anyone able to help me pick a vvps? located in australia so couldnt get the one on the site, looking at this one atm https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/114549580478 though there are some cheaper (uglier) options too. curious what impact amperage has? the underdog site says at least 1a and 2-5a better, what impact does it have?

anything else i should be looking at also? thanks!

If you can source all the Australia specific things you’ll need listed in the instructions, you’ll be very happy with this vvps. A dual unit connected to a 24v or more input will allow you to run two devices at once.

I think Red basically stocks them on demand. Also it could not be simpler to assemble. I don't begrudge Red charging a fair price for labor, but I can imagine it taking anyone more than 30 minutes to assemble.
Good to know!

Totally agree, very easy to assemble, took about 15mins for me to assemble my first one. It was a single, I was purposely moving at a snail’s pace and pausing the help video. Hardest part for me was getting my hands to cooperate with the small space, but it was a very low frustration quick assembly.

I have a duplex shell that’s been gathering dust, need to order a couple of PSU and get it running.

my ud just arrived! its so much smaller than i expected! unfortunately my vvps hasnt arrived yet but i was able to find a 12v2a dc power supply among my cable collection and that seems to work, though obviously right at the upper end of the voltage range, having to pull the stem off seconds into the hit each time as it starts to feel like itll combust otherwise.

any suggestions about how to store the stems between hits? the bowls contents just fall out if you just lay it down so thats no bueno, but dont really have many other ideas. wasnt something that i had even considered about a log!

If you have an adjustable screen you can push it down a little to incease the distance between heater and herb. Should help a bit with the hotter temp. For stem storage I like wood blocks with holes.

Upside down usage with a wpa on a wet or dry water piece. Or a j-hook. Stem storage between hits problem solved.

I have an idea for another wireless log setup…

Does anyone see this NOT working?

I already have the Milwaukee batteries and the 12v led dimmer from another log so I would just need the adapter. It’s only $20. It says it has a 12v dc 3amp out. Should work..

Hey everyone, long time no talk.

I apologize for disappearing and not posting or responding to emails and messages for so so long.

Many thanks and much love to the community for it's patience and to everyone who tried to reach out. I appreciate the love and concern.

While I don't want to go into a ton of detail I feel I owe you all some sort of explanation and this one's personal so if that's not something you're interested in then I apologize for going all TMI and suggest you skip the rest of this post.

After the fire our good friend Jesse took us in up here in Oregon and did everything he could to help us get back on our feet. He fed us, housed us, introduced us to the people of this strange new place and just did whatever he could to try and help us heal. We were close before but after being here for a while he'd become best-friend/family/mentor to both Amanda and myself. He died this summer, no real warning he was just dead in his house one morning and gone forever. We had just celebrated his 50th birthday a month or two prior and the loss was surprising and shocking and devastating for both of us.

Separately from Jesse's death was a close call/suicide scare in our immediate Underdog family. While it fortunately ended in a close call instead of another funeral it just completely broke me and pushed me into such a dark and deep depression that I'm still struggling to find my footing.

Throughout this I've also been dealing with some type of mystery neurological issue/illness that has just relentlessly kicked me while I've been down and has made it that much harder to deal with everything going on and limiting how hard I can work.

That's my dumpster fire, pity party story and I hope it helps explain my shitty disappearance and absence. I've felt the need to make this post for a couple months but found it too overwhelming every time I tried. I feel like I'm back on my feet now even if still staggering and stumbling and I hope it's a sign of returning to better times and a less dark place.

and again thank you all so much for the patience, kindness, compassion and love.. after 13 years here I feel like this community and all you amazing people are almost a second family. ❤️

Thanks for all the kind words and messages, we appreciate all the love.

We're easing back into things and should start being more and more active here again as the weeks go by and we should be posting much more regularly to our IG page as well so please stay tuned.

I think we've tried them all over the years and the 3-12v 5A model you linked is the same as the ones we carry on the site, if not from the same manufacturer it's made to the same spec at least. Those are the most reliable 'budget' option we've found. For whatever reason the 2-3A models have never been nearly as reliable, not so much because of the specs but they seem to be made with too cheap of components. This is the one I'm talking about and we suggest people avoid them. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/355132559350

The vape actually draws a bit less than 1A (at any 'reasonable' voltage) and more capacity than that doesn't increase performance but we've found the reliability to be higher when a power supply isn't run as close to it's maximum output. Example: a 1A power supply is going to run at 60-80% of it's spec'd capacity (and the specs are overrated so it's actually worse) whereas a 5A rated one pulling that same load is going to be running at 15-20% of it's spec'd capacity. TLDR - less stress on the power supply tends to equal a longer lifespan.

A tech/lab style PS like the ATM mentioned above or a (usually bigger) off-the-shelf model will be an order of magnitude more reliable yet but tend to cost 2-3 times the price of the 3-12/5A ones so those are the ideal but the higher price puts them out of some users reach.

One last option is to use a fixed output wall wart (say 12v/1-2A) and an inline dimmer. This type set up works well and is on the cheaper side of the options but the lack of display makes adjustment a little less precise. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/314433301214

One of the dimmers I linked above is a good tool to help you tame a fixed output wall-wart like that should the need arise. Stem storage wise we like wooden blocks with holes drilled in them (we call them Stem Caddy/Caddies when we have them). Of course anything that holds the stems vertical that won't be damaged if it touches the hot tip tends to work just fine too.

I haven't used that specific adapter but I have used the old Milwaukee M12 one with good results going back a decade. We don't usually suggest them if people don't already have the batteries but for people that do they make a great option in our experience. If you find one that works well let Underdogette know and she can add it to our 'recommended' list. :peace:

Hey everyone,

Dave wanted me to let all of you know that he's going to be even more delayed in responding to messages, in case you're waiting on a response. His dad passed away unexpectedly last night, so he had to leave in a rush today to travel out of state to help and be with his family for the next few days at least.

If there's anything that I might be able to help out with, or anything that needs an immediate response, please get in touch with me (here, email, website, or IG), and I'll do what I can.

Thanks so much again for all your patience while we painstakingly try to put our lives back together in the midst of all that keeps happening around here.

Hey fam,

So I still love my curupau alpha+, and I really want to get it back into daily driver rotation, but I need an alpha gong to enjoy it. All of my gongs broke and they are out of stock.

I am a little bit of a salty dog about how pricy gongs are just to have them break fairly easily. I was a also tiny bit salty about how much cheaper the alpha+ has gotten compared to what I paid, but eh, being an early adopter is a thankless job these days.

I'm not here to poo poo, I seriously love the underdog vapes and community. I just desperately want to use the log I spent nearly $600 on that has been sitting on a shelf for over a year, and I understand it may sound picky, but I need a gong to enjoy it.

Please help guys.

They had a drop recently with a bunch of gorgeous alpha dogs so it makes sense they are sold out. I just bought one to replace my broken one (gently setting a screen with a wood dowel and it shattered) I even tried to order two but they limit you for some reason. I agree they are too fragile. Can easily be made by any lamp worker.. might even be able to source some glass that works elsewhere. The inner diameter of the bowl portion on (my) 18mm gong from UD is 13.208mm and the outer diameter is 17.018mm. All glass has slight variances tho…

There is also the lotus bowl that is claimed to work “just ok” made out of stainless steel in 14mm. I’ve never tried one…

Good luck. Although I don’t agree with your take on UD and view that glass isn’t disposable. Some woods are more exotic than others as well as many other variables that make each log priced accordingly

Word, I appreciate the insight! Please let me know if anyone finds another source, can't wait to enjoy my log again!
