Old Head Freight Train

Damn I kinda regret not waiting for this one, What a great set. I paid more for my b-zero setup and I'm still shopping for a nice hard case to put everything in.

But If the price is good I'll definitely pick up a fusion engine. I like the idea of double deckers but not enough to actually pay for a b2/carb/dish/shovelhead :)

will be interesting to see what you can do with the hollowed out joint
Playing with the extra long hollowed out joint was one of the main reasons I pulled the trigger on the FT parts last week. I received the FT on Saturday, and can confirm that it is fun! I like to stuff a whole nug up in the FT hollow joint/neck with a basket screen to hold it in, and it vapes the nug dark through the core. If you try this, then don't push the nug up too far, it is best to keep the nug in the lower half of the neck.
Sharing thoughts from another member:

"I don't have high hopes for the freight train being able to compete with the other injectors on the market. There's just so much mass that's far from the coil... That long neck and joint are going to be quite a bit cooler than the rest of the coil-wrapped head. At the beginning of a hit, that cooler part of the head is going to leech heat until it reaches equilibrium with the rest of the head; that's calories that'd otherwise go to the herb"
On youtube there is an interview of Brian with Sneaky Pete where Brian briefly talks about his plans to make a tube bowl that fits up into the neck of the FT. Thus this space could also be seen as a bonus.

Oh cool! So that makes it work just like the standard stock G43 style (which I absolutely hated using it that way haha) but this will be so much better if they're designing a long tube bowl that you'll load separately instead!

its a regular 18mm female bowl so ofc its fits a vape whose heater sits in a 18mm joint. just keep in mind it goes all in, so while you have to hold your hot rod with the wooden sticky brick bowl, its handsfree in the freight train bowl. it might also get stuck in there, which can happen since the metal expands more when heated and will get stuck if you leave it in the bowl during heatup
Happy to report freight train bowl works great with the hot rod. Hasn’t stuck in the bowl yet!

PS Anyone pick up old head butter tool? Nice piece. Brian is right, fun to fidget with!

I have had my FT for 3 days now and really happy with performance so far. I got the complete kit and the case is perfect for putting it away. Upon opening my first thought was I’ll never get everything put back as neat as it arrived. But it was actually pretty easy to put it all back.
I started around 580, I’m currently at 555 and still can be too much at times. Temp varies by that much depending on the glass piece used. Nice even roasting with zero hot spots or scorching. Back to back no problem. It holds its own with other Ti, coil and ball vapes.
The bowl works fine and can do single to triple hit amounts. It is the same injector bowl from S.Pete store. The injector has not stuck to the bowl at all.I got rid of my Hot Rod for the FT and very happy with my choice so far. This one seems tuned just right👍

You pushed me over the edge, I finally pulled the trigger on the complete kit - will report back after I've spent some time with it.

vaped.
By the way Six Strings did mention he had some work to do getting it to fit with his coils, making sure it was tight without gaps
my CH coil straight out of the VRod fits perfect in the Freight Train head.
Just tried a few cheap 20mm coils i have laying around and other than adding a little coil spread to them the diameter is perfect on those too.

What do you think are the advantages the freight train has over the hot rod?
First is the footprint and one of the main reasons I switched. The ridges on the injector of the FT help prevent it sticking to glass bowl. HR having no ridges would still to bowl sometimes.I liked the wood bowl of the HR but you have to hold it to the bowl. I put the FT in the bowl and then let go if I want for a heat soak. I think they are very equal in vapor production but seems the FT is a little stronger and denser. But that could just be me justifying my choice to myself.

Loving the freight train bowl with my hot rod. At the risk of sounding like a complete ignoramus, does anyone have any secrets for putting the screen in the bowl??? I eventually get it in there but it seems like it takes a hell of a lot of fiddling. I freely admit that I am a klutz.

I am running at 540 now and it’s lip smacking good. 3 hits deep into some Gorilla Girl flowers and still tasty. Using a 10 in. Bent Neck Tag Matrix and quite surprised by the flavor coming thru. And still whitewalls. So I will be venturing even lower. There is for sure room to squeeze some more taste and have plenty of vapor as well.

The owner posted a short video on this a few days ago. Hope it helps.

tl:dr - Hard hitting, daily driver worthy ball vape. Buy it.

I've had mine about a week now and I absolutely love it. It milks up a large 18 inch inline piece to the point that it looks like smoke. Even the mighty with an adaptor would not milk this large piece up like the FT will. It has been the only thing I have used since I got it, aside from a couple anvil bowls.

I'm still experimenting with temperature but 600 is working well so far. One good OH scoop worth gives 4 or 5 good pulls and smacks me in the face pretty hard. Started at 650 which gives abundant vapor but can be a little harsh IMO. Given Kudzu407's comments above I'll definitely be experimenting with even lower temperatures.

This thing seems like an excellent deal for $300, given that it includes a case and a stand. The 18mm injector bowl is extra-it would be nice if you could choose bowl joint size when you buy it, but that's a minor quibble. With this kit all you need is a 14mm female joint water piece and something to load into the bowl, and you are good to go. Comes completely assembled which is nice.

This is my first ball/injector type vape, but so far, it seems end game level to me. It hits extremely hard and is easy to use. I'm excited to again get to use a large, high quality glass piece that I got right before I quit smoking for vaping.

You want a vape that can pretty much exactly replicate a good old fashioned bong rip, but with vapor and not smoke? Look no further. The head obviously gets really hot, so you want a large enough glass piece where your face isn't adjacent to or right over the bowl area or it might be uncomfortable. Fear not, though-this thing will whitewall the largest water piece in your collection.

You want to convince your skeptical friend (or self) that vapes can smack as hard as smoking? Look no further. This thing will sit your a** down ;-)

If you use concentrates a lot and want a way to also vape those, it might be worth it to wait for the upcoming fusion engine version or spend the jack for a FP B2. But if you just want to vape flower, and want a hard hitting vape to milk up a water piece, look no further.

It's great to read stuff like this. I was able to grab a Hot Rod and had a lot of fun with it right off the bat--felt kinda bad for folks who couldn't get one, and then Brian, too, for the bummer. So, it's nice to see something even more powerful and more reasonably priced making people happy!

SCREAMED my name this afternoon and could no longer ignore it! I ordered the fusion engine add-on.
How do you plan on using it? I saw the instructions listed mentioned for low temp dabs the quartz dish could be left on vs completely removing the dish for higher temps (temps I use flower at).

I have liked every single old head product I’ve purchased, but the idea of having to take the dish off while it is hot (maybe this is very easy?) made me hesitate on purchasing it until I see some usage reports.
