Solo 3 gets me way too high—what’s a good weekday vape to pair with it?

Loving the Solo 3, but it hits way too hard for casual weeknights. Great for weekends or a nightcap, but sometimes I just want a chill high without getting completely wrecked.

I ordered the Legacy Pro 2 but it won’t be here for months. Thinking of grabbing something to use alongside the Solo 3—maybe the Venty?

Looking for something smoother and more controllable for weekday use. Any recs?

I think you should try vapman or something from dynavap, for microdosing Ruffu, Firefly2+ or Lotus would also be good. I like them all.

Good to know. I prefer electric portables as a techie. Never really got down with butane vapes in the past. I’ll check em out though, thanks!

Not the FireFly2+, THAT vape is like sucking a thick milkshake through a small straw. IIRC you really don't want that.

While it is not portable, the E-Nano NXT is very nice for micro dosing, very tasty, easy draw.

There are a few things you can do with the Solo:
- load less weed :D
- use Session Mode and sip it, don't rip it
- keep the temperatures lower

I don't get any less blasted with the Venty, though it is very nice for sipping.

The king of titration for me has been the Tafee Bowl 2. Nothing even comes close. Press the Go button and it's ready before I get the stem in my mouth. Let go of the button and the herbs don't cook any further. Temp stepping is fantastic, or get clouds on the first pull via settings 3 through 5.

I also find the Solo 3 too powerful. So I use a Solo 2 Max. A little less intense than a Solo 3 but still great.

I think a log vape is what you need...I started with Solo 2 and never liked the high. Moved on to Enano log which I used for a long time while starting to experiment with DV's.
Have not used the Solo 2 for a couple of years. I don't really care about ever purchasing another battery vape. But another log yes! I have not used my Enano for over 2 years.
I would love a Ed's TnT Woodscents log with the DV tip to microdose.

OK, I just saw your response in this thread, and I’m really hoping it’ll help me out. Bear with me and perhaps I can get more advice or detail from you.

I just received a brand new Solo III v2.0 today and ran my first two stems: I am incredibly underwhelmed. The flavor was middling for the first two hits on each, but nowhere near as good as I’d hoped for from all the hype, and pretty much gone soon thereafter. (These are strains I know in other devices, from the exact same single-gram purchase.) I expected the flavor to be very good, if not stellar, and that was a bit of a disappointment.

But I also loaded a LOT of herb in those two stems, as much as I would normally vape over the course of two long sessions in a day, lasting me 4-5 hours total, and leaving me high as a kite for hours after each session. Here I got about 5 minutes of rushed vaping on each stem, and a half hour later I’m still not noticeably high! I thought that I would be blown away by the power of the thing, especially with so much product. That was essentially the trade-off I thought I was making, a bit less flavor in exchange for the “huge clouds”/fast-extraction rocket ride that so many people seek. (I am usually more of a long-term sipper/flavor-chaser.) But I am sitting here thinking I need to strike up another vape to even feel high.

I am hoping, in my dismay and despair, that your hints might help me salvage the device and the experience. In particular, since you have experience with the E-Nano (my usual daily driver is an OG), you may be able to make helpful comparisons (you see now how fated your post seemed to me!).
  • I will significantly reduce the load; I ordered some backspacers that will arrive separately soon, so perhaps I will wait for those to help.
  • I had used Session Mode in my first two forays, and did not especially draw hard … but I will try to taper it back even more.
  • I went with 180° C for the first stem, and 165° C for the second. I will try maybe 150 once the backspacers arrive—does that seem low enough?
I suppose it may also just be the difference in quality between my usual vapes and these digital, battery-powered, commercial portables. This is only my second such vape, and I’m beginning to think I’m just spoiled by my others and didn’t realize what a big gap there was. My usuals are the E-Nano OG, a Phase3 ZX/ZB, a Lotus, a Vapman, and a Milaana. (I also have an MFLB and a Sticky Brick Jr. that I wouldn’t especially tout for flavor.)

For my purposes, mainly looking to prolong excellent flavor, the E-Nano really shines. The Phase3 has nearly as good flavor, but hits more like a truck than the extended kisses and caresses of the Nano. The Lotus sometimes exceeds even the Nano in flavor on the first hit, but is not as consistent or long-lasting, and usually likes some rest between hits. The Vapman’s flavor is not as clear or bright, more raw and conduction-y, but still good, interesting/different, and it’s a great ritual.

The Solo is not tasting that great (and certainly not for long—such short sessions!). But then to not even give me any effects, and with such big loads of known-to-be-good flower … well, I am just stunned. Maybe I am just having one of those rare off nights—but that usually only happens to me maybe 1-3 times a year out of daily+ sessions.

Well, thanks for reading my long, sad “rant”. Does my experience jibe with yours? Is there something I’m obviously doing wrong, or something else I should try? I will report back here once I’ve tried lighter pulls at 150° C, with smaller loads and some backspacers.

I really don't think you're going to get the flavor you enjoy in those others, but absolutely lower temps, less bud, better to reload than do a larger load, the flavor will fade... So just stop when it does? Swap a new bowl! Also would highly recommend alternate stems etc other glass dry with it (not sure what kind of backspacers you got but I don't think you need them either??)

Thanks for the encouragement and advice!

I have a curved pill stem coming with the backspacers, so I will try that for my next go. I got glass backspacers that I thought (again, based on online reviews) would help with smaller doses. But you think those are unnecessary with the Solo? (I see from your … “signature”, do we say? … that you got rid of a Solo, but kept a Solo3, though it did not make your bold-face/esteemed category.)

Purchased TWO firefly vapes and they both sucked balls. Never could get a decent hit and the battery REALLY sucked balls!!! Both ended up in trash with Ghost MV-1…

Yeah I don't think that's necessary, and I think it would be a little tedious to load and unload with, especially once hot?? Spacers are useful in something like the IQ with its deep ceramic chamber, but they don't really make sense to me with a glass stem? S3 has the larger stem size, but the classic original size is pretty small and you don't have to load it full?? In fact it is better to have some space between it and the metal of the heater... They don't really hold that much if I recall correctly, but you could make them hold even less if you put a domed steel mesh screen over the glass holes, that would reduce the size of the bowl a bit too and probably help in other ways (that new stem should be better though, and there are some other good options elsewhere, but I really like using it with my GVB open WPA, he needs to make more available, keeping it upside down on hooks or other glass now)

Yep! The original was the first one, it's first revision, got defective one too that was replaced, eventually sold I felt like it was degrading, but the company said it was fine by their standards... Same situation with the original Air that I eventually sold... S3 was a free review unit for me meanwhile, and it is pretty great, nice evolution, more capable and customizable, but vapor quality-wise and versatility wise it does not quite compete with the type of artisan style I prefer more? It depends what someone likes, some people want this mass-produced style, I don't think there's a single one of those I've tried really that I preferred overall???
