MadHeaters Shipping Thread

A new EO is in effect, and we aren't benefiting. This NY Times article (paywalled) explains what it means for consumers and businesses like MH. Select excerpts:

Earlier this month, President Trump closed a longstanding loophole that had allowed a flood of inexpensive Chinese goods to be mailed to the United States without any tariffs.

Starting on May 2, those packages faced a tariff of 120 percent or a $100 flat fee.

After the United States and China agreed this week to a temporary truce in trade tensions, that tariff is now 54 percent. The changes, which took effect on Wednesday, were described in a White House executive order and guidance from Customs and Border Protection.
---
Under the rules for de minimis shipments, carriers of international mail packages can pay either the 54 percent tariff or the fee of $100 per package. In practice, that means a $10 pair of cargo pants on Shein would be taxed $5.40 if the carrier chose the tariff, but for a package with 25 pairs of cargo pants, it would be cheaper to pay the flat fee. One caveat: Carriers must use the option they choose — either the tariff or the fee — on all packages they ship, and can elect to change only once a month.

"Carriers must use the option they choose — either the tariff or the fee — on all packages they ship, and can elect to change only once a month." That sounds like it could really complicate things...

Edit: Wouldn't that make it far more economical to import the T2s in larger quantities as to exceed the $800 value mark, pay a smaller tariff rate of 30-ish%, and then send out individual parcels once in the States? I'm guessing the whole idea here is to deter direct sales from China. Trump would rather you buy your stuff through a middleman who is presumably American. MAD Heaters, LLC based in Delaware coming soon!!

Liking Jaanky's idea quite a bit myself
At a certain scale it would make sense, but a business would only do that if there's a measure of certainty the investment yields a consistent 24% (or whatever) reduction in cost or a meaningful gain in market share. There's also the question of MH's long-term business goals, global demand, production cost, production rate, etc. There might be more reasons to not do it. I'm just throwing spaghetti against the wall lol

Unfortunately, spaghetti against the wall is pretty much how our trade decisions are being made these days. Kind of like Chicago weather. Wait a few minutes, and it will change...

By carriers, they're referring to UPS, USPS, FedEx, DHL, and the like rather than the business, so I think from a business' standpoint it's just selecting the carrier that has gone with whatever option runs cheaper each month. It's more complicated but I don't think that crazy since there's only so many carriers Brenyo would need to check once a month.

To be clear, none of this is ideal but at least that part would give some stability rather than having UPS etc show different rates from day to day. I really just want my damn T2 to ship. 😅

I have order 1607 EU and it hasn't been shipped yet, I'm guessing including the puple gen2 reload might be the cause. Either that or I'm totally misinterpreting what my order number is. 🫠

i have also a E15xx order numer and hoping to get a notification soon. but as someone who has ordered through the european site, i feel like a 2nd degree customer. why wasn‘t it possible to split the first batch that arrived in half for uk/row orders and orders for eu?

Generally, there are always some benefits when you order directly from manufacturer...i see this everywhere, which is also logical.

When we ordered we were told orders would be shipped before the end of May. This is looking like it will be the case. It appears Brenyo is trying his utmost to make this happen.💚

😂 I ordered my Tornado direct. A friend ordered theirs a couple of weeks later, from a different site. They ended up recieving theirs two weeks before I got mine 😂🤷‍♂️

Welcome to FC 🙏

the eu site is also the official website of the manufacturer. if i have made an order through a 3rd party seller you would be right.

I was happy for my friend when she received her Tornado , no more wait for her and she was loving the device.

I got to try it a couple of times before mine landed. I liked it , made me more excited to receive my own, knowing I liked it. 🤣 Far better than if I'd tried hers , not liked it, then waiting for something I don't like 🤣

Yours will be with you before you know it. Read some reviews , maybe get excited , why spoil your experience because someone has theirs a week or two before yourself.🤷‍♂️
All a matter of perspective.

It is possible for UK companies to collect VAT at checkout when shipping to EU but this scheme (IOSS) is only applicable to orders below €155 (AFAIK) so really is not a solution for Mad Heaters.

An EU site & shipper is the smoothest option for buyers and likely cheaper.

In this case the product is only recently existant so it is somewhat unrealistic to expect them to be instantly available to the EU shipper.

You could have bought it on UK site but I think it would've been costlier and not much quicker really - if at all. (I mean even some UK orders have not yet shipped I think?)

Hi Alberus, I'm based in the EU and I ordered from the UK website. I'm on order number 1027X and I haven't received any notification either.

As far as I know, the UK website is waiting for new stock to arrive from China (when's the date yet?) while the EU website has already got their delivery.

You'll probably get it faster than me, even if you ordered through the EU website.

Our time will come

I understand this all and know this. Let’s put it that way if there was any information upfront that oders through the uk site will have priority and the first batch will be used for that i would not have this 2nd degree customer feeling.

This really belongs in the shipping thread...

Let's put it this way,
The information given, as I've already mentioned, was that orders would be shipped before the end of May. 🤷‍♂️

Too much information isn't always a good thing 🤣, why would knowing that some orders have been fulfilled upset you? You are choosing to feel like a 2nd degree customer, 🤷‍♂️
Shipping before the end of May. All else is assumption.

Guess that's why I'm triggered.
My experience, and from what I've heard , Brenyo goes above and beyond for all his customers. Doesn't matter how long you've been a customer, how little/much you've spent , or where you live , all get 1st class treatment. A big reason why I ordered before any reviews were in.
