Vapir Prima

Last week Vapir announced a new portable vape, the Prima, through some PR blurbs and articles. With no images & no information about the vape at all, it seemed odd. Okay, to be fair, they offered up this:

four temperature settings in a simple device designed to make vaping quick and convenient, delivering a luxurious user experience. The easy-to-clean device comes with a removable and rechargeable battery pack.

Today they had a countdown timer on vapir.com/giveaway, where they are running a contest. Sadly, once the countdown to the contest start occured, the page is suddenly giving a 404. ??

It's time to retire your Pax. Vapir is launching Prima in July 2015.

Bold words.

Still nothing on the Vapir site. It looks like they've had a redesign, and this section just below the fold seems suspiciously awkward as far as layout goes on a freshly redesigned site. They fit three vapes in a space that was clearly laid out for four.

Hi All,

Looks like there is a new Vapir Portable called the "Prima"
http://www.vapir.com/prima

It looks like its available in 240v, 220v and 110V (so international models are available).

Details from the website:
Highlights:
● Digital Vaporizer Supports Herbs & Extracts
● 4.5 inches long
● Removable, Lithium Battery
● Brushed Aluminum Body
● Removable Stainless Steel Vapor Channel
● Four Pre-Defined Temperatures
● Sleek, Stylish, and Exceptional Design
● Unprecedented Vapor Flavor & Density
● 5-Year Standard Warranty Included (2-Year for Battery)

Prima represents the gold standard in portable vaporizers; it is a dynamic device that delivers a crisp, clean, and flavorful vapor stream from fresh herbs or botanical extracts. Four temperature settings ensure a custom-fit experience, while a removable rechargeable battery makes everlasting sessions seamless and exceptional!
Prima's Stainless Steel vapor channel even slides out of the unit to make cleaning and maintenance simple convenience.
The Prima vaporizer was specifically designed to handle extra-sticky herbs that often clog other popular portable vaporizers. True convection technique ensures even heat exposure and incredible vapor quality from first puff to last cloud.

Hey look it's the Summipaxicle vaporizer, But really if Summit peak's your interest but really wan't a changeable battery and don't mind the extra cost, Then this could be a great option plus you got the 5 year warranty on this one.

The Prima kind of looks more conduction than convection like their site says. Can anyone confirm if this vape is mostly convection or conduction? It pulls the fresh air in through the bottom and circulates it around the bowl on the outside and then enters the herb chamber, then up through the cap and into the stainless steel tube. It remids me of Inhalaters heating system a bit but I hope this vape is more convection so

It looks to be mostly conduction since it doesn't seem to have much of a heated airpath (so no "hot air").

In the world of portable units, this one looks surprisingly well designed. I especially like the completely removable SS airpath. VERY nice feature. SS is very safe, very cleanable (just drop it in ISO), and non-reactive. It will also help cool the vapor. Looking at the design, it seems someone out there could create a glass replacement for the glass lovers.

The bowl looks enormous - maybe 2-3 times bigger than the NO2. If it can vape that much evenly and without stirring (like the NO2 and Rise), it's a big bonus.

It also appears to be able to do concentrates - and that would be a first for Vapir (the NO2 would get clogged, and the Rise just isn't hot enough). So that also means (hopefully) that the bowl would not leak concentrate onto the heater. It'll be interesting to see how well it actually handles it since, as we all know, a lot of "herb" vapes say that can do concentrates, but rarely do it well.

The airpath brush also acting as a cover is a neat idea.

4 temps - 350, 365, 380, 390 (IMHO, 390 doesn't seem not high enough for concentrates)
(last in the vid he said setting 3 was "385")

He used CDB oil in the vid, not sure if that has a lower vape temp, but it seems low for wax or shatter.

The biggest con I see is that it's not very discrete - I don't know what it looks like, but it's not a pen or a phone or a flask - it looks like a vape with big buttons and bright led's. Certainly small enough for your pocket, but not something you'd likely whip out in public (at least in most states). Overall, it's not that stylish compared to, let's say, the Pax 2.

I'd have to see more reviews before I'd shell out $259, and to be perfectly honest, it "feels" like it's overpriced. Before I knew the price, based on the pics and review, I was thinking $175.

Totally agree with everything you said. But at this size, should be $150 retail at most

Just got the Prima! First impression: very well built, solid and sleek. I have tried it on the first temp with dry herb and the vapir is very smooth and tasty. Great vapir production even on the lowest setting and the herb has been evenly heated without stirring. Lots more to come, hopefully some photos for y'all tomorrow!

Can’t wait for photos and a review! Thanks for the post!

I was going to ask, if at all possible, could you please provide a photo side by side with any other portables you might have, so that we can understand the size with relation to other well known portables.

Will do! Should have it up by tomorrow...it's a very portable vape that's smaller than most vapes but it's on the thicker side and its got some heft Thanks to the aluminum construction which makes it feel really smooth and high quality. It holds/vapes like a traditional spoon or pipe so it feels very farmilar

Wow nice. It looks like it is pretty small. Could you compare the vapor quality to the Crafty and Mighty?
Or am I being impatient and should wait for a review? Hehehehe (I don't mind if i have to wait).

The portable market has just exploded with options... I've already got 5 potables, was looking for a stealthy unit to add to my collection.
First i was looking at the Pax2, then grasshoper and now this might be another contender too!

Hey all,

Another quick review from Toronto Vaporizers.

Quote from review:
"with vapor quality that rivals more expensive units like the mighty"

Wow, quite a statement!
I personally would take it with a grain or salt as it's coming from a retailer of the device.
But still quite a statement to make.

Cant wait to see some FC reviews and reviews from vape critic, Vaporizer wizard (buzz danklin), sneaky Pete etc etc.

If stealth is the top of your list, look at the Alfa, tiny and effective.

Thanks, but if stealth was at the top of my requirements, I'd go for the grasshopper or pax2. Both easily trump the Alfa for stealth and have stellar reviews.

This Prima is a good size (about as stealthy as the alpha), and if it produces vapor nearly as good as the mighty/crafty (which is my new benchmark) then I might purchase one.
But the Alpha definitely doesn't have vapor quality anywhere near the crafty/mighty.

Well I have the Prima for a few weeks now and I can safely say that the Prima is a great vaporizer. I really like the build quality and it feels very solid and reliable with the smooth anodized aluminum body and all of the components fit snugly and securely. I am really confident that this vape will last a long time and I don't really see any issues or any parts that may wear out or become an issue down the road and it looks like most of the components can be replaced if something should break or get lost like the cap or the mouthpiece for example. Vapir has really stepped up the quality with this vape and It really feels good. It loads and hits like a traditional pipe or spoon so I think a lot of people or smokes may like this vape for that reason.

The vapor production is great, super smooth, super tasty and its very efficient. I like to use it on temp 1 and 2 for herb and the abv always comes out the same color and its all thoroughly vaped. You get instant vapor when the unit has reached temp and even on temp 1, you get good visible vapor. I wish there were more temperature settings but I think Vapir has done a good job finding 4 temps that work really good and can offer the user a good variety to meet peoples different preferences. I tend to use the Prima until the auto-shut off kicks in, which is about 6 minutes after you press on and that's plenty of time to completely vape a chamber and get a good number of hits and if its not enough just hit the power button when the lights are flashing to extend your session by another 2 minutes.

This is definitely a conduction vape with convection heat as well so you don't have to pack the chamber tight like you do with other, full conduction vapes which is really nice so you can use smaller amounts of herb if you want, thanks to the added convection heat and/or you can put another steel pad in the chamber to take up some extra space as well for smaller loads. The chamber size is really nice and it can fit plenty of herb and there is no need to stir.

So far maintenance is pretty minimal and all I do is brush out the chamber and the cap and you will be good to go for a long time until the unit needs a deep clean and then you just can take out the SS vapor path and soak the cap and that's it, so it's very easy to keep clean.

So far on temp 1, I have got 8-10 full chamber loads on one charge at 6 minutes each so your looking at about 60 minutes of total battery life which is really good considering its small size. It takes about 2-3 hours to fully charge the battery and it can be hooked up to an AC outlet or any usb port. Unfortunaly there is not the option to use the unit whiles its charging but its does look like Vapir will be releasing an AC adapter so you can use the Prima at home, plugged in. They will also be releasing a water pipe adapter and a water pipe/hydro tube which looks amazing and I will post that if I get a chance to try one.

The Prima is definitely worth checking out and I really recommend this vape to anyone who is looking for a solid portable vape that will do it all at home and on the go. People have been comparing the Prima to the Vapium Summit which looks very similar in shape and style and I have also used/owned the Summit but I think the Prima takes the cake overall. It has a better, higher quality feel to it, it has a removable battery, does concentrates and dry herbs, removable vapor path and you don't need to pack the chamber as tight as the Summit if you don't want to. The Prima doesn't have as many temperature settings as the summit and its a pinch bigger and heavier.

I will be adding more photos and information soon.

I'm not sure if you know how small and well regarded the Alfa is. The GH, when it's widely available, will usurp it as the stealth king, but the Alfa is actually smaller than the Pax 2.

I'm incredibly intrigued by the reviewer who claimed the Prima vapor was Crafty/Mighty level quality. I'm also very skeptical. I really love my Rise 2.0, but Vapir still has some work to do before I'll implicitly trust them and their units.

Totally OT, but... Indica is smaller than Alfa (and Quantum will be even smaller, with removable lid I believe)
indicaalfavaporizercomparison.jpg

(from early Alfa thread)

From the comparison pics though, the Prima definitely seems pretty stealthy, easy to clutch and conceal ergonomically in use just like Alfa, Indica I concealed by palming more since its shorter but fatter (how I intend to conceal my upcoming Zion 14mm single battery mini too)...

Curious about efficiency and taste, love the simple design and cleaning, but takes a lot to get me interested in any session conduction vape in these on demand convection days...

Main thing I like about it is the removable air path. Nice to get in there and see what you're cleaning. I like the aluminum build, too. Better to have something that can handle being dropped, right? No big fan of Vapir, waiting for reports that is melts in use, or leaks, pees on the floor, steals yo girl, etc
