Heady Glass Appreciation

Sweet thanks! I ended up going another direction entirely and nabbing this Eclipse instead:

Just couldn’t pass up this color way - it was perfect to me.

Now I just need an ash catcher or drop extender rec to go along with it and complete it.

Any other recs for a good one to pair with? :)
Jay Gordon (Evol) will also do custom work... you threw down for your Eclipse, you might as well reach out to see if he will hook you up with a perfect matching dropdown set.

Just a dude
@Shit Snacks Dude, you and I have such similar taste in glass! I love your Trubbler and right now, I’m half way thru a 14 Dali melting clock that Skobi is making for me. Seems like I’m on a little crazy Florida glass spree!

I finally got my XXL Trubbler in (I had Emerald make for a bunch of 18/14 downstems I have) and hitting it dry, it’s like a direct shot of vapor! He finished it a while ago but asked if he could keep and take it to Champs in Orland and of course I was kinda flattered. He’s a really good guy to work with, super honest and I feel like his prices are very fair. I highly recommend reaching out to him if you want a particular colour or combo because he doesn’t automatically jack his prices for customs. Mine’s much taller than a normal trubbler to accommodate 6” downstems but the body’s super narrow, I’ll defo get some pics up when I get home.

I freaking love this little heady thread, well done everybody!

Love this rec - I was gonna hit him up after Christmas to see if I could get one of the Evol Keck clips anyways, might as well see if I can get a custom drop down/bowl going too :)

He had requested to wait until next year before requesting custom work, and that there be no rush for turnaround. I am stoked he is available and am stoked to get something special to match my ADR colors...I am going to have this piece for a long time and am in no rush.

He told me that he wasn’t doing custom work right now so I guess I’m going elsewhere for the drop down. He is gonna send me the Evol Keck Clips that he made tho! They look a lot better than regular keck clips so that’ll be cool

Bummer to hear that response but glad you got your clips.

he said he would tackle small custom order from me after I got my ADR, but in the same breath he asked it wait till after January... I hope he still might facilitate the order but perhaps not, given the response you just received.

What’s the safest method for cleaning your expensive pieces? I was just cleaning my Chinese mobius knock with my usual 99% alcohol and salt/shake it up method and it slipped out of my hands, fell and broke.

Got me thinking about how devastated I would be if this happened at all with my upcoming Evol piece and not sure what safer cleaning methods I should employ with this particular piece?

Yeah unfortunately I was cleaning my updog conical recycler that is my go-to for dabbing and must have knocked the sink, chipped cracked glass uptake connecting to the funnel. Didn't notice until now as it had been sitting... Fortunately he says he can repair it for $50 at least, and I will probably get another new one from him too, at some point. So yeah I've heard good things about PBW and Dark Crystal which is what I think I should finally try for myself as well, for the environment too?

That is good you can get a repair for a good price! I actually just hit up Jay after you said this to see if he does something similar if a piece broke and he says he does - sometimes free repairs but up to $50 if it’s more badly damaged. Makes me feel a lot better that not all is lost if it did break

I’ve heard of Dark Crystal, what is PBW? And do you just pour it in your piece for X hours and then dump out and rinse with hot water? What do folks use to plug the joints in that case?

Powdered Brewers Wash, and honestly I don't know because I haven't researched it that much yet because I'm lazy and used to what I've been doing haha but as I understand it you mix the powders and crystals with hot water to create a solution and then use it the same way to shake rinse and then reuse? I am hoping it doesn't get sticky the way used alcohol does as I use it to clean multiple pieces at once typically... I pretty much never soak anything so I wouldn't really plan to with those unless something was extremely dirty and needed it? In that case there are silicone plugs for these purposes easy to find, many sizes, I actually have an 18 mm glass plug too an 18 mm glass plug too

If I can't get a bendy brush in there I soak it with denture cleaning tabs and oxy clean

I have added salt to ISO to shake off some lingering residue, but never needed anything more for just a cleaning. Salt, or any other measures are really not necessary if you clean regularly.

Hard water stains or other issues are harder to address, but for cleaning residue, ISO is my go to.

Yeah it depends how frequently you're cleaning, mine don't get that dirty, but since I'll wait a little while before swapping the water and rinsing, I find it does help to use a little kosher salt with the alcohol, much quicker to rinse and scrub any slight buildup

Well I couldn't resist another one!
Screenshot-20221229-204831.png

This 10 mm rig has 4 hole perc (2 on each side) under a wagon wheel style disc arrangement, with gold silver fume explosion accents... Innerg does recyclers etc too!

There is this other that one of us scored, that has the disc as a full-on waffle, criss cross grid, with marble on it too, but this one below is the original with 3 hole "pancake" perc below the waffle disc, though its smaller its still available at $140 (the others were 150):

I'm excited to try mine with herbs and dabs, it is essentially an inline perc to honeycomb disc, only with far less diffusion and heady style! Seems like he's going to be messing around with some other designs, good dude in Seattle, but he said he should be able to make a larger version, possibly 14 mm, which I think would be really awesome!

stunner!
I am really taken by Jay's designs, and also am super impressed with his consistency and attention to detail- my ADR will not be my last Evol!

He is so hyper focused on the function of each rig, they are sooo tuned to volume/airflow ratios and each rig seems to deliver perfectly different experiences, if you are seeking more/less diffusion or restriction.

Wow wow wow. I just got my Evol empire and took my first few hits and I’m absolutely blown away. I take away my previous comments about China glass being “almost as good” as high end glass. This is simply the best piece I’ve ever hit out of and I’ve owned a Mobius and Toro many years ago.

The hits are as smooth as it gets while retaining way more flavor than my previous cheap piece. Perfect airflow, incredible diffusion. I am a very very happy man.

Here are some pics with my current drop-down but I am having one more made that will match the colors and am stoked for that as well.

I had no idea these versions had that wild egg barrel that is so cool looking damn it and the mouthpiece is awesome isn't it??

Oh ya - to be honest with you, I was nervous bout the mouthpiece and if it was going to be restrictive. Nope, it just helps regulate the airflow even further. Nothing feels restrictive in this piece - it's smooth all around

Such beautiful colors on yours! Def prefer to the colors of the one I checked out in person today. Look forward to seeing how the one I eventually bought looks in person. Also curious if being Schott glass means it will be more durable. I really know little about that side of different glass suppliers. Just "glass shouldn't be too thin" & "boro=strong"

The Evol addiction is apparently contagious. Had the chance to try an Eclipse out today but wasn't feeling the colors on that one and ended up grabbing this frosted Schott glass one from Sunshine Daydream who is having a 25% off sale!

Damn you all it really is contagious haha I really can't justify $745 on more glass a single glass piece even an incredible one like this or can I lol seems like a great deal on the mini ADR in colors I like lava agua azul

Ahh Yeah no it looks like such a perfect design honestly I didn't realize how complex it was earlier! That barrel egg matches it too

what a stunner @ManFlies352 !!
Those colors pop and I dig the angle on that bent neck!

I have really fallen in love with my ADR, particularly the barrel mouthpiece. IMO that mouthpiece is so emblematic of Evol, makes his work so immediately identifiable and it just feels so good on the fit.

...I won't lie @Shit Snacks , it was fucking tough to drop this amount of coin on one piece, but I don't regret it. Nearly all my other rigs are collecting dust unless the ADR is being cleaned.

I ended up selling a few very sentimental ExtremeFlight and 3DHobbyShop airplanes to pay for this one without coming out of pocket, but am glad I did.

I also got a chance to try a full ADR today and didn't like the airdflow nearly as much as the Eclipse design.

That shop also had another manufactuer's complicated Klein/Faberge piece that had a larger version of that Eclipse style mouthpiece. I think they had "720" in their name. And that was a good deal less expensive but waaaay more restrictive airflow, which is not my thing. And I can now confirm that it is a mouthpiece design that feels really lovely. And I tend to be picky about that (pinched mouthpieces FTW!).

Between this Evol and the Scalloped Rick Bird Berry Milkball I imagine you will be seeing lots of glass for sale in the classifieds here in the near future.
