I've got an xmax v2 pro which is a nice cheap bit of kit, but as with all hobbies I fancy something a bit nicer after a few months use. I bought some glass as a distraction but thats not helped much.

I only really vape when I get home from work (11pm) at the weekend and my wife and kids are in bed. I've wanted an Extreme Q for a while but unsure if its worth the hassle of boxing it away and setting it up before every use? I also hear they benefit from being turned on for a long while to warm up before use, not ideal when you're just getting started late at night.

My other thought was a Airizer solo, this was what I really had my eye on when I bought the xmax.

I can't decide between the two, so are there any other plugin options around £150 to use through my glass? Might as well get all the options and confuse myself fully :lol:

Herbalaire, easy to fit to bong and you can pack the bag gear away and it's just a single reasonably small for a plug in hand held device heats up reasonably quick too.

Definitely go for the Solo over the Q. It is very easy to use, built like a tank, and provides thicker, fuller vape than the Extreme Q IMO. It is portable and can last about 90 minutes on a full charge.

The Solo is my daily driver and the Xmax is my backup.

I would recommend you get the Solo. The Solo is better than the Xmax in areas like battery life, ease of use/cleaning..... and the reclaim that accumulates in the glass stems can be used for edibles, vaping outright and can even be used to make e-cig juice.

Well thats interesting, I was expecting to see more of a push for the extreme q. I've read countless good things about the ddave mod kit and using the fan to warm it up quicker.... I can see me buying both at this rate, just seems to be which one first.

How does the draw restriction of the solo compare to the xmax?

For the sake of the answer let's assume both units are clean....The Xmax draws easier than the Solo but I find that I have to moderate/lessen the Xmax draw to get to the sweet spot. The Xmax also clogs up faster for me so Xmax draw restriction can get harder than the Solo in that case. If I draw on a clean Xmax without forcing myself to draw slower I can sometimes overwork the cooling and I don't get the best vapor. The Solo is harder to draw on. After a few weeks/months the original stems aren't so tight in the oven and the draw loosens up but the Solo is still a little more restricted. Some of the after market Solo stems are a tiny bit bigger and the resistance goes back to what it was like originally.

IMO the Solo draw restriction is a double edged sword. More restriction = less cooling, more heat in the bowl = stronger vape/clouds. Most folks twist/lean/move around the stems to decrease draw restriction when it's needed.

Neither unit will combust no matter how slow the draw or how high the heat setting.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that even though the Solo has more draw restriction it isn't a problem for me and that includes when I first got it. I have read that some others thought it was too hard on the draw but I never felt that way.

I think you need a log vape my friend. I dont own one currently but they seem to fit your criteria. Super efficient .. pares with glass nicely and aesthetically pleasing (inconspicuous ) most people leave them on 24/7 as they draw little current... check out e nano and underdog. . Both in usa unfortunately but i think they'd suit your situation well.

Thank you for taking the time to post such a detailed response.

E2a: the log vapes look excellent, that enano also fits the price range, until I get a us->uk power converter and then any import tax that may be included. Then it starts to jump up a bit

E2a2: looking on vapefiend to see if they have log vapes and my eyes are drawn to the lsv... yet another one to look in to after work!

@Chrig Ye lsv is almost like a mega log! Its just so ugly compared to a log vape though! By the sounds of it if u only vape when kids/wifey are tucked up then might as well go plug in. It all depends on what you are really looking for in a vape?

You said mainly want to use with a glass bong? If so I think lsv is a really solid choice then. If you can be bothered id look into a log but lsv is relatively cheap in uk and readily available.. unlike a lot of other vapes. If you get one check out the ddave mods (search here on fc) it is a replacement heatercover designed for maximum efficiency.

However if you just want the ultimate powerhouse vape for using with glass then check out vapexhale cloud evo itll run you £250+ at vapefiend.com though!

My normal routine is taking the dog for a walk or walking to the shop with my vape pen once the kids go to bed and getting started on low temperature.

Then once Mrs chrig goes to bed and won't complain about the smell I crack on with mid and high temperatures through my d020d rig and an open window.

The Solo might suit you, though the draw is a little restricted. Logs are fantastic with the bubbler you have and are not restricted. Plus, logs are very small and quite attractive.

@Chrig I own a log, EQ & Air so feel I can add to your confusion ;).

Based on what you are saying you walk the dog + vape & then when the mice are tucked up in bed dad hits the bong? If so I think a quality portable of the Solo/Air would be a wise choice. They both pair well with water & are popular/reliable in the bargain with a lot of accessories you can get.

A log would be great to use but they are better when they have had a good 20 minutes to get warmed up & the EQ needs at least 10-20 minutes as well if you want to get the most enjoyment out of a strong desktop the longer they can warm up the better & I mean hours if you can.

My daily is my log as it is perfect for my needs but if I want a quickie I will break out the Air & if I want to ruin my motor skills I will break out the EQ & really crank the temps.

All pair well with water but a EQ has a lot of fucking around with glass parts, whips etc whereas the Air/Solo only needs a stem & you can get unbreakable Ed's stem's that also fit water tools. Get a good portable I suggest & if wife/kids/money/space permit in the future invest in a desktop but a strong portable will give you options.

I would suggest the Solo. You get more bang for the buck pretty inexpensive and heat up time is 2 min. You can use it as a portable or a desktop. It's very small about the size of a can of Red Bull but don't let the small size fool you. It will get you where you need to be with little product.

It fits easily to glass water tools for those late night sessions while the kiddos are tucked in bed.

You can buy one for around $150. Get a hold of Randy at Puffitup.

I too suggest The Solo...

This device was engineered to produce profound effects. Easy way to get your feet wet with vapor.. She is perfect for the rookie and long term Vaporists alike.

Especially after dialing in your draw technique...
The draw restriction is by design, if you pull too hard you are robbing power from the heater...

As mentioned by @His_Highness .. Tilt/and rock the stem to obtain best results.

I've had mine since October of last year, and I loved it from day 1 ..
Didn't even try the tilt tech til just recently...

Arizer designed a damn near perfect vaporizer here.

And.. If you are like me, I like temp stepping, start at a low temp, for astounding Flavor... Then I also enjoy rich, flavors at the higher end of the Spectrum.

Easy to use and clean, all glass Vapor Path, desktop performance from a Portable Device.

Im sold on the solo as a replacement for my xmax, but I think im going to buy a torch vape next before I get a solo. Partly because its going to be cheaper (so i could get it straight away) and also because it'll be very different to what I'm using at the moment. Sometimes I find myself packing a bong or pipe bowl or even a single skin joint just for a change.

I agree...

A Vapor Genie can be had for 55$ish... VapCap 30$

A Lotus is definitely in my future.

I think the VG might be best in your specific circumstances, closet to the "Ritual" of Combustion through a pipe.

Plus I believe the VG may be the best backup Vape in regards to a possible Zombieland like Apocalypse.

I'm UK mate and own an iOlite, EQ, a wychwood log,an LSV,an Arizer Air and just got an Ecapple IV-1.
Very similar to you in that all my vaping is done after my lad's bedtime and mostly through glass.
LSV all the way - looks ugly but it's a beast with glass.
I use a cheap m2m but am going to get a DDave kit

Funny, I was honestly just considering that when I looked at all my battery and electricity operated vaporization equipment "crap, if I lived in the walking dead, I would have to go back to joints and bongs!"

Just an aside for future reference. I have an underdog and an e-nano and love the underdog- I especially like the option of using it with essential oil to scent the air. However, I just got an EQ with Dave's mod and it's more powerful than either log. I also don't mess around with it- I always use the same setup and it's not more difficult than the logs.
I would have recommended the solo with a different mouthpiece that resolves the draw restriction.
Finally, I have learned the hard way- and I think I'm the only one at FC- to stay away from butane vaporizers. I've tried most except the Lotus. If you just want to check them out, the vapcap is the least expensive option and works as well as the others for most people.

Half price factory defects from vapman directly might still be a thing, got some not long ago. Own a solo vapman VG and vapcap. I still think the solo is the most logical choice if you want guaranteed enjoyment. Walking the dog, and through the bong I can't see how you wouldn't enjoy a solo however I much prefer the vapman and if you want to try something different it's an absolute beauty!
Solo is almost so consistently good it's boring, if that makes sense. Fill stem insert and draw yummy vapor, which is great but the vapman does have a fun ritual and is more athletically pleasing in my eyes. Also pairs easily with 14m female joints.
