Strangely at the end near 400 this thing just started creating plumes, 5-6 foot plumes of vapor. I'm medicated as hell right now. I mean fat cloud after fat cloud after fat cloud. Every hit tasted great, even the typical popcorn ones weren't dry, they were still comfortable to hit and produced cumulonimbous vapor.

I think you are correct in speculating that it has to do with your material. Moisture and quality are both big factors in determining what kinds of clouds I get.

What would you say the difference was? The dryness of the bud? The strain? I'm curious. Im starting to think the crafty only likes stuff that's really dry and cured nice

Don't vaporizers generally prefer dry material?

I have found that to be true. If your material is moist you could just let it air out a bit or add a little rind into your jar. I've eveb used the weird packets you see in beef jerky, etc. Kept the material bone dry.

Guys, there's always been something that flakes on my previous vapes.... Finally when S&B came out with Crafty I was happy..thought this would be rock solid even if it is plastic. But this morning as I was cleaning the herb chamber with q-tip and rubbing alcohol, the lip around the herb chamber that holds the cooling unit just chipped and broke right off...There wasn't any undue pressure on it... So this thing is not rock solid after all ... Ugh! now off to S&B customer service to see how it goes ... bummed!

What's the best way to remove the screen on the herb chamber to clean the heating element and what's the best way to put it back. Looks like it's not too easy to get back into place without bending the screen

I was thinking about trying that as well since I enjoy the clouds way more on full temp and for some weird reason I find it less harsh when I flip it to full temp. You did it start to finish at full temp? How was the beginning? Do you like that better then starting at a lower temp? Also do you use a fine grind or regular?

Yes start to finish max temps. I got 2 huge clouds then 2 very small ones. Taste on first was ok, the rest was that high temp taste which I dont prefer. I use dry herb using the included herb mill. It grinds better than my 2 piece space case.

My regular seasions are at 185c then boost to 210 once that vapor fades. I prefer this method personally but the relaxation feeling I got from this sativa gives me a way to vape before bed so Im not feeling like I need to be doing something. Generally i stop vaping a couple hours before bed so I can actually sleep. Going to try out the mango tonight at max temps.

That is EXACTLY what happened to mine and in the same way except I was using the cleaning brush at the time. I sent mine into S&B with a nice letter and they sent me a new one.

It's funny that's exactly the temps I use. 365 and then max at boost. Do you stuff the chamber? Seems a bit small to only be getting 2 fat clouds and 2 small ones

It's two separate vapexhale pieces combined into one badass unit. They have offered a lot of killer glass over the years.

your picture is cut off on top.
what's on top of the hydratube, a J hook mouthpiece?
With a hydratube, what size J-hook mates to it??
Thanks

elmomuzz

That just happened...
It's a 18mm j fluted mouthpiece. You can also really go for it and mount yet another water piece to the top of it. hehe

So, I didn't really think this thing would need to be around/reviewed for very long to get the impression that it's awesome (The Volcano is the only desktop vape I've enjoyed thus far and trust S&B a lot when it comes to quality/engineering). I do hope some of the heating/app issues work themselves out at some point though.

Anyway, as much as I'd love to read this WHOLE thread to found out interesting things about the unit, I may be sold (I lost my Pax and I'm told this makes for a wicket Pax replacement too). My only issue is, yes, the thing is friggin expensive. I paid what I paid for my Pax, and even the Volcano was well worth the money, but I REALLY want to get this thing on sale. Has it been? Will it be? Massdrop doesn't seem to really work how it's supposed to (I see plenty of requests for multiple random crafy pages, but no sale set up), anyone else find that this has been on sale at all so far? I'm guessing though that it's Newness plus the SB brand will mean it may never be on sale, and if it will be it may be a decade from now :p ?

Definitely not bro, don't count on it. Look how long it took the price on the volcano to drop anywhere. Years bro. Unless your talking about $20 that you can probably find somewhere

I replaced the Pax with the Crafty and I'm a huge fan of the Pax but it has literally sat there since I got the Crafty.

I've seen no sales and it is a steep price but thus far it's the zenith of portables IMO.

Hmmm I had figured as much (although that seems true for most high end vapes, when was the last time the Volcano/Vapexhale ect been on sale really..).

Massdrop seems to be a thing a lot of people on here are into, and if one hasn't happened at least once, it seems likely if there is demand. Anyone have any inklings on one of those happening any time soon? Or did I miss it?

This was about 1/5 a bowl tamped down with toolpick and an oilpad on top. Probably .07gr if I were to guess. I dont need a whole lot to get medicated.

Why does the Crafty get full of gunk so fast, every time I open it there is a big sticky brown mess waiting for me.

Yea I don't understand this either. It's vaped bud stuck in there. Not sure if they designed it this way it's retarted

I had the exact oposite part broke off on its own with no apparent reason. I guess S&B is not Lego precise and this awesome lock design sometimes fucks up. I consider getting a replacement unit, especialy because of software issues I'm getting!

zQShfr2.jpg

A few times already I had the "blinking" issue when the unit would not auto shut off nor enable me to use two modes. I don't know if it is boost only or jsut blinking because on the phone part its 0C or smth...

I also got faulty oil pads at first.

Lol. I should get a replacement. I love it though 100%.

Cooling causes condensation of vapour. The craftys cooling unit does an impressive job at that so you will naturally expect condensate in the cooling chamber. Good thing is you can reclaim it, which makes for a great couple of sessions. There was a great cleaning guide written up by vape Dr on this thread...somewhere lol

Man my Crafty's going like a mother fucker. I just had the session of my life in terms of portables.

This past session made Crafty like a portable EVO, it was insane. Probably 10 enormous plumes, I was truly in disbelief during the session, I had my mind made up; I was going to ride it out til the end, I was medicated for hours but my god was this unit producing enormous vapor at all temperatures. I was getting legit plumes at 355 360 365 370 385 395 400+ I'd say probably 13-14 fatass vapor draws.

Even in my da Buddah, my EVO, the digicano, Wispr nothing milked it like that, through all those temperature ranges, consistently producing cloud after cloud. I'm thoroughly convinced of what the unit is capable of doing.

The only limiting factor is the material you put in. The heat generation, the temp specificity it's on point, the Crafty is a powerful ass vaporizer if you know how to use it right, and of course if your material is well prepared and cared for.

I decided it was time to replace the oil pad the other day, to check for hot metal taste, didn't notice any, but the interesting point.

The old pad was used so much, it is pretty much deformed from all the picking and pinching to get it out of the bowl. I would say I've ran at least an ounce of high quality flowers under it, ground up good and fine. I covered the old oil pad in ISO and shook the mixture off and on for about 20 minutes. Let it set and evaporate. Sad to say, I have 0 reclaim from it. Just a few specs of dry ABV powder bits.

I had used reclaim oil on this pad at least 4 times to boost some sessions. Looks like I'll just be tossing these away when I am ready to swap them out.

All this being said, if anyone is worried about the oil pad holding back goodies from you, consider this debunked! Your cooling chamber is your goldmine for reclaim. About half an ounce of herb through it and it's a good time to clean it.

ALSO - During these cold months, be sure NOT to try and flip around the mouthpiece when the unit is super cold, like if you've been outside for a while. The oil acts like a superglue in the cold and will break that mouthpiece off as you rotate it.

It sounds like maybe your grind is too fine? I'll get build up eventually, but it usually takes probably close to two dozen full bowls. What you're describing is definitely different from my experiences.

You can try putting the oil pad on top of the bud, or you can replace the screen in your cooling unit with the finer screen they sent you as a replacement for the screen at the bottom of the bowl.

Damn. I've been working my way through this thread but jumped ahead to post: my Crafty died this morning. Got the red-yellow flashing light of death. Gonna have to send it back in I guess.

This is going to be a lonely next two weeks :(
