Cannabis and surgery??

Hi,
I'm scheduled to have a small cancerous growth on my face removed in a few days. Thankfully not melanoma but a slow growing cancer. They'll slice and send to lab and determine if they got it all.
If not, slice some more. Repeat as necessary. This may mess up my career as a "face model" ;)

They asked me to stop taking Ibuprofen as it makes for slower blood clotting. I do not dare ask them about cannabis !!! Anybody know if it slows blood clotting?
Is it ok to continue light use (I'm a lightweight) until the procedure?

Another bummer when living in a non-legal state, you cannot ask your health provider !!!

thanks

Sorry to hear about the surgery. I've read the opposite, that it aids in clotting by slowing down the circulation.

Don't have any sources I can readily quote as I read this while researching for something else.

Have read of some FCers having surgery who would be more qualified than I to report first hand.

Good luck with your surgery!

So sorry you need surgery, possibly multiple. :(

I had 3 major surgeries last year, and I used cannabis right up to the morning of every surgery. I suffered no ill effects whatsoever. Everyone is different, but I don't foresee you having a problem.

I am so thankful I went to the dermatologist!! I rarely go to the Dr but at a recent lunch with an old friend, he thought a growth on top of my head looked suspicious---he had one just like it that was cancerous.
So, that one was harmless but the one on my cheek was not harmless. They will keep doing tiny slices until the lab shows all the cancer is removed.

Any FC folks with a suspicious growth---odd color, irregular shape, changing size or color---please see a dermatologist

I've had 4 surgeries over the last 10 years and I always continued my cannabis right up to the surgery and continued right afterwards.

Why don't you "dare" ask the doctor about cannabis? I have no problem when a doctor asks questions, in telling all. They are doctors, not prosecutors!

I live in a non-legal state as well. When I saw a neurologist about my migraines, he asked if anything helps to relieve them. I told him "Smoking a joint." He laughed & said "I cannot as a medical professional recommend doing something that is technically against the law, but as I have told others before, if you find something that helps... by all means use it."

I would never dare to tell them I vape. I'd be afraid it goes into my med records and thereafter, every med provider would see it.
That possibility scares me , one of the "joys" of being in a non-legal state.

The phone call dealing with what to do before procedure, asked about any drug use, vitamin use, etc.
It was from a nurse I've never met. Likewise, never met this doctor.

Don't like the idea of anyone knowing as consequences too big.

Too late to edit.....so double post
Had surgery today and did go to it lightly vaped and that was ok as surgery and espec needles make me nervous.
Surgeon did multiple slices with tissue sent to lab each time until clean/all gone.
I'd vape again for future medical procedures unless it interfered

Glad to hear your surgery went ok. :)

Recovering today with some pain. No Advil allowed for a couple days so probably do a wake and vape soon.
It's a shock when Dr says you have the C word (cancer) but so thankful I went to the dermatologist and lab work shows they got it all.
It was so weird when they stitched the "crater" back together as they had to pull skin in and on that side of my face the skin actually felt very tight. Felt like a sideways facelift :)

Thankful I went to get it checked as I rarely see a Dr. and very thankful this was a slower growing type of cancer, not melanoma !!!

FC gang----if you have any odd shaped or odd colored or painful growths, please get them checked out.

@MinnBobber just found thread Glad that you're surgery went well...
My wife just had two pieces of Cancer cut out last week. All went well for her as well.
CANCER FREE!!! WoooHoooo!!

Most know I just went through open heart surgery I vaped before & directly after and I wouldn't have changed a thing.
My Dr's Surgeon's &Anesthesiologist were aware.
and all told me if it relaxed me to continue my use.
For major procedures I would definitely make the doctor is aware...

Just thought I would share. really glad everything went well my friend.
Day or two of pain you're good.
When you feel pain or missery hit the vape Dr's orders.:lmao:

Well I can't disobey Dr's orders (from Melting Pot) to vape---soon.
It is a shame that I couldn't just be open about it with the Dr.
Hopefully the day will come when I can comfortably share that info
and maybe even partake in nature's greatest medicine at the hospital !!!

Having talked with doctors about it, they would just rather have you be honest with them about what you put in your body. They don't care what you do as long as you're honest, and will tell you if it's a problem. To keep quiet about something could actually be harmful.

I first admitted to a doctor that I used cannabis when I was on powerful medication that changes your liver function. I was advised to not even touch alcohol, or there could be damage that causes the change to be permanent... and that would mean no alcohol. Ever. "What about weed?" was my only question. No problems there, so the rest of that summer was kinda mellow.

So glad to hear your moh's surgery went well!!! I've had non melanoma growths taken off before-redhead -burns never tans lol. I'm very glad you went to see the Derm too!!! My Brother in Law died last year from melanoma-it was NOT pretty. Small spot on head -2 months from diagnosis to death.
It's fairly simple to go see a Derm once a year for a complete body check, especially all you people that like the sun! Just do it !!!!
