Why is everybody discussing them going broke when they more than doubled their fundraising goal?

edit: if they need cash all they have to do is open up a pre-order channel anyways ;)

That's how stupid rumors start- unfounded comments get repeated and people start to take them as fact.
I believe it went like this - ooh they moved all the way to Boulder CO- that's a really pricey area! They are running out of money fast!!!

Plus they have Easy Access to Amazing weed ...

Yeah they are outside in the backyard with a bonfire singing "I was gonna make a vape but then I got high"

If I get my Heat Island before this comes out we will know how long the wait was.

But really...

I haven't seen any new vape that is comparable to this, so I'm still optimistic. Besides, vape pens are huge right now. If they can come out with the Volcano of portable vaporizers they will make a killing. Although hopefully its more like the Cloud Evo of portable vaporizers... :D

Half of the reason I want it for the Water Pipe adapter. I wanna hook my pen up to a bubbler, and heaven forbid if I need to get a box of Heath Klondikes I need to be able to grab my slippers and the 'Hopper and roll on out.

ive been watching this tread since their campaign for indigo money, but wow do they take their time...... i understand their moving, getting new stuff, getting settled in. but they said it would be finished for half a year to a year. longest waiting period for a coming soon vape.

That was before having trouble getting a place to build them and uprooting their life from NC to CO, pretty big delay because of that. Blame the shitty laws in NC :-P.

The delays make me more excited. They are perfecting the unit and ensuring quality materials for mass production, instead of releasing an inferior/prototype device like so many of us have seen with other manufacturers. At least that's the impression I get, from just a simple consumer technology perspective

Me too, it's not unlike being on the HI waiting list, because the design and technology are marching ahead. I'd rather get the most current version available than the version 1.0.

i know it does but itll be nice to have more frequent updates or videos.

Huh? They update all the time though.

Last one was 6 days ago, they have been keeping us up to date, even showing parts in photos.

Agreed, feels like they had a version 1.0 in the vids and are now improving upon it, I also rather wait and get the best these guys can put out.

Seems like people are antsy about the grasshopper because it's being viewed as an extended/delayed wait for a vape release, rather than as a crowdfunded startup producing a brand new product. In my experience with Indiegogo and the like, long waits and delays are likely, considering these are new projects. Considering the specific circumstances surrounding the grasshopper, it would be surprising to me if it weren't obscenely late. I waited something like 8 months for a reward for contributing to a website redesign, and the reward was like stickers and a bookmark. After 6 months I was like "where are my fucking stickers already!?" Not really, but I can see why people are that eager for the grasshopper, being that what they funded is a vaporizer, and they, well, want it. However, I don't think the wait is particularly remarkable.

I think the wait is hard because they promised way more then any other pen on the market offers. It's not some gadget where there are tons of other alternatives (that aren't crap)

I agree that the wait for the grasshopper is hard for that reason, even more so with funders having already parted with the cash for it. But I do not think that the wait is excessive (yet) given the circumstances. The company has been reasonably communicative. It definitely would have helped if they could have estimated better/factored in potential delays, or just given a longer timeframe than they anticipated regardless.

Exactly, but thats why it is so long. These things take time to get right because they are new, but I believe they are technologically possible. Making them a consumer portable is the tricky part, and they are doing it right so far in my opinion. Not saying too much til they have a working final unit (after overhyping for the indiegogo, but this what got them the money to actually deliver). As someone who also follows other gadgets in general (why it was so fun to covert to vaping, a merger of hobbies) I just know I'm preordering one as soon as I can...

This has me a little concerned... I'm starting to see a lot of similarities into how this vape is progressing and the fiasco that is/was the Mivape. Another vape with features unheard of on a portable.

Well it ran them out of money, they sold out, and now are finally releasing it 2 years later after countless delays... And this was a proven company that had been around for years prior...

Sure hope I'm wrong as I would love to add this to the collection

I ain't trying to be mean but the Mivape looks pointless to me(Just checked out the vid)...It looks to big, glows various colors(Seriously? Were they high?), yea...not what I want in a portable, rather get an Iolite then that for 90 bucks, even thats more discreet and looks like it works just as good or better. I have more hope for this product, I hope I am right.

I think like with most anything, in time we will have higher power in smaller sizes with increased battery life at various price points. Hopefully, the grasshopper guys are ahead of the game with the device they're putting out, but either way, in order for the technology and the market to progress, the place we're in now with clunkier performing portables is necessary to refine the technology and get to the next phase. It actually seems like the grasshopper, as it's been presented, and with what's going on with the development of the device, is precisely where it would be expected to fall given where the market and technology are now. We need now to be however it is to get to whatever is next.

Can you specify what technologies you are talking about. I tried to follow your post but all I know of is LiPoly Batteries as a somewhat recent development.

I think you were addressing me, though I'm not sure... So I was talking generally about technological advancements that allow for more effective portable herb vaporization. Your post reminds me that it's not super high-tech stuff. So yeah, batteries, heating element design, materials, ethical manufacturing of quality products at low-enough price points. I think TV had a lot right with their first generation line (the modularity, aesthetic, durability/quality, ethical manufacturing, and cs/support), but the t1 is pretty big/clunky, battery life is not stellar, and the switch gets quite hot. I understand Cera is more powerful/effective, has better battery life, and is an improvement materials-wise, but it's still large and breakable and expensive (I haven't used one yet, but that's what I gather from the forum). Anyway, refining these elements into a true stealth portable convection vaporizer that is affordable (and has temp control!) is what grasshopper seems to be attempting, and the point I was trying to make is that we're still kind of at the beginning of stealthy portables for herb (not so much oils, these require less power so are further along, and obviously e-cigs are effective and tiny), particularly high power ones that are easy to use, and with performance that approaches plug-in vapes, but that eventually things should progress and there should be a variety of devices available with these features (however low-tech/attainable it may seem, putting it all together is obviously difficult and hasn't necessarily been accomplished yet, which is why people are so eager for a grasshopper). Grasshopper doing what it's doing now, and potentially struggling with it, is part of the process of achieving the advancements -- basically, optimizing the elements mentioned above in a very small package -- that will shift the market.

My theory is if someone can develop my cell phone to have more power then the space shuttle computer someone out there can surely develop a dry herb pen. Steve Jobs of vaporizers!?! Where art thou' ???

Yeah....not sure I would put any product made by Apple near my face, even if its a .001 percent chance it will explode. I would trust these 20 year old guys before anyone involved with Apple.
