be normal part of the maurfacturing process.

Still wondering why both my grinders came in black bubble wrap instead of fancy boxes like in his latest video ?
Thanks for the support!

The OMD boxes are a new thing. I am always looking to improve my process and quality and got tired of the bubble wrap.

I also have fancy seals for them on the way.

Heres a pic of the seals.

If you ever purchase from me again, i would be happy to send a box (or two) for you.

My A3 OMD remains the absolute queen of grinding. It's so nice that, when my pregrind pots are found to be empty, it's not an unhappy moment. I can grind a huge amount with low effort, then scoop from the OMD to refill them quickly. LOVE the heft of the SS, and how it stays put when I'm scooping from it.

It can be hard to see/find sometimes, but mine has it too. I feel that it will be much harder to see/find after the grinder gets some use.

Is the grind from the Aroma 3 considered finer/courser than the BCG medium plate?

More coarse... That's why a new fine plate will be coming out... If you stuff it more full, you can get a more fine grind with dense sticky, so there is some control, although not as much as BCG (can't go upside down) but basically it's like the medium generally yeah

Why can’t it go upside down? I never grind with mine upside down but I see no reason why you couldn’t.

There is little openings by the bearing so it will get dirtier up in the bearing potentially so not a good idea, you could also end up with crumbs in your lap etc. It is just not designed for that at all unfortunately, but it's not even necessary. Here the benefit is the auto spin grinding for you, more plates will be great

Just recieved a new Aroma 3 with magnets from Vapefiend. The most I can get it to spin for is just under four seconds before it stops, although I noticed that in some you tube reviews (eg T&J), it seems to spin forever. Is that anything to be concerned about? The circular strip covering the bearings is a black colour in this case.

Also, should it be cleaned at all before use? TIA..

Nothing to be worried about, people with long spin times have replaced the bearing with a different one

I got the same blemish. Did yours come from vapefiend too?

As an aside, I never have much luck buying grinders from them. Received a Krush 3-piece (£50 approx) a while ago that was scratched badly (probably a customer return). Then later the bottom friction ring somehow came off while I was grinding and got mangled, outside the warranty period, Replacement friction rings are not provided by Krush it appears. Had only been used a little..

I have the founder edition and recently switched back to the original bearing. Spins for at least 30 secs.
Yeah those earlier editions came with a different bearing. I read through this whole thread before ordering mine, and saw multiple different bearings were tested, cant remember the reasoning behind it though

I’d love to treat myself to a ceramic bearing from the brand ‘Bones’, made in Switzerland—apparently the best in the world. They cost 220 USD for 8 bearings, but I only need one.

If I can find 7 other interested people, I’d be willing to go for it and then send a bearing to each person. Let me know if you’re in.

Best regards to the OMD fan. I’m personally still waiting impatiently for my titanium version.

Hmm sounds a little imperfect?

I don't think that's necessarily true? I have the original lickety split bearing, right away brand new it spun much longer than that and still does... At the time the other option was the NTN bearing? That didn't have color choices, was said to be a bit more, durable lasting longer? Though perhaps not spinning as long as much...? I know he switched to a new standard bearing that they were all shipping out with, and that is what they have currently, not sure which one that is exactly however now (but 4 seconds is short?)

Thanks. Not sure who to believe though, you or @Mickk :). It's closer to 3.5 seconds to be precise..
NTN black bearings I have go about 5 seconds. The blue one I got first goes 15 or so seconds. That sounds about right from my experience. I wanted them to go longer but dont see much point in ceramic bearings and losing the magnetic top so I've made peace with the spin times and moved on.

Mine is also from Vapefiend, and spins for about 4 seconds. Even when I put maximum force into it.

Maybe the ones sent to third party sellers are not quality tested to the same degree.

EDIT - Nvm, they just use a weaker barring now. Damn that sucks. I guess I'll have to buy another one myself. I think the manufacturer should offer the grinder with no bearing if we have to stump up the cash for a semi decent one ourselves. It would save us money in the total cost.
