I am new to vaping and need a little advice. After much reading on this site, and trying a whip style vape (the hot box), I decided that a PD appealed to me and ordered one this week. In the mean time, I am borrowing a Hot Box to get me through the wait (All good things are worth waiting for). I haven't been able to find any info on this vape on this site; probably because it's not that great of a vape....right? I know I am not feeling the love for it.

One of the problems is that I only seem to be getting a couple of hits off each load. Granted the load isn't that big. It could be the visual; seeing the weed still there. I would probably only get a couple of hits off the same amount combusting. But I don't seem to ever get the popcorn taste, even when the vapor has stopped and the load has browned.

Also, has anyone tried smoking kief with this style vape? It doesn't seem like it would work very well. I don't want to waste any, so if you can't with this style, I'm going to have a nice stash by the time my PD finally gets here!!!:brow:

Okay, so duh, I just saw the thread on the Hot Box after I posted the above. Forgive my "newbie" ignorance. I swear I looked for a thread for a few days before posting. Yeah.....this Hot box isn't working at all........:ko:

Still, any tips would be appreciated.......

Some like the Hot Box, some don't.

Are the remains very dark brown? If your temp is high, you'll get fewer hits per bowl.

But I don't seem to ever get the popcorn taste, even when the vapor has stopped and the load has browned.
Even if it doesn't hit you as a 'burnt popcorn' taste, it should still taste kind of yucky compared to a hit where you're still getting some fresh vapor.

has anyone tried smoking kief with this style vape? It doesn't seem like it would work very well.
Since it's not working for you very well with herb, you may want to save it for the PD. No matter what vape you use, you should put kief on top of some herb, or even between two layers of it. It'll vape directly on a screen, but you don't want to gum it up.

You may want to contact Hot Box. Maybe they can give you a tip or two. http://www.hotboxvapors.com/contact.php

Good luck with it.

Thanks for responding.

They didn't get as dark as I expected they would. There is only one temp on a Hot Box, so there's no adjusting to be done.

Could be, could be. Well, like I've said before, all good things are worth waiting for!

And hey, maybe practice will make perfect on this thing. I think I'll go practice right now....

Thanks again.

figure I'd chime in on the hot box even though it's an old thread.

I'm very new to vaping, just over a week. So far the hot box is working like a champ. It has completely sold me on vaporizing, i have turned my back on combustion.

Still, i'm now sold on vaporizing enough to immediately want to upgrade and have already ordered a DBV.
I think it will be "better" or at least i like a lot of things about the DBV better now that i'm more informed and I don't care about spending extra cash now that I'm sold on vaporizing.

So kind of a mixed review. I think it's going to be worth shelling out more cash for a fancier vape for me. But sticking to a little less cash / less fancy I think it does fine. I'm going to try and unload it to a friend of mine who i think will be happy with the "just turn it on, don't have to tweak anything" hot box.

[EDIT]
couple more notes after having the DBV for a couple days. I definitely didn't immediately think it was way better upon taking the first couple hits. I do like da buddha more, but it wasn't a night and day difference. as far as functional differences they both work about the same for my purposes. i've mostly been setting the variable temp pretty close to where the fixed temp for the hot box is set. Another difference is that the hot box bowl is narrower and thus its easier to pack small bowls in the hot box.

I know this is an old thread but i need to comment on this one. The hotbox was the first vape i purchased and i have been using for a year now. I fill the wand half full and pull slow or fast, slow works best. I get big hits when i want just as i would from a blunt or j. nice clouds of vapor show when exhaling. the only problem is the box gets extremely hot , but i expected that. i would reccomend this to anyone who wants an easy to use and dependable plug in vape for cheap.

Hi RedEyCeo and welcome to the forum. :D

The Hot Box was my first vape too and mine is still going strong since late 2009. I actually still use it and would agree it can give huge clouds and love it through a water piece.

The downside is that there is no temperature control beyond how fast or slow you inhale. There's also the possibility of combustion if you overfill your wand and draw too slowly.

It sounds as if you may be overfilling your wand if you are filling it half way. There is a little dot on the wand about 1/4" above the screen which is the fill line. Unless I misunderstood?

Thanks for opening up convo on this thread again. The lonely Hot Box doesn't get much love here and is an inexpensive and solid vape imo.

Newly reformed burner... now I only vape... unless its on pick up night... guy still wants to smoke when when I get my stash... ;)

Got an Iolite given to me and that started the bug!! I like it as a my go to on the road or when I need a hit, but my baby is the basic desktop Hot Box!! (Should have went ground glass because so many more options for replacement whips... ) Does anyone here know if there is an adapter for the non-hands free to hands free? Would be nice, the shops here in town only know of the Grown glass...

Have a da vinci as well, but have to say not my cup of tea... hard to clean and really smells like fresh cut warming up so little less discreet.

Cheers and happy vapin!

Welcome to the forum MtlVaper. :)

There really aren't too many accessories available for the Hot Box. The whip pieces aren't sold individually, so if you want to convert to hands free, your best bet would be to buy the ground glass whip.

Enjoy the forum. And watch out.... people who come here with a couple vapes often end up with many.

So get this... in the head shop the other day and see the MFLB whip attachment and 3 foot hose extension and get to thinking... I need these...

the 1 foot whip has a 14mm ground glass male fitting and the other end, nice cherry most piece, true MFLB fashion. I can connect my Iolite right into it then straight into my perk bong....better than that I can add it with the 3 foot extension and hook it directly to my Hotbox Whip!!! slow HotBox hits are killer bubbled!

Other than this... the 3 foot hose alone is a perfect replacement hose for the hotbox, cost me 9$. it has two glass tubes, size 6 hosing male ends. I popped one out and slid the stem of the HotBox glass end and the other end is a GREAT mouth piece stem. the silicone hose is AMAZING no more rigidness and I can spin the bowl on the heater like your suppose to, cant with the original hose, its simply to stiff until its been used for a long time, this new hose rolls up when done and comes right back to life... great stuff!

Happy Vaping!

The Hot Box was my intro to vaporizing and was a proof of concept for my brain to make the switch from combusting. I bought the B stock Hot Box with a gift card I received for xmas. At only $99 shipped and being that my gift card had $100 on it, I figured I may as well make the purchase(thanks, dad!).

I've been using it nearly every day since and I just love this thing. Of course, there are a few downsides. One of the downsides is the heat up time(about 10 mins), but I normally leave mine on for hours at a time when I'm home anyway so it's not really an issue for me.

Another thing some people see as a downside is that it does get hot to the touch on top, but I have it sitting on my glass top computer desk and have had no issues with anyone burning themselves or anything else with the unit. You just don't ever have to touch it while it's on so it is a non issue. Whereas, I've had countless people burn their fingers trying to pick up a bullet that just came out of my Pinnacle Pro(also a great vape!).

The last downside I can think of is that it has a fixed temp setting. I believe I've read it's set at 395 degrees F. This is deceptive because you can control the temperature, but it's an art form. The slower you draw the hotter the herb gets. You can combust if you go too slow, but I've only had that happen a few times in the beginning when I was learning.

Other than those few gripes, there is really nothing bad to say.

It's easy to load/unload(just vacuum up your herb with the wand and then blow it out into your abv container when you're done).

It has almost no draw resistance.

It easily attaches to my pinnacle water tool and this takes the Hot Box to the next level. The smooth and cool draws allow you to blow nice clouds while not going into a coughing fit.

It's easy to take the wand apart and clean it, or run a q-tip through the wand to reclaim all that sweet wand hash. I usually pull the THC soaked cotton off the q-tip and revape it for amazing highs. Those are always my favorite days. :)

In the end, the Hot Box just works. Turn it on, get baked; no fuss, no muss.

so the last time i was at my friends' apartment i swear the hot box was less hot than usual. Maybe i'm just used to other vapes, I only use the hot box when i go over there. It was my first vape a couple years ago, but quickly sold to these friends to make room for Da Buddha.

Anyway, any hot box owners think they don't stay as hot over the long run? I swear it wasn't working as good as i remember, but maybe it's just my memory being bad.

This thread is beyond dead but since my new E-Nano doesn't even turn on, I'll write something positive about the Hotbox!

My Hotbox was a hand-me-down about 4 years ago. The Sublime graphic was already faded and blurry and there were some scratches. I got a new whip for it and it was off to the races. It has been left on for weeks on end and still functions great

It's a lot bigger than the nano, and doesn't have temp control which hasn't bothered me much. I think I will be happier with the nano once it starts working, (my guess is a faulty cable from reading a bit).

-I have repaired/tweaked the switch on the Hotbox but don't want to touch the cable on the nano while it's still on warranty.

The Hotbox is a solid vape-very little to go wrong.

You have two choices with your e-nano. You can file a warranty claim and send it back, or you can order another power cord. You should get the cord pretty quick, and if that fixes your problem, just return the original cord for replacement. If that's not the problem, then you still have a 2nd power cord for using in another room. When I ordered a 2nd unit for my wife (my original has the old non removable power cord), I ordered a 2nd cord so she could easily move the vape from bedroom to den. She loves the easy transfer.

...I agree that the hotbox is a very solid vape...
..I had a green one that smashed up and there's not much Goin on inside guts and wire wise...very clean.
...I suppose if it had a nano like temp. regulator it wouldv,..or would do much better in a very crowded market.

Don't know why they never made that upgrade. Everybody wants temp control for a home vape. I firmly believe that's what gives the e-nano an edge over it's competitors.
