Don't know I hadn't heard about this earlier! It's called Fonline (fallout online), and is a MMORPG based on a combination of the Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 worlds, with a massive player base, completely reworked engine, higher resolution graphics and an alternate storyline. This is a serious labor of love, the type of Mod I cream myself at seeing and wish there were more of.
If you thought Fallout 3 was a cancerous, pus-filled sore on the carcass of the Fallout legacy, this should leave a far better taste in your mouth.
Install over a legal (or bit torrented, didn't hear it from me) copy of Fallout 2 and go for it! There were over 120 people logged on for my first 2 hour session!
