You might be interested in the "mod range" tab of the excellent steam-engine calculator. It has presets for most mods and allows you to compute the optimal resistance range where the DC/DC converter is able to output the full rated power. As you intuited pretty well yourself, some combinations are not recommended.

So I have spun the double coil - same as single coil, but two 0.8 ohm claptons side by side.
It measures 0.36 ohms now (I have shortened them a little so they might be less than 0.8 ohms each), and there is no shorting and it fits in the enclosure but man it was a bitch to set up but I'm glad it's done.
Anyway my first test on 200°C (LOW temp for single coil) caused immediate combustion. I expected it to be hotter but not this much. The surface area for the air to collect heat is now effectively doubled, so the herb temp is now much closed to the coil temp than before.
And that means I ahve to find new TCR sweet spot that would be closer to original SS316 curve than my single coil version.

edit: here it is, with a single coil I was vaping at 1.35 - 1.5, for double coil the same vaping range is at about 1.27 - 1.37. And it preheats faster now as it can take more watts.

Just to report how this thing is performing now so you don't have to dig into my technical posts to find that:
Amazingly. This was an awesome beast even before the upgrade, but the DNA upgrade together with the double coil upgrade have:
1) (DNA + double coil) Reduced the heat up time from about 8 seconds to about 3. DNA's TC can boost the wattage during preheat and the double coil has raised this maximum possible wattage.
2) (DNA) TC has significantly stabilized the temperature swings - I can pull super slowly and will not overheat/combust.
I can pull pretty strongly and still get the same vapor. At this point it's almost as powerful as hitting a VapeXhale EVO - but with batteries and a 3 second heat up time.
But still the same milking of the glass with a very fast airflow but not combusting if you slow down.
But if you really use some lung power and pull really hard, then the vapor will thin out because every vape has it's limits how fast can you pull before it can't keep up.
I think the coil can keep up, but the air is jsut flowing too fast to heat up at that point. But it's absolutely not necessary, it hass less drag than EVO.
3) (DNA + double coil) Raised maximum airflow that it can keep up with. The TC allowed to raise the wattage when it detects airflow cooling the coil down or lower it when you slow down or stop. This expanded the airflow range where it performs well significantly.
I can pull both much slower or faster and still get the same vapor. And the double coil has raised the maximum airflow also by increasing the surface area and therefore the air can flow faster and still get heated up.
4) (DNA + double coil) No more glowing red heater. The double coil allowed the heater to work at lower temperatures and the TC prevent it from overheating. So non even the maximum temperature makes the heater glow now (a single coil can glow at the maximum temp and still not combust).

Right now it really feels like an ultimate vape, it's on demand, super fast heat up, adjustable temperature, regulated, very little drag and extremely powerful (on par with the most powerful desktops) even at much faster airflows than most vapes can handle.
Too bad it took quite a bit of tinkering and a very expensive mod (which cost me as much as a brand new Arizer Air 2 by itself, but you could find one much cheaper).
I am not expecting Musa to make these double coils as that was hell to setup for me.
Maybe if they are willing to make premium extra expensive units to compensate for that extra work.
Like the Spinter having the Z version that alos differs by doubling the heater surface area.

Also being a battery-powered vape, it makes me not waste battery power on getting every single bit out of the bowl.
With a big water-piece hit it can extract like 70% in first hit, then like 10 on the second, then 5 on the thind, and so on, approaching the 100 slower and slower.
But each hit takes the same ammount of battery power.
So I just collect the lighter/unstirred ABV and I coulda get a good hit when I loaded a full EVO ELB and hit that with EVO on max temp.
It was not a milky/huge hit, but it was still a big hit and cloud.
Considering the ABV was only 2-4 hits in and I combined many Musa bowls of ABV into one ELB, it checks out.
Of course a large and powerful vape like EVO can still easily overwhelm tiny bowl vapes like E-Nano and Musa 510 when you compare the absolute ammount of herb they can vape at once thanks to the relatively large ELB bowl.
Making it good at caching out the ABV (but it feels insulting to it's luxury all-glass airpath designed for superior taste).
And the EVO also has a huge heater that can keep up with the airflow even if I pull the hardest I can. So even if the EVO has a little more drag than Musa and the Musa being exceptionally good at supporting fast airflow - the EVO still supports even faster functional airflow than Musa (but not by much). You can put a little force into the Musa, make the aiflow really fasta and still get milky vapor, but you can't really pull as hard as you can and still get that vapor like the EVO can (with a heater than is likely more than 100 times as large).

I have started a test of how many hits I can get from a single charge.
I didn't anylyze the batteries beforehand (maybe I should have as the percentage dispaly is a little off, can't charge over 94% and is not depleting in linear manner).
They are 2 new Sony VTC6 (but were on 50% discount so might have been a little older and sitting on the shelves for a while).
The DNA250C I'm using is supposed to ahve 98% battery efficiency.
I have started at 94%, and I'm taking 2 big 20s hits of each bowl, with a stir in between the 2 hits. The 2nd hit doesn't really produce much vapor, you could reload after the first hit, but I'm doing it this way right now and will keep it for consistency.
At first each hit depleted about 1 percent of charge. But it's not linear, now I'm at 8 hits and 12 percent down (1.5% per hit). I predict it might be 2 percent per hit in the end, which would mean 40-50 hits per charge, 20-25 hits (or bowls) per a single battery.
Oh also the first hit usually stops giving vapor at about 15s mark, but I keep heating for the remaining 5s so all the hits are 20s. If I stopped at 15s and realoded there, I might be able to vape like 25-30 bowls from a single battery (or 50-60 from a double battery, although it's just math, a single battery might have problems powering it).
But I'm also considering going from 100 to 0 percent. I have already started at 94, and I think it might stop working at 20. So I think because of this the actual numbers are not going to be THIS high.
But it's not finished yet, still a long way to go.

I was able to get about 35 20s max temp hits (although I think I could have made the max temp slightly hotter) at full power.
Then a couple hits wil slightly slower heat up time (couldn't get to 100W preheat wattage), then the 39th hit was interrupted because of weak battery.
So that's my result - 38 high temp 20 second TC hits.
Not all of them were totally equal though, some I hit hard (50-60W during hitting), some I hit slow (30-50W), some I waited a little longer to preheat (8-16W hovering on the target temp without hitting).

Here's some of the ABV (not all of it, I didn't collect some, also the bowls were of various sizes and I've continues hitting the smaller ones to reach my 2x20s testing standard), so I could absoutely get like twice or even three times as much ABV per one charge if I tried.
I have not tried to make the most ABV, quite the opposite - I wanted the test to be over quickly and I couldn't vape that much in that quickly, so I've been loading smaller bowls and vaping them too long even when they were pretty much depleted.
And the bowls that were too big to be finished (adjustable E-Nano bowl can fit as much weed as you want, but gets deeper and harder to penetrate) in two hits I didn't collect. I also didn't collect the bowl with hash in them (hash does not look good in the photo of abv), and I also simply forgot to collect some.

In conclusion I think I'm able to vape about 15-25 small bowls (< 0.1g), or 8-10 bigger bowls (0.1-0.2g) per ONE Sony VTC6 cell. (stopping as soon as there is no more dense vapor)
But using only one cell would make the preheat a lot slower and could me less efficient.
I can get vapor from just one cell, but 2 cells are where this vape can perform at it's full potential.

I tested the dual Clapton tornado coil for more than a week now and I love it! The shorter heat up time is such an awesome improvement! And it brings some more benefits with it, as you already said!

I use tc mode right now with a 35 Euro box mod and it works great. Can't imagine how awesome it must be with a good TC chip box mod

Btw guys: All future Musa 510 units will have the double Clapton tornado coil!

I think that new coils run hotter than used ones. I have already observed this twice. I made a new SS coil and then noticed it's running very hot or even combusts. But after few hits or just heating it up to a glow, it starts running milder, and I have to adjust the TCR back up a little to get the best performance. I think that along with the color change that the SS udergoes might also be a slight change in resistance or TCR. Then it seem to be stable and doesn't get any more colder.

I made some similar observations. You have to prefire the coil and adjust your tcr (with my boxmod I also have to increase the ohms a tiny bit)

I'm really, really curious about this Musa 510. My experiences with 510 vapes is limited to the Splinter Z and the DT DC2, which is at least a wide range haha! I love how this 510 takes Solo/Air stems because there are tons of options. It being rebuildable is GREAT too. No internal glass is a huge selling point to me as well, cos I dropped my Splinter and well, RIP.

I do have a couple questions, though; I'm going to use the Splinter Z as a point of reference cos the DC2 is cute, but...not on the same level. How's the airflow compared to the Z? About how many heat cycles should the coils be replaced after? With the stock coils in, how does the flavour compare? (This is less important, I just need something durable; it'd just be nice if the flavour was at least close to the same level.) The airflow comes in through the bottom, correct? The dual airflow slots? Are they adjustable at all?

Mostly the same things that sparked my attention on this too. And yes, all of that is true and great. If it gets dropped har enough, the wooden cover might fall off and the coil could get bent but could be easily readjusted and brought back to life in no time. And the glass arizer stems are various and cheap, so it's not that bad if they break.

How's the airflow compared to the Z?
I don't have any other 510 herb vape, so I can't compare, but the airflow feel VERY open (probably feel more open than it really is because of the turbulent sound it makes, but either way the airflow is very free). Mostly it's the herbs packed in the bowl slowing the airflow, like E-Nano.
About how many heat cycles should the coils be replaced after?
They are thick and steel, and not in contact with any wicks or liquids. I think they might last a very long time or even indefinitely.

With the stock coils in, how does the flavour compare?
The flavor is very good, maybe I can taste a little bit of wood when it's very warm (not charring wood). Nothing tainting the flavor, I would say it's almost as tasty as e-nano.

Yes, from the bottom, and no, not adjustable. But the coil can take fast draws especially in TC mode and if it has less than 0.5 ohms.
I think that adjustable airflow might only add unnecessry complexity without any benefit really...

@Penny Wise I experience top notch flavor compared with a open airflow. But this question should be answered by one of my customers :) I haven't used a splinter so far, so I can't compare both units.

I think the coil can last forever. I'm not sure about this but several months of harduse (the single coil, which runes much hotter) had no impact on the resistance yet. And I did very hot burnoffs, too. No user will do this ever to the unit haha.

A wrong material/tcr in TC mode can destroy the coil. Be careful with your first tests and watch the coil at first to make sure it doesn't get to hot with your settings.

@Alan came up with a quite nice and easy to do solution for more even roasting! :nod:

I was able to spend a little time in the shop to assemble a 10 watt halogen bulb HI recently. I added a ss foil disc to diffuse the light which also works to force all the hot air to the perimeter of the roasting tube. I tried it with the iHeat to improve the evenness of the roast. Here is how it looks.

The 3/8" ss foil disc is held in place with a 3/4" flat disc screen forced into the basket screen. The combination of the small mass of the foil and the friction of the screens, prevents the disc from moving. When the roasting tube is inserted, there is about a 1mm thick ring/halo of hot air entering the roasting bowl. It works well at keeping the roast even. No need for stirring. It is possible to add the ss foil disc to old units too.

Using this idea with great success in my own Misty Log Vapes now :)

Since the last time I posted here I've tried few things. First I've tried a twisted double coil trying to reduce number of coil circles (which reduce the risk of shorting and make visual inspection easier):

I would say it didn't work very well, took too long to heat up and cool down, and the performance was just not up there with the original double coil.

Then I've spun the same double coil as before, but with a fused SS316 clapton (two wires inside the wrapping wire).
It looks mostly the same, the wire is slightly flatter on close look (the twisted one on the pic is also fused).
It has slightly reduced resitance, so it can be slightly faster in TC.
Performs about the same as the original double coil. Which is good. I think I'll stay with this one.

Then I've tried that small aluminium disc trick in the center between the screens to help mix up the colder and hotter air to reduce hotspots.
Not sure how well it works, still solving some hotspots, but I think it did help some.

And today I've broke the last black o-ring (it's always the top one that breaks, the bottom one is still original and looking new).
Not I'm out of spare ones, so I can't take it out with me (as it can't hold togehter in a pocket, but still usable as a desktop). But the country is in quarantine anyway...

@MUSA Vaporizer I just got my unit today but when I went to look at the coil I touched the coil with the wooden piece and now the coil is crooked, all on one side. Can you post a picture of the coil so I can place it like it's supposed to be? I smashed it before I could see what it looked like.

Right after I finished to write this message I dropped the metal piece on the floor, coil first of course, just to make sure the thing was properly messed up. :ugh::doh: I haven't even started to vape yet... I will have to watch myself tonight or it might not be the only thing I break. (No the coil is no broken, just squashed together, I hope everything will be fine after I replace it properly.

Some infos, to do it without a picture:

1. Make sure that the coil is centerd.
2. Make sure that the coil isnt touching itself. (it also doesnt touch anything inside the vape)
You dont have much space for failures here.

Both can be verified if you fire the vape and have a look from the top of the vape through the mesh.
(A picture of the coil can be also found in the pdf manual. Did i send it to you?)

Still loving the Musa 510, not using it very often because I'm home all the time, and my E-Nano is hot and ready next to me almost 24/7.
But every time I occasinally take a hit from Musa, it's just keep being impressive. Especially through water, where it's power can really shine wihtout burning my throat.
A water filtered hit from a DNA temp controleld Musa is somewhere between a powerful E-Nano hit and a powerful EVO hit in both smoothness and strength. A the Musa is the only one that can be completely cold 5 secods before performing that.
Seing that this still has only 7 pages in here makes this vape extremely underappreciated imo.
I think a Musa 510 on DNA mod even could be one of the best portable vapes out there right now.
I am tempted to shoot a vid showing what a monster hit this can do, maybe someday...
Also I think this stem would go extremely well with this:
It has so much power that even a regular long E-Nano or Arizer stem can get easily overwhelmed.

Im very interested in this 510 vape. I have never used 510, rebuilt coils, and setup firmware or bought a box mod. Is this going to be a lot of work for me. I see it uses clapton double coil now is that going to need replaced after so many uses? Just seems like a lot of stuff going on. Im assuming this isnt plug n play?
