You could need a new heater core or plug.. I'm experiencing a similar issue with it not getting hot enough. I have a new heater core in the mail.. I will let you know if it solves my problems when it shows up tomorrow.

There were holes in my top plate that I did not know about.. for a long while. Maybe I wasn't "inhaling butane" but definitely some super hot, less than clean air straight off of the flame. When you have holes in your top plate, the whole "clean-air" thing kinda goes out the window, at least...
