I love channeling the energy from some funk or metal into my pedals!

I told a friend once, "Always work at least as hard as the drummer you are listening to.", when he asked for workout music. I often sprint more if the music intensifies or do some funky maneuvering if the algorithms line up. As I mentioned earlier in the thread, I've been enjoying discovering more instrumental music that's good for cycling to make for a sort of soundtrack to my rides.

This summer, for my 50 mile training rides, I start with Bob Marley Kaya to set an irie tone and encourage pace over haste, and slowly intensify the funk thereafter. Within all of that I snuck in Jun Fukamachi's synth masterpice Quark, and the track Perpetual Movement comes on during the straight burn through the Jamaica Preserve....

Thx for sharing ur 'local' scenery pictures! I'd love to MTB ride a lot of that :). And it's great to see and share the music (jams!)/exercise combo w/ many fellow "athlete vaporists".

As for the music I enjoy, check out my posts (and others) of a variety of songs and music on the music thread here (start with the newest posts).

And why not some more moar crazy MTB... :o

Ooh, being influenced by the music like that would be dangerous for me... I'd end up hurting myself for sure!!

It's a really good point, maybe that's part of the reason why I don't do it.

On the other hand, it would be very interesting to take my cadence and the constant changes and try and write some music to it, there's a consistent push for regular steady pace, but of course the terrain throws that off all the time.

Thank god that pinched back nerve got much better :). I just got back from a mtb ride 🚵‍♂️. It was great 👍 (and no front end issues). >20 miles, ~2 hrs, 68 F, sunny, wind <6 mph.... just a great day ✨. And I included the two most challenging trails in the area (for both technical and cardio). I saw a total of five people on those two trails.... well, it was a nice Saturday :lol:.

This ride also reminded me of another reason I mtb ride with headphones and music... it doesn't take much bike riding speed to get wind noise in the ears and it's annoying. Bad enough I use ear plug type headphones for music. Runners won't really have that issue, which is nice.

Doing lots of exercise has really got me into cold showers (after). And I go with very cold showers when I'm really hot. They're super invigorating. Anyone else enjoy a cold shower after exercise. lol?

The desktop vape is warmed up and I'll be starting with some excellent Maui Wowie flower :brow:. Low temp strong sativa vaping is an excellent mix with exercise... and a big cerebral buzz :).

Seriously, it's a rare day there's no wind up here!

I may not get wind noise from going so fast, but I absolutely do get wind noise from the wind itself, some days it is absolute bedlam and I do love a good run in a storm, it's possibly a lot louder and noisier than the wind noise from cycling, perhaps?

Oops, forgot to say that yes, all is very nice here thank you, misty/cloudy days but looking forward to a couple of days of intense sunshine... a summery reprieve!

Here's a photo of the heather that is all over the moors at the moment, it's gorgeous, I popped the colours a little to try and reflect how vibrant it all is 😃

Got on the MTB for ~15 miles today during some nice weather 🚵‍♂️ . It was as good mix of trails again. Vaped a bit of Red Congolese and Ghost Train Haze after 👍. I hope you're all getting out there and enjoying some exercise this September long weekend.

Nothing like that feeling on a mtb when you're clipped in, you've done every thing you can to stay upright, but know you've lost the balance/momentum battle and you're going down... That reach to break the fall, hoping it's not all rock or tree or prickers or posion ivy or worse beneath you, looking up at the bike as it flips over your head, still clipped to your feet. The kind of feeling that helps you stay focused 'cause you don't want to feel it too often.

I am out of action for a few days, the new shoes have been giving me grief and I've got a sore bum muscle - nothing serious, but need to rest!

And I have some more new shoes... sigh! I will take them out for a test in a few days when my ass is better 😂

Yeah, most of what I ride is commuting in NYC, so clip-ins just never seemed safe.

From what I've read in the past I learned you get about 10% power boost from clips/cages. Same with aero. You go about 10% faster due to less drag. So if I pace people or pass people with both, I do the math and am satisfied I am at least 20% stronger. :haw: Also, without aero, I get a bigger boost from tailwinds I guess?

Safety > Comfort > Speed

I'm convinced that my weight plus riding a hybrid have kept me slower=/=safer on the streets. If my average speeds were significantly higher my margins for error would be similarly smaller as well. Like in a car, speeding has minimal gains and exponential more risks. One of my motto's is also, "save it for the next hill/bridge", meaning; sprinting on flats proves nothing, save all that gas for the next hill or bridge you will invariably encounter. I also know my routes very very well and know where it's safest to sprint or ride hard and where I need to be extra cautious.

One day I may buy a road bike that I would specifically use for 50+ mile recreational rides and centuries but storage is also a problem in my humble apartment so having 1 bike to rule them all is really optimal.

Ended up slacking off during the holiday weekend. Had a couple of hard to do honey-do's that got done and a sleepover with the grandkids, which means hours of pool time, but I could have run if mentally motivated.

For me....The mental aspect is often a bigger hurdle than the physical and each slacker day makes it just that much harder to climb back on. Tonight I'm going to lean on my "slacker ace in the hole" better known as "FRESH LEGS" to break out before it's too late.

About the clips...I've ridden bikes with clips but never had them on my bikes. To be honest....I'm scared of them.....I grew up in the NY Metro area and it just never seemed like a good idea to me, especially buzzed.

My favorite clip story was riding with a buddy after we smoked up. My buddy had no tolerance and when we came to a busy intersection his mind was elsewhere when we stopped.... he forgot about those clips and just fell sideways and broke a bone in both arms. His wife was livid. He told me if you really want to see who cares about you....announce you have to go to the bathroom with two broke arms and see who comes to the rescue. :lol:

Ouch, that's gotta hurt!

I have never used clips either, the kind of riding I have always done has always involved walking and carrying my bike at some point and any gains I may have made with the clips would be lost walking like a clown in the clip shoes 😂

I am really wanting to go running, I have tons of energy, feeling tip top, absolutely stunning day here today, more to come tomorrow... instead I am going to have a beer and read a book in the hope that it will distract me until it goes dark and my brain switches off from the idea of running.....

I do not ride fast enough for areo anything, but my
pain vs. speed ratio demands clips.
I check my tires every time I ride.
Air pressure rates are critical on trails!

Much safer than the old rat trap toe straps.
Easier to clip out hands free.
I did fall when a kite string almost beheaded
me on the boardwalk. Dead stop and fall before
the thin string cut into my neck. No prob, laughs and
apologies all around. Shit happens!

Whenever I have an injury, I immediately stop running and start resting, then stretching, then exercising - but starting off pretty gentle!

It's almost a second nature these days, seemingly I injure myself that much 😂

My first 'exercise' was a walk today, ~ten miles, along the canal and up through the woods...

I love this particular spot, so quiet and peaceful:
