United Machining Stainless Steel Grinder

Once I saw that the ledge is being addressed I just now preordered one. Looking forward to getting one as these look awesome!

I was on a quest for a grinder that was magnetic, threadless, and stainless.

One of my important features in a grinder is a big bottom chamber as I like to dig/scoop my S&B dosing caps into there to fill them and I like to be able to kind of dig/scoop across the bottom then flat (open face) against the side of the chamber to be able to lift the capsule out and not spill any. (not sure this makes sense lol).

The capsules have a diameter of about 15mm which is pretty much the minimum depth I hope to have. Not sure how deep the chamber is on The Grinder but it is one of the deeper looking ones I've seen so it'll have to do.

I've got one from the first round pf pre-orders and it is indeed beautifully made. I haven't actually used it yet, because I've been recovering from what has thankfully been a very mild case of COVID, so I've been on an enforced 2 week T-break. I'm looking forward to a first grind in it in a week or so.

You have my sympathy, I hope you're feeling better soon. On the plus side that first session after a 2 week break will be amazing. That's my favorite part of getting sick (:hmm:), once I feel better I'll vape a bowl, meditate with some good ambient music and as I close my eyes I have an amazing high. Until then get well and take lots of Vitamin D.

@SixPax
As soon as @DylanUnited posted those pictures I got even more excited. I can't wait for this beauty!

The United machining Grinder has finally arrived in the holy land!
the international process was very short - less than a week since payment, to process the package, domestic movements and international national flight (thanks USPS!). But the local process took more than two weeks of waiting!

The grinder is as big as my 2previous grinders: one is some earlier version/imitation of Phoenician. and another is the wooden Futo.
all three grinders are about the same diameter but the United is bigger by few millimeters than the rest. and also has the biggest - wide & deep - flower grinding compartment.

It’s very comfortable to hold and turn to grind. The teeth are super sharp, nothing stands their way. But I need to find some way to avoid the weed from getting jammed on the flat top part of the teeth.

The grounded herb comes out fine or super-fine -depends on using the yellow hole reducer. I’m still not sure which way I like most. But very much enjoying both and most of all - enjoying the consistency of the grounded herb. my aluminum grinder was never that sharp, fine or consistent.

I was surprised that the blue part is another anodized aluminum. From the picture - I used to think it looks like plastic. although the sleek insertion & removal - I don’t know how it will react for the long term with some wear&tear, But I definitely trusted the “100% stainless steel” mention. and willing to upgrade this part to be stainless.

another small issue I have with the United grinder is the small step inside the bottom part for the kief... Instead of a round bowl there’s a small step with 2 angles for the trichomes to get stuck and a flat surface where the blue part sits - for trichomes to crush and compress every time you remove and return the blue bowl.

Although the grinding process sounds pretty sleek - I think an oring is missing between the two grinding parts. Without it the two metal parts scraps against each other, wear & make noise.
(Actually the grinding noise of the United’s stainless steel parts is much more soft & sweet than aluminum equivalent that sounds like grinding two stones together)

I tried to collect kief with the small copper scrapper but it dragged and smeared the kief instead of collecting.
I always used a fine brush for collecting & moving kief. But now that’s a problem with the small step in the bottom part.

one good surprise I had! Is the bottom closing mechanism - the magnets are working wonderful! At first I was worrying of accidentally opening the bottom part during grinding turns, or just forgetting it open - for it to drop when lifted not carefully- but no! there are 3 teeth that restricts the turn and gives enough tolerance for the magnets to re-order and lock back, in case you haven’t planned to open the compartment

all in all I really like the United machining grinder!
I love it’s size, weight, sleek look, texture, grinding consistency and the overall feeling of holding a premium product on your hands. It was worth the two years patience since I’ve first seen it - and got my wish fulfilled - 2.5” diameter instead of 2”

I've been wanting a new grinder for awhile, I've never been impressed with my GR8TR v1. Decided after years to jump on the UM. I had been eyeing on the BCG for awhile because I liked the threadless design, but when I found the UM I jumped on that because I prefer stainless steel.

I thought the GR8TR would be the last grinder I'd need and it's never done the job for me, hoping the UM can fill that void!

Just a heads up for anyone with a preorder scheduled for January, they've been pushed back to mid-February. New pre-orders will go out shortly after as he's splitting the batch to get some out the door now with more following closely after.
I see the site now says "Slated ship date is late February 2021."
Is that a new update or was your post already considering that?
Oh well, I need to be patient regardless.

That must be for new orders where as those of us that pre-ordered months ago will have ours shipped this week. I was asking him on IG when I originally posted, there weren't new details on the site iirc. United Machining's plan was to do one big batch which would have covered pre-orders and future inventory but he felt bad for making pre-orders wait so he split the batch to continue finishing some and then going back to the others once the pre-orders went out.

Hey guys! Any updates?
I started to write this last night, but then I got high .
I contacted UM yesterday to see how the batch of grinders is going and I was told "they're being assembled next week and will probably ship throughout March in order of who bought first." The batch is still split to get early preorders out first as well.

I know @Shit Snacks and myself ordered back in mid-November, so I assume we'll be among the first to have ours shipped out. When did everyone else place their orders?

October 2020. But I already have mine. I asked Dylan if I could get the new bottom, and he charged me a very reasonable amount for the new piece. I think he’s shipping it next week sometime. It might be whenever the next shipping batch goes out.

I get the impression he's working on quite a large batch (even being split) so I don't think you'll be too far behind granted I have no inside knowledge.

I knew there was someone else, I should have just scrolled back a page . Are you in the USA? I'm in Canada so mine will most likely come last. You guys will have to hold me over with some pics :D.

The first batch seemed quick but it may have been in theorls linger and I think it was much smaller. That's awesome he's hooking you up with the newly designed bottom. Just a thought but you could ask if he could make a hollow top so you could have a storage container? May not be easy/cheap for a one off but it was just a thought.

United Machining sent out an email this morning which explains everything more in depth. I definitely appreciate the update!

Hello Everyone,

I've been wanting to provide this update for far too long! I will be starting assembly of the grinders this week. It's been a much longer road than anticipated when I opened up the pre-orders again. I expected to be shipping around the end of January but the little delays kept adding up. The goal with these grinders is for them to become the backbone of my business but they are far from there yet so I'm still having to juggle production of these and other work to pay the bills. After doing the first batches of grinders entirely myself I realized I needed to spread out the production process beyond just myself so I started working with another local small business to handle the bead blasting and magnet assembly allowing me to focus on the machining. This took some time to get on the same page. I was hoping to have them do the magnet installation too but decided to pull that in and do it myself to prevent further delays. I'll be providing another update when shipping has officially begun. I will be shipping in order of who ordered first. I appreciate everyone's patience on receiving these. I'm doing the best I can to get these out and apologize for the wait. -Dylan

Got the following email:

Well this has been far too long in the making. Grinders will start to go out today. I'm shipping in order of received. I'm assembling and shipping in smaller batches versus all at once in an effort to speed things up and get grinders in the hands of those that have been waiting the longest first.

It may take up to 2-3 weeks from today to get every pre-order out that's been ordered before March 2021.

Grinders ordered after March 2021 are waiting on a custom magnet order I had to place that had a pretty long lead time.

Thank you for your patience on this journey!
