I wouldn't worry about damaging the device. It'll either charge the device, or it won't.

My limited experience (I use an external charger) is that if you can plug a USB-A plug into it (USB-A to USB-C cord), it should work. It doesn't seem to be true USB-C.

My experience is similar. I use session mode -- but always stop after a few (3-5) hits. I use the WPA and capsules, and heat is NEVER an issue.

The Roffu got HOT when I was doing the original burn-off’s. But this was multiple sessions back to back — multiple full batteries worth. In MY real world usage, the device barely gets warm. The silicone armor sleeve is nice (and cheap), but isn’t friendly to those that charge our batteries...
