What glass are you using? I ask as your draw speed maybe not be as slow as you think due to the amount of water, size of glass etc.

    Baby, you're a lost cause...

I'm using the https://www.newvape.com/12-5-stereo-matrix-rig Stereo Matrix from NV but with no water. Do you think I'm inhaling too quickly and that is causing the dark ring?

Lower temps or a slower draw should make it more even. Even just a little slower draw at the temps you’re using would probably work, but too slow may overcook it.

I don’t think it’d combust at those temps unless you went really slow*, but slowing down at higher temps is more likely to combust, so be careful as you experiment; watch for overcooking and either lower temps or speed up your draw to correct.

    Good luck, Keith! ;)

*I’ve gone as high as 777 with the ShowerHead and a medium-fast ramped draw without combusting. Right now I mostly use the VRod around 600 with a slow draw and sometimes capped with good results, but it’s different from higher temps and a faster draw.

@notlow first thing I thought was perhaps your draw rate might be too fast, tbh.

My very first VRod bowl I saw the ring and I just slightly slowed my roll and I haven’t seen it since. Now I’m thinking about it, I’ve been all around in the 600-640 zone, capped and not, running dry or water path and I haven’t seen the ring since that first draw. And I haven’t given it any thought or consciously modified my breath or draw-rate since then.

I settled into the series of motions and it all just seemed very natural and intuitive, like they’re instantly second nature. Now being able to get massive hits from tiny amounts and with only the very occasional cough is a dream come true. I honestly feel like my body, certainly my pulmonary system, is grateful to my brain for finally buying the VRod. It feels like I made a healthy choice! Lol, the FP does a body good!

If you dont want to change anything about your set up, I'd simply slow down a little. My own experience of getting the dark ring was when I purposefully started playing with faster draw speeds at temps higher than I usually use.

The beauty of the FP means you have other ways to combat the 'issue' should you choose too... Add a little water and the drag should cause a slower air speed with out you changing your inhale (on the other hand, a bit too much water and the amount of inhale it takes to get things bubbling means air speed goes up), or a incremental temp changes (five/ten degrees at a time) until you hit that sweet clouds and even browning spot (some prefer higher temps than you're on, some prefer lower).

Many options. Personally, I'd play with going incrementally lower in temp to get whatever flavour increases that might occur as a by product.

    I am very high.

EDIT: Organic Sugar Black Rose rosin dabs at 595f :D

Got my VROD bundle and have it setup, getting ready to try it out. The "out" light blinks slowly after it reaches temp, but that seems normal, correct?

And does anyone have directions for the "auto-calibration" and can explain what exactly it does and if/when I even need to do it?

I received these SiC terp pearls tonight and after an ISO soak followed by a distilled water soak. I am very pleased to say, IMO, they are easily worth the 20 bucks!
There is definitely an improvement in taste, nothing to drastic but a noticeable improvement over my rubies.
They seem to clean a bit better than my ruby terp pearls too. My rubies always seemed to have a film or haze on them but these “SiC pearls” clean up like new with a few Q-tips of distilled water.
Thank for the heads up @wildything .
    :peace:

I’m not familiar with the Auber controller (the one with the dial), but on the other I’ve never bothered with calibration and I’ve never seen a need to. I don’t remember a blinking light though...

Glad to hear it! I’ve got a few of the quartz ones, but I’m having trouble getting them clean...they’re so small that manipulating them to clean them is hard, and I haven’t figured out anything that just cleans them without a lot of difficult (due to the small size) work on my part. Maybe it’s just that I let them cook on the VRod too long before trying to clean them, but while I got the SiC dish clean pretty easily, the quartz balls have been covered in old concentrates and sitting in a bag of iso for...too long. :disgust:

Anyone have tips for getting them clean now, and/or cleaning them in the future?

Also, one of them fell on a tile floor while I was trying to clean it. Anyone concerned it may have cracked or chipped and think there’s a problem with using it, or if it appears to be in one piece (without a magnifying glass or anything) would you worry about it?

I may just pick up some (Chopper!) SiC balls soon, but I’d still like to figure out how to deal with these.

    SiC Balls!

Considering how ridiculously easy it is to clean the SiC dish, I think SiC pearls are a very, very good idea.

Blinking 'out' light is normal. Auto calibration instructions are on the NV site or in this thread somewhere (search!). Calibration isnt necessary tho.

I own the Milaana and also the Splinter Z (Heater is the same as Milaana, but bigger!) and can easily say the FlowerPot delivers more than the Milaana. The discrepancy between the Z and the FlowerPot is smaller, but still measurable. The FlowerPot excels at quick extraction and for me it is the closest thing to the effects produced when smoking Cannibis. StickyBrick products are on my list, just have not bit the bullet yet!

Interesting. I had a girlfriend who had to chain sneeze immediately when someone broke out some weed to roll a joint in a room or so. Her nose began to flow and red eyes. She loved to smoke though and quickly recovered when she did. Hash had no bad effect on her. I just did a few experiments with vaporizing back then, so I cannot tell if vaporizing would have affected her differently.

edit (sorry read it too late):

Been so content with this thing havnt even been trolling fc for the new one, but noticed something today that never seemed odd but I assume isn’t the most common practise. I use the spike to store the heater, dish side up with the cap on. It sits nicely through the airhole and never had a problem at all.
I Was using the stand but it was locking up (running around 690 I think my fault storing it on a lean or something and not that common but a full cooldown required) , so I stored it in one of the smaller holes how it’s made to fit but it would make the whole plate hot, so I’d put it dish side down with the spike through the hole.... BUTTTTT I decided I like to keep the cap on since I ran outta dabs(changing by Monday ).
Just love how you can do whatever you like with this beast. Gonna get better 18mm glass my dhgate bubbler draws air with a sealed bowl, don’t think I could ask for anymore than it’s doing, but I got both sizes and she deserves another playmate. Wasn’t long a new carb cap after I got mine so there is probably more I “need” to add, much reading to do!

If you order the newer titanium post to rest the heater on I suspect your sticky issue will go away.

I think you can get hits about as good with a SBL Maxx, but it requires learning the technique and paying attention to your draw and the vapor temperature and your hand position and the lighter flame length if you want to get close the VRod experience. And you have to pay attention! With the VRod, it's huge satisfying hits every time, with no effort and no thought.

@Tommy10 glad to see you’re alive, mate! If your post doesn’t say “HOT TI”, you def should get one. :peace:

So the other day I’m hanging with the VRod, drawing with the telly on in the background when I noticed the film Airplane! was coming on one of the film channels in FIVE minutes! Remembering dear @Chingas and @emmdeemo and recognising the universe was giving me a gift, I immediately switched over. Putting down my pencil and pad, I pulled the VRod close and laughed my ass off. Like I haven’t in a long long time.

It’s been at least 20 years since I’ve seen that movie. Thank you once again FC for enriching my life!

Thank you NV & FP for helping me forget about pain and enjoy life!

I dont think alot of desktops can beat maxx tbh, the key to maxx is coarse grind, 0.15-0.25 loads, slow draws, if u draw too hard u need to stir, so airflow can flow thru and flame not too close to intake, but subsequent hits can come closer, just risk charring too fast, i get hits no other vapes i bought so far can replicate
