The Nomad From Morwood

It's artwork. Functional, beautiful, amazing art. These things are heirlooms. Significantly underpriced ;).

Loved taking the journey through all 216 pages of this crazy thread. Feels like I watched someone's entire creative, mental, and physical process of invention. I watched you use a lathe to drill a perfect hole. I watched you make a damn screw. I saw the concept art, the crazy ideas, the weird and impossible number of skills you seem to possess. You're an amazing artist, Dan. Thanks for giving us a peek under the hood as you created something beautiful.

Yeah it is crazy. Makes you really appreciate the craftsmanship and device even more.

And really makes you understand that even though they're expensive, for the amount of work that goes into each one and how long they take, Dan cannot be making that much money off them.

Hah! Your assumption is correct. I'm in it for the love of the game at this point.

Thank you so much for taking the time to look through the thread! And that's very kind of you to say! :)

Here's a Nomad II package I've been working on for a while, the case is a one-off, likely won't be making any more. It was a fun experiment for sure!

I posted this over on IG, and here's what I said over there:

"The case is constructed from multiple thin layers of bark, glued and wrapped around a wooden form to create a stiff laminate shell. This shell is then capped with softwood bottom and lid. The lid makes a very satisfying "POP" sound when removed.

When the lid is closed, a leather pad seals the top of the glass stem. Leather pads inside the case keep the Nomad II secure. The kakishibu dyed cord can be wrapped around the case for added security.

Every time the case is opened, you're greeted by a wonderful birch bark scent."

This is lovely. As you probably know birch bark is a fantastic material that has been used forever by the Ojibwa people to make scrolls, housing, canoes, maps, etc. Really amazing.

The indigenous nations of my area use cedar bark to make textiles. I would love to see how you could work that into a Nomad, Toad, or case.

Perfectly made is right. The Nomad is the only vape I have where people comment on how beautiful it looks, while having no clue what the device is actually for. If only I could explain to them how it also offers unbeatable functionality, on top how beautiful it is.

The dyed cotton pouch it came with also gets a lot of comments. The quality of the cotton dye and the little wood button are just amazing. I genuinely would like a similar one for carrying other stuff around.

That my friends is my Nomad, I am beyond amazed at what Dan had produced, I was in the first batch of Nomad 2’s, can’t wait to receive it.

I mentioned this at some point in this thread but the body of the Nomad is made from Karelian birch which only grows in a very small area from where I am from but no longer live. The birch case is so special too as it reminds me of my Grandfather, he passed away in the mid 80’s but my childhood growing up with him left a huge impact in my life…..always in my heart.

This Nomad is so much more than a vape for me, it’s part of my home, part of me.

“The first rule of Nomad Waitlist is: you do not talk about Nomad Waitlist.”

Seriously. Forget you even ordered it. The first followup email you get from Dan will be like a parting of clouds you didn’t even know were there. And then prepare to wait another year or two.

Wise words, I appreciate it.

It's best to even forget about the Nomad at all while you're on the list. Then, before you know it, it's your turn.

It's like they say, a watched Nomad never boils, or something like that.
It took me a while but I've finally been cured of nomad fever. It may come back when the updates are rolling in though

I apologise for the many that are waiting for their creations to arrive, I was in the last batch of Nomad 1’s that had the option of becoming a Nomad 2, I chose the latter so I know some of what you are going through but believe me it’s so worth the wait if not even much more; I have just received that Karelian birch and bark beauty as seen a few posts ago.

I thought when I get it I’d dive right in and eagerly use it but I’m so amazed at what Dan has created I almost can’t, of course I will as not doing so defeats the purpose but when the lines blurred between art and function it becomes a different matter, I guess for those with a Nomad that might make sense, or is it just me?

But in reality the batteries can’t be charging quick enough….

Ha! I never pressed ‘post’, so first session with the Nomad and I’m really blown away by the results, ease of use and just the way this is made, from the heater module to the inserts in the case that snug up the Nomad to perfection, there is no detail overlooked, truly remarkable.
