Unfortunate moose encounters

That actually went well; the moose didn't want them on "her" trail, most likely she had a foal nearby and they got in between. The riders wisely stopped to try and defuse the situation, then finally fired a warning shot to get through. Here in the northlands, moose kill about 10x as many people as bears, they are not very intelligent but very territorial and they fucking kick forward with their double-jointed front legs. They will attack to protect themselves, their young and their territory. This was a good example of how to defuse what could have been a very bad outcome. I'm not a motorized backcountry guy, but if it had been a couple of skiers they wouldn't have had the snowmachines in between them and the pissed-off mama moose.

The riders didn't stop until she turned around and confronted them. Do you actually think that was "wise"?How 'bout rather than tailing her, they just waited until she got off the fucking road?

I don't think they were tailing her, they could have easily sped up. I believe that they were hoping she would leave the trail of her own accord, and maybe she would have, that's why I think there may have been a foal.

Otoh they were videotaping it so maybe they wanted to make it more interesting, hard to tell really.

Just another confrontation between man and nature, it could have gone a little better or a lot worse.

They were less than 30 yards from her before she finally stopped and turned around. I see that as provocation that could have very easily have been avoided.

Don't get me started. I could show you a video of another incident where the moose was shot dead and left. Very similar situation, the riders don't stop, they continue riding. All on video. As an avid snowmobiler I can't tell you upset this kind of stuff makes me. 2 stroke snowmobiles have a low growl that sounds not unlike an angry bull moose. Add the handlebars and you have no idea what the moose thinks you are. So the moral of the story is... if you see a moose on the trail, THE SECOND you see it STOP your machine and turn it off. Immediately. These people need to be slapped around. I have encountered dozens of moose in the woods and would never think of chasing it down the trail or scaring it away!

I found the video- STERN WARNING!!!! CONTENT WARNING!!!! A moose is shot and killed in this video at point blank... do not watch if you are uncomfortable with these kinds of things.

Okay you guys are right, the guys should have stopped sooner, they probably have a hunting mentality so they believed that they were behaving humanely because it didn't end up like this^ which is a lot worse.
