Shred/ grind bud VS scissors cut your load??

HI,

when I only had one strain I always used my SCS 3 piece and stored the excess in a tiny jar for the next use(s). A small nug was good for many loads and that technique worked great.

Now that I have the luxury of multiple strains, I've been using a scissors and cutting tiny tiny little pieces off a nugget, onto a folded paper, and then fill my vape chamber. No leftover mj pieces to store. I don't really want multiple little jars, each filled with a different strain.

Even if I used the smallest nug for the SCS shredder, there would be major leftovers to deal with.

What do you folks that have multiple strains do? Do you shred and then do what with leftovers ?

I keep the strains in individual JyARZ containers with a Boveda 62% pack in each.

Could I grind a strain (small part of a nug) and but leftovers back, folded up in aluminum foil or ??

My SCS grinder is getting lonely :)

I like to just grind what I need. I kinda can eyeball what I am needing for the moment usually. I dont like to re-store ground nugs. Usually I'll just smoke it haha..

Recently I have been pulling the nugs apart calyx by calyx, bypassing the grinder and I have really been enjoying the flavor, and longer lasting bowls.

I us 35mm film canisters and the plastic containers that glucose test strips come in. Both are free from friends, almost air tight and easy to store.

IMHO the proper grind depends on the vape. Some vapes, like the mighty can do it all, but my volcano likes a grind.

I store small amounts in tiny glass spice jars. I bought them off amazon at a fraction of the price of those cool herb jars, that seem to be popular now days. I bought a six pack of the spice jars. I keep four with different varieties in my mighty case, and two by my ssv. And near my ssv, I have a pint size glass jar for leftovers that I use the most. Just a little of this and a little of that.

Edit : just thought back of what I used when I combusted. Various joint cases, and herbs in a plastic bag. Vaping is much better, lol.

I think grinding gives the best experience for most vapes. You can trim it down with scissors to the same grind my 2 pc SC does, but it takes a while and can be pretty uncomfortable for older hands.

I try to grind only what I'm going to use in next few hours, but with different strains and different vaping situations, sometimes have leftovers. I use these little screw top containers for all kinds of things. There are many different ones on Amazon or all over the web. I use them for taking some out with a portable (or visiting) and not taking a grinder, saving ABV from portables and storing my ground leftovers. If storing for more than overnight, I just put one or a couple of these in a half pint mason jar and seal tight. Depending on rotation of boveda packs - often have one of those in bottom of jar anyway. When I'm going to be out overnight and taking one or a few of these with me, I put a piece of saran wrap over them before screwing the lid on. Seems to keep them nearly airtight. Think I bought 25 of them a couple years ago for like $6, and still haven't even used half.

Thanks.
What would you say their diameter is?
My leftovers from grinding and not using right away would be very minimal

I usually use my 3 piece grinder that I've had for years. I usually just grind as I go but if I want to store a little I like to use something that has no smell. The wooden piece in the middle has a hidden door. It fits in like a puzzle piece. If I want a more coarse grind I use a plastic grinder.

There are all different sizes available. Check the descriptions on Amazon or where ever. Sometimes they are sold as bead tins or cosmetic containers. Mine are about 1 1/8". Sometimes wish they were just a little bigger, but they do fine. Use two for if needed for whatever.

They do close tightly, but not totally airtight. This is why I put in mason jar or use a small piece of saran wrap between lid and body for a tighter seal when needed. Have only had two or three in half pint mason jar at a time, but could probably squeeze 4 or 5 if needed.

Perfect? Not really IMO. Perfect would have a rubber seal on each. Close enough? Hell yeah!! Like I said, think I got 25 for $6. Half of them are still unused in original bag and I've given a few away to friends. For the price, they can't be beat - especially if you go portable a lot. Grind at home, put in these, good to go for the whole day or night.

@MinnBobber - I hope you don't consider this a thread derailment but I know you have an MV, so I wanted to comment that I have started using unground/uncut nugs in both the tc and gc MV's, exclusively. I get like 3-5 incredibly tasty rips depending on strain, then use a pick to break up the dried herb in the wire basket, then take like 3-4 more draws that leave massive clouds. I think it give the best initial flavor and overall total effect, leaving no trichs behind. Solves your storage/grindage problem too.

I still grind for the Vapman always and about half the time for the Crafty, but pretty much never grind for the MV's. Only when I have some super dense material

@kimura It's very interesting that you mention uncut/unground and the miniVAP. With more strains to chose from, and not wanting "SCS shredded leftovers", I'm halfway there LOL. Lately my herbs have been unground but still cut.
I snip tiny tiny little pieces and do my usual small loads with no leftover excess. No stirring necessary.

I might try going farther that direction, like you, with uncut and unground for grins. I love to experiment / try new techniques.
I'm considering the @Ratchett scoop/ pick combo so I'd then have a pic to break up the partially vaped herb.
Waiting for his "hydratube adapter"-- big silicone plug for "mouth end" of hydratube with 18 mm male nub. Would ship them together. Can then use @Oregonglassblower glass mouthpiece with a hydratube OR slip a whip into the adapter. I'm not a fan of bong style glass--straight tubes. But love the flavor of my new hydraline.

So I probably should try a small, whole nug.
With my teflon core miniVAP and my tiny cut pieces, on blurple, with Super Lemon Haze that's well aged/cured, it's about the best tasting vapor one could ever imagine !!!!

I'm going to try the MV with tiny cut pieces when I get back from this trip. Sounds like it might just bridge the gap between ground and "whole" flower.

the whole flower method does make for a more prolonged session. I think that's the trade off.

I used to do that, but then I realized it was less efficient than using my fingers in a sort of circular pattern with scissors. I swear I should be a human grinder.

For vaping if I don't want as fine a consistency I used a 4 piece grinder.

All my vaped leftovers go into one big glass jar for making edibles. If I had easier access to a variety of strains, I'd consider sorting my leftovers indica/sativa! As far as the excess from grinding when "your eyes are bigger than your lungs," I will keep it either in the grinder or if I have a spare pill bottle.

More strains doesn't have to mean more containers. Taking @DieHard 's suggestion may make your life easier. Who doesn't enjoy a good salad bowl, fruit punch, Frankenstein, etc? Makes for a unique blend like no other.

buds stay in separate mason jars. i bust up with 4 piece titanium grinder and put in 9 dram poly jar (i have a couple different colors, and those are actually fairly large for my consumption lol). before i had those tools i either finger crumble or tiny super sharp scissors onto piece of paper which i still do on occasion, mostly for nostalgia or when i want *everything* to make it to the bowl. grinding has a loss, but with a screen you reclaim...sometimes i just want it all.
