Krizzle

Hi Very high
My Crafty has just hit 150hrs. 1st one no issues to date. Used heavily every day. It does get hot towards the end of a 15-20min session sure but not really, really hot.

I got a Pax2 the other day and sad to say I will be returning it tomorrow and getting a Mighty instead. The pax compared to crafty is no contest in the flavor, vapor production, cleaning and herb conservation departments. The only things I liked about the Pax was the size of the device and the battery life. Everything else from the mouthpiece down to the restricted draw to the dodgy screens, all sucked!! IMO of course :haw:

How can I tell which version mine is?

From the phone app. Select the Device tab and you'll see the Firmware version displayed

Also, thanks for the reply. My Air still works great but the draw resistance is my only real issue. I find my glass stem with the black tip/mouthpiece works better than the others, even my Eds TnT Bog Wood stem.

I agree, the Crafty has the least draw resistance of any portable vape I've ever used.
Glass stem with black tip is my favourite too. Only ever tried the 2 stock ones though. Good to know.

I have described my beloved Crafty as having little or zero draw restriction in earlier posts in this thread.

Since owning a Daisy I would like to change that opinion.

Whilst the Crafty has considerably less draw restriction than a stock solo for examble, I would say my Daisy is 3 or 4 times less restrictive that my Crafty.

Does that mean the Daisy has little or no draw restriction?

All I can say for sure is when I use my Crafty after a Daisy session, there is noticeable draw restriction.

Yeah there definitely is a bit of draw restriction on both the mighty and the crafty but it's pretty negligible andstill a big step up from the solo. The draw restriction is also more noticeable with tighter packs.

This looks exciting. If these were designed with the same characteristically-german design philosophy as the Plenty, it should be very interesting. The Plenty is 100% about function and performance, not looks, and its a beast.

I'm hypothetically torn on which I'd want. If the difference was really just about temperature adjustment, I'd take the Crafty especially if I could dial in my go-to temps via an app. That said, this is S&B we are talking about and I suspect the Mighty is a more powerful vape with better performance. And knowing S&B I'd expect the performance to blow away every other battery-powered vape.

I'm gonna wait for details/reviews. I also suspect price will drop when offered directly to the US market (i.e. - $300 instead of 300 Euro).

I am not sure I understand what you are waiting for... All of these devices are available directly or at retail.
We know that the MIGHTY is more powerful than the crafty... more battery too. You can dial in the exact temp the crafty operates at via the app. You can also set the "boost" temp. it is a flexible unit.
THERE are lots of reviews online for the entire S and B range.
Not sure what you are waiting for.
Go go get one!!

That post is a year old bud and from the first page  this explains why they were waiting

Glad my posts still resonate even when they are old and outdated!

I'm using the Mighty as my DD right now, but also spent a good deal of time with the Crafty over the summer. Agree Mighty is a little more powerful than the Crafty in practice. One year later S&B has definitely delivered on expectations IMO

Hi frens, my crafty finally went dead. How necessary is it to clean the unit before sending back for service?

Trying to save myself the trouble if they'll just be sending me a new unit.

It is very important to have the unit clean if you were using marijuana in it. Marijuana is illegal in many states and if it is passing through any states where it is illegal and can potentially be checked it is not worth the risk and can get you in big trouble. Use some pipe cleaners , alcohol and even a magic eraser to clean the oven and cooling unit. Just my advice some may think differently .

You might be able to upgrade to a Mighty for a reasonable price.

I thought about that, but the size /form factor of the crafty is perfect for my use.

I'm gonna send my 2nd one back and hope the 3rd one is the charm. I was at serial #19xxx, up from #2xxx , wonder what I'll get this time.

Thank you for the advice! Anyone know what the typical wait time is from the time you send the unit in?

Arizer Air Aficionado
My original 2.05 crafty died at 111 hours but I knew it was on the way out so I bought an Arizer Air as backup. Pretty much as soon as it arrived my Crafty died so I started to use the Air while waiting for a replacement Crafty.

I noticed several advantages/disadvantages over the Crafty:

- Battery life on the Air is noticeably better. Even though my sessions were longer on the air I found myself needing to charge it much less. The user replaceable battery is also a major bonus.

- The glass stem design of the air makes cleaning/maintenance virtually non existent. You can keep vaping forever it seems without doing anything but if the residue build up inside the stem bugs you just chuck it in some alcohol for a few minutes, rinse it off and it's like new.
Cleaning the Crafty certainly is not bad. I probably only do it every 30 hours or so, but Air still wins.

-The bowl size of the Air is considerably smaller. I found myself filling it with 0.1-0.15 grams. This however was not a major issue for me as I often only do half bowls in the Crafty anyway. You can of course purchase multiple stems for the Air and have a bunch packed so you can swap with a new one on the go.

-Now when it comes to vapor. We all know the Crafty is great here. As for the Air, I could definitely get very dense clouds by upping the temperature but generally I would only work my way up the lower 3 temperatures which would still provide very nice clouds with quality herb. I also feel I can taste the flavour when using the Air a bit stronger, especially in the first few hits but then comes my least favourite part of the Air. Once things start to heat up after a few hits, the air coming through into your mouth starts to get rather hot and harsh. I find once this happens I can only take short hits/sips otherwise it's just too hot & dry on the mouth/throat. I've actually woke up the next day a few times after hitting it hard the night before and ignoring the mouth dryness and it feels like the top of my mouth is slightly burnt or my throat is sore.

However despite this I learnt techniques to manage this like having a sip of a drink between hits or changing to sipping once it started to heat up. I'm sure this could also be solved by using longer stems or attaching to a bubbler etc. I mainly use the small stem with the black plastic tip included with the Air, I like the portability as I usually vape on the go.
I also found myself using less herb when using the Air than I did with the Crafty.

Overall was really liking the Air and my plan was to keep using it as my main vape and keep the Crafty random uses, but then my new replacement v2.08 Crafty arrived in the mail.....

Form the first sesh I was hooked on it again! The vapor is just so smooth and more notably, Cool compared to the Air. I mean don't get me wrong, the Air still provides very good vapor and I still use it a lot when my Crafty goes flat. However of the 7 portable vapes of tried, Crafty is the God of smooth hits.
I'd still certainly recommend the Air as a backup vape. I still use mine nearly every day and it's still going as strong as the day I bought it. It's considerably cheaper than the Crafty here in Aus too & with the replaceable battery and stem design I still really like it.

Get yourself one of the longer solo stems if you are having a problem with heat.

Hi Very high
Hey all, sad to say I may be having the first issue with my beloved Crafty. Its charging port has become really finicky and now barely charges unless I fiddle around with the lead and get it positioned just right:mad:

Anyone know how to fix or if this is covered under Warranty at all?

Cheers

@Krizzle Are you sure its the port and not the actual cord? IME the metal piece from the cord can bend and be fickle not the actual port. If it is the port then Id reach out to S & B. This would be a first report of port issues that Ive seen on this thread so Im hoping its the cord which would be an easy fix from one you may already have.

You don't return the cooling units. You keep them and they send you a new one with every warranty return.

I have never touched the oven in my heating units and have returned multiple units.

I had cord trouble and couldn't tell whether it was cord or usb female in unit. I sent crafty back, since it would seem to charge only intermittantly. SB said it was battery and I paid for new battery. They actally sent a new unit. (I've not yet heard of anyone actually getting a repair, just new as replacement.) When I got the new one, I tried charging with previous cord and the charge light went on/off when wiggled! Go figure!

KRIZZLE -- Try any other usb charge cord, like from phone, etc, before you give in and send back.

I hope they cover you out on this. It's exactly the kind of thing their c/service needs to do better on, and I do hope Mr Storz or Mr. Bickel are following this thread!

My stoner brain didnt think of that! Awesome and thank you it was just the dodgy USB wire. Tried a different one and works perfectly :brow: Love the avatar by the way:clap:

Edit: Thank you @vapviking also !!

Double Edit: Not Crafty related but I posted previously I was returning my Pax2. I didnt in the end, figured a way to work the damn thing. So got the Crafty and Pax2 rocking these days!

Good choice. I love my crafty but I will always have a backup just in case a trip to the land of oak is necessary.

Hey guys I have been following this thread for a while as I am interested on buying a Crafty, but I have a major concern over the amount of users claiming several faulty units in a short period of time. So in my case living outside of US and having to pay custom taxes on it's way back it is impossible for me to be swapping units if mine fails. But as I have seen here users like @Vambo1980 had successfully managed to tear his Crafty apart to change his battery and fix the red/orange lights of death. I am familiar to electronics and even studied on the field for a couple of years. I am wondering if these red/orange lights of death that users normally describe here are due to a faulty battery or is it due to a faulty motherboard, because as @Vambo1980 described on his post, his issues were fairly easy to fix, so I would like to know if any user actually knows when this red/orange light blinks what sort of problem it is related to or if it can be related to several other issues. Thank you very much, really appreciate if anyone can help me out gathering some information about these issues. Cheers

Hi,
My Crafty is still running fine I'm up to 348hrs on it, it is my main vape and is used every day without fail usually about 8-15+ bowls some times more. I have a desktop but that's not been out since November last year. The Crafty get's put straight on charge after every vape usually, it is always left connected, possibly not good for the battery but its ready and always performs better on a full battery, plus it's an easy swap and I have lots.

I opened it up and swapped out the battery again just today, which is why I revisited the forum this evening. There was nothing wrong with the old one apart from the slowing of heat up times, I have about 9 of these 25R battery left and wanted the quick heat up times again.

I'm presuming the orange and red light flashes is just a fault signal for any one of possible sensed faults. In my case the fault was the internal thermal fuse, but I'm assuming the logic of the board will flag the red/orange flash with other faults like over discharged battery for example. I maybe wrong though and the flashing r/y lights are solely associated with an open heater circuit, which could be thermal fuse like me or heater element failure.

The key thing I have done to keep my crafty going is to solder the heater cables directly to the board and remove the thermal fuse, I have been so happy with the performance without the fuse I never reinstalled a new one. The poor design of the thermal fuse leg in the main board by push fit is just a perfect recipe for inefficiency and overheating.

If your handy with a soldering iron and confident then if your crafty fails you have the option like me to get stuck in! at least you'll have the updated casing and firmware... that is something ill never have :-(

These devices are great, if you can make it reliable like I have they soon become your best friend.

Great narrative. Wish I had a bit of that kinda knowledge.
I sent 3 Crafty'S back, and third time I was offered and took a Mighty for $60 USD. I'm traveling now but new Mighty is waiting for me at home.
Hey! I'll bet a video lesson re battery swap and heat fuse would help many people over the next couple of years. I assume Mighty uses same batteries, but does it have the same funky heat fuse setup?
As these two come off of 2yr. warranty, this could be income opportunity for an enterprising individual.

Double Edit: Not Crafty related but I posted previously I was returning my Pax2. I didnt in the end, figured a way to work the damn thing. So got the Crafty and Pax2 rocking these days!

My combo will be Mighty and Pax2. Next hurdle; Try using both less for a while.

First two days of my trip were a bit rough, first time in 45 years I thought I was in withdrawal. Mild nausea and headache. Tylenol helped headache but added to nausea.
Not looking for sympathy, since I do realize that many here are dealing with serious issues. Mine are of my own doing...
