Wow. Thank you so much for such a fulsome response. Before I respond to some of the points below, I have a confession to make. In the incredibly short time between my OP and today, I have already taken more steps. So in addition to having a gear addiction, I have a problem with impulse control. So my TL;DR - I purchased a Switch 2 and a Vessel Craftsman. I stumbled across a deal on the Switch 2, was struck with FOMO and that the deal would expire, and pulled the trigger. (I may have been medicated.) The Craftsman was collateral damage, along with some other accessories. SMH.
I think the best way to answer your question is to ask more questions
- What type(s) of concentrates are you using and how often?
I'm a total rookie. So there's a chance I will absolutely hate it and the above purchase is a complete mistake. I think it's a low chance, but I acknowledge the risk that I have floundered.
- Would you rather spend a bunch more money and have to carry an extra device each day or would you like your TM2 to be a jack of all trades of sorts? Just IMHO but if you're not a heavy concentrate user I would recommend picking up some vaping cotton (for example a roll of unbleached, organic japanese cotton would last many people a really long time.)
Budget isn't a primary concern. I clearly have more budget than common sense. I've never let what makes sense limit my gear addiction, whether it's nice knives, fountain pens, flashlights, etc., so I see myself having a "stable" of devices and rationalizing that options are cool. I don't see the Switch 2 as being anything other than for home use. Unfortunately my rash purchases make much of the below moot, so I apologize for (largely) wasting your time!
If getting really "high" versus really "stoned" in a portable format say 1-3 days a week is what is most desirable to you then I would grab some high quality next day delivery vaping cotton and start digging deep into the functionality of your TM2 (should take you all of 10 minutes). A roll is pretty inexpensive and if your concentrate use is primarily BHO/live rosin or rosin then you might find your TM2 will happily satisfy your desires.
I may still do the above and below, as I (as of yet) have not purchased a portable device for concentrates. (I've looked at the Pivot.) I do have the dosing capsules, so the approach is appealing.
With the above types of concentrates you can squish or paint them into the cotton and spread them out thinly in the vaping cotton with any standard dab tool and then use your fingers to fashion as many ready to go dabs of any size you like into little cotton pucks and take them out with you, (the pucks just need to be slightly, not massively compressed bits of cotton that fully cover and meet the walls of whatever TM2 stem your using so that convection vaporization of the concentrate can occur effectively).
You could start at the temp you like for herb if taste is a big priority and and work your way up in temp on the dial until you find the vapor to taste and subsequent effect ratio that suits you. You can also pop your TM2 into beast mode if you want everything instantaneously inhaled in one hit too. Some people like to put their dabbed up vape cotton in quality dosing capsules to enhance the conduction (stonier vs super high) effects of their concentrate of choice.
Which is the right approach to get higher vs stonier? Sorry for the noob question.
TLDR If concentrates aren't your go to and you don't want your tolerance to herb skyrocketing and to end up deriving less enjoyment from your herb definitely pick up some vape cotton and try the above before spending hundreds on another device. You might find a little tweak of the temp dial on your TM2 and some cotton is all you need for rapid medication on the go if dabs aren't your preferred ROA.
OK - the bolded text is not something I had considered. So going the concentrate route, especially with something like a Switch 2, could quickly impact my tolerance? Hmm - my lack of impulse control has more than monetary effects....
If you live to dab (I don't) then I'd honestly grab a cheap dab rig and an inexpensive slurper and bucket off Dhgate or similar along with a powerful torch and some qtips and have at it old school style. Once you know what you're doing, which will probably only take one or two nights MAXIMUM the manual experience of torch and rig is hard to beat.
I may still have to do some homework and look into this, as it might be cool to learn an old school approach.
Tafee Bowle 2 as an upgrade just for dabbing I wouldn't recommend personally.. It's still a pure convection vape like the TM2, (aesthetics and lack of modularity aside it IS to me a better herb vape than TM2) but its a lot of money to outlay for a pretty similar vape signature/type of effect.
Agreed. If that device was just a little less expensive, I might pick one up. (See above rationalization about having redundant devices.)
You could pick up another vape with that money that will give you much stonier effects (conduction hybrid) from your herb and likely one hit your concentrates a little quicker too.
Good idea. Any you suggest?
Best of luck with it, I hope you find a means of medicating that's satisfactory to you and your lifestyle
Thank you!
