My opinion: anyone willing to ask that question with a straight face should keep smoking the melting plastic top. It can only help them, IMHO.

Same here. The top cap gets hot above and around the chamber but I haven't seen the slightest hint of cracking or melting.

Thanks for the update. Did the new top caps get very hot? I understand they didn't melt or crack. But I'm also interested to know how hot they're getting during normal usage. The original top cap does get hotter than ideal during normal usage.

30 minutes of usage of the Alternate at temps of 375-428 F, in 1-3 minute sessions. I don't see the slightest hint of melting or cracking plastic. Makes me wonder what some you guys are doing to make this thing melt and crack. :shrug:

Wow, thanks for the info. It sounds like anyone receiving a new Alternate will be wise to not use it until a replacement top is sent. If it's melting after only 3 sessions, < 1 minute at <= 380 F, it's a very dangerous MP to play with. I doubt it will kill anyone but it's not worth the risk...
