It's made from nuts? I have to reread the thread but so pretty and interesting a unit.
Edit: nut wood and Buffalo leather:tup:
walnut wood, to be precise :) thx, i`ll have to edit that lol

That is interesting, I'm not sure I have experience with this leather. How does it smell? I love the way my leather jacket smells when I pull it out for the winter.
it`s pressed, so doesnt have any particularly distinct smell :)

I love walnut wood but, to offer an alternative perspective, I will definitely be avoiding the leather case which is the biggest turn off for me, so far, with this vape.

I wish more quality, eco conscious & sustainable materials were used for artisanal vape accessories - instead of traditional leather. I understand it is a traditional craft but it would be great if these skills could be transferred & converted to work with modern materials such as the many types of plant-based 'leather' which are now available.

I hate to think for me to have something in which to carry & protect my vape (which to me is a symbol of peace), a sentient being has likely suffered intense stress & then been slaughtered at the hand of my fellow man.

Hope you all don't mind me sharing my view & maybe @420 Volski can explore some kinder alternatives to animal skin in the very near future.

Thanks!

we will definitely look into that, but as far as i know, its pretty hard to bget good quality plant based materials similar to leather in Ukraine, but thank you for the insight :)

But if you would like to order Vector Art, we could think of something alternative to leather for your case :)

Wow, thanks, that's some pretty awesome CS & I really appreciate it, although my SS Vector has arrived just today (currently taking an iso bath) so I'll see how I get on with that for now . . . . . but you never know, I may get in touch - after all, what's one more little rabbit hole? :ko:

The story so far . . . .
  • SS Volski Vector received from UK distributor (so bear in mind this could be old stock - 420Volski IG account shows the first image of the Vector in it's current form back in February, 2021) - all that was received was the Vector in a padded envelope - nothing more.
  • First impressions - it looks very neat & has a nice heft so thumbs-up there.
  • Deep cleaned with iso to find internals & threads contained quite a bit of machining residue - which took a considerable amount of time & elbow grease to remove, particularly as the condenser is not big enough in diameter to accomodate a q-tip (at least not the ones I have). I would advise anyone receiving their Vector to conduct a similar deep clean before first use.
Vector-Clean.jpg
  • Unfortunately, it also seems the internal condenser tube of my Vector does not screw into the main body completely straight, which means the corners of the hexagonal head on the condenser grind against the inside of the main body on the final few turns of screwing the condenser in. This results in a bigger internal gap on one side of the tube, where loaded material could pass through. Additionally, over long-term use I would be concerned the grinding could potentially create tiny metal shavings which could enter the airpath.
  • I took several, empty, shallow breath hits as a burn off at which point I noticed a very metalic taste. I repeated this a few times but the taste remained. I then loaded some ground material & took a test hit (no heat) - I found quite a bit of the material passed through into my mouth so decided to tip out the grind & nug it, instead. I have now run one load through the Vector, (using it in it's intended manner as direct draw) which produced some impressively effortless, light to medium, clouds - but I was still getting a rather overpowering, and for me, off-putting taste of metal alongside the flavour of my chosen herb. I guess this will fade in time, if I can get through it.
Has anyone else here who received their Vector had any similar issues to these or am I a special case? Actually, forget that very last bit - I know I'm special! :freak:

@VegNVape It is a fun fact that metals dont have smell and taste, it is other things that react with them(moisture, hand oils) and the oxidation process that emits the smell. That being said probably with use your head will develop a colored oxide layer which will seal the metal and it will reduce reactions with other compounds,so in a way smell will subside.
Maybe you can try to heat purge it if you fear any manufacturing oils are left, i imagine it can be done using a torch or a stove.

Thx for your review!

The issue with the screwing in is unfortunately smth that happens sometimes, due to the fragility of titan while transported :(
but you shouldnt be concerned that the grinding could potentially create tiny metal shavings which could enter the airpath - that wont happen, it is technologically improbable, our device is safe to use :) And as you mentionned, it is indeed old stock (from oct 2021, if its from UK), our manufacture improved since that tilme :)
the metallic taste goes away if you soak it in cleaning liquid or ethyl and such, or it will fade away after 2-3 usages normally ^^

And if you dont mind, it would be great to know what you liked about Vector ;)

would it be ok if we put your video in our instagram stories?

I soaked it for more than 12 hours in 99% iso, and vigorously cleaned it before fisrt use, but I will give it a few more thorough cleanings & see how it is after that.

Hey now it wasn't all negative! As I mentioned, the things I liked was it's neat form & reassuring heft - also the clouds came almost effortlessly, which is always nice :)

Not just you. Mine arrived with the barrel threads badly galled, and it still doesn't screw together nicely. But it's completely functional and I didn't want to make them do any warranty stuff. It was explained that these threads are hand cut.

;)

Which parts are titanium? I thought the whole thing was SS. You should ship these in three parts, with the mouthpiece inner tube and heat tip seperate to avoid damage in shipping.

I wasn't sure of this either so grabbed a magnet earlier to find out after reading Volski's comment (ti is usually noticeably much less magnetic than ss). I remember reading the materials were ti & ss in the op but it didn't say what was used where.
To me it seems the condenser & mouthpiece are the ti components, I think the rest, including the hex tip of the condenser are ss.

this assumes unethical harvest/treatment of the animal & subsequent leather.

I myself have made numerous items, footwear, etc from leather where I know exactly the person who tanned it and process it. I myself have skinned hides at a young age where there is 0 unethical practice throughout beginning to end of the animals life.

On another note - my Vector just cleared customs and hopefully lands soon! Can't wait :)

Hey @deadlytoaster, thanks for bringing this topic back up again (not ;)).
Regardless of how an animal was treated, how it died or how it was slaughtered (I'm not going to get into any of those things but from what you are saying it seems you have leather goods from animals that were not slaughtered), it does not seem fair to me to exploit the remains of a sentient being, who was unable to agree or disagree as to whether their skin should be used as material for a human accessory.

Additionally, just because you know the treatment of the animals whose skins you chose to use were treated well until they died (or were slaughtered), does not mean the majority of leather goods are from animals who are treated in this way, or are allowed to live out their lives. Most leather is taken from slaughtered animals which is, imo, completely unethical. There is no ethical way to slaughter an animal for human gain.

As I have said before, this is not the thread for this topic & I will be doing my best not to reply to any thing further on this subject.

I hope you enjoy your Vector.

Cheers

idk it's unjust to assume a vendor is using 'unethical, slaughtered' materials. I can show you in person how to field dress an animal painlessly, mindfully, and ethically for humaine and human gain. No coin is one-sided and assuming practices about a new vendor isn't just

Other people negatively assume the same from items I've crafted from leather, not knowing the origin, process, treatment, and respect behind the craft. I will assume positively of the vendor until given reason not to

I didn't really want to go off topic, but I think you missed their point, they think any use of any animal for our gain is unethical... Like full veganism style? So it's not about a given vendors practices, it's the broader philosophy that we should not be using animals this way... Sorry I just wanted to clarify because it seems like that point was totally lost on you, I'm not stating my opinion either way, I just didn't want what I perceived to be Veg's actual point, to be misconstrued... I think they are entitled to share their opinion on the use of animal sourced materials in paraphernalia if it is preventing them from buying certain products that they would otherwise like to own :2c: :peace:

Back on topic, has anyone been connecting their vector to go through water or other glass pieces at all??
