There's a lot of seriously cool music in this thread. Big fan of prog, trip-hop and anything that at one point involved a synthesizer, especially what was coming out in the early to mid 80s. I will listen to A-Ha and OMD just because of the synths -- I have no shame.

My favorite stuff to get vaked to tends to be IDM/Intelligent Dance Music (guh, never liked that name for it) and more spastic things like breakcore. Not so much a fan of dubstep. I'm not really sure where to begin because to be honest, a lot of it gets well off into pretentious crazyland (which I enjoy, since I'm a total nerd) but a lot of folks have trouble distinguishing from random noise.

Anyway, if I had to pick a single IDM track to sorta throw at someone who never heard the genre before, would pick:
Plaid - Itsu

Itsu is a fun little track that isn't too horribly inaccessible and it has a really excellent video by Pleix who lately has been catching attention for their more recent video work.

I could probably go for hours and hours on and on about Autechre and Orbital, which are my two favorite electronic acts ever. I can strongly suggest a LaunchBox if you ever get a chance to see either of them live, which is easily better than listening to their albums, as amazing as they are.

Orbital in particular was just amazing when I saw them in San Fran last year, though this is a better clip:

Orbital - Doctor? (2010 Live at Glastonbury)

Yes, that's the current Doctor up on stage pretending he's part of their band while they cover the Doctor Who theme.

I'm a big Dead fan, seen PhilnFriend twice, was at Furtherfest last year, been exposed to the culture enough to know that I don't like Jackie Green at all...

I tend to prefer the early work, I liked Pig Pen's work alot.

Now for some solo Syd Barrett genius: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uOokCdkIejk

I'm waiting for the first rapper to reference vapes.

Some hood rat boys by the group name of Odd Future, including Tyler the Creator, Earl, Hodgy Beats, Left Brain, BranDun Deshay and Wolf Haley. In a song By Tyler, Hodgy Beats, and BranDun Deshay called "Sessions", they mention vaporizers in Hodgy's Rap
"I wanna feel her in every way
Mary Jane keeps me high like every day
Bong, vaporizer in the sack now
Stuck in my high, afraid of heights, I'm trapped
Buy a swisher for a dollar or two blunt wraps
Roll it up and make sure that everything's fat
She ain't got time to try to relieve ya
But she'll get all in your head, sativa"

Not too elaborate but still a shout out.

Been on a bit of a Strapping Young Lad/Devin Townsend Project marathon lately. I remember seeing these guy live, it was pretty awesome. me and my friends were right up front. we were like the only people with the balls to fire up a joint, and the band seemed to appreciate it lol. i think everyone but the drummer kinda flocked to our side of the stage more to catch some of the clouds.

Had a chance to spin some old vinyl today. What a pleasure. Listened to a lot of different types of music, but one song that stood out was "Boogie Woogie Waltz" off the Sweetnighter album by Weather Report. For those of you who like jazz, fill a bowl/stem/whatever up and enjoy:

Damn Tyler the Creator is Dank, Ive been listening to Bastard by him.

Right now Ive been listening to a lot of Quantic. I would say he has a jazz, funk, latin sound. Honestly every album sounds completely different and they are all impeccable. http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/search?q=quantic
I would start with The 5th Exotic though.

I also listen to a ton of vinyl. Ive been working on a collection for a couple years now. Mostly Jazz, anything related to Jack White, indie stuff, and I have Night Ripper by Girl Talk on vinyl.

Oh and not sure if girl talk has been mentioned yet. You can get his album here (http://illegal-art.net/allday/ (I like getting it in one file so you always listen to it right.)) I think it might be my favorite album in that "genre"

FLskwat, Nice find. Gotta love the surfer hahaha this has to be some of the funniest shit Ive seen  no need for papers

To the above post, if Tom Petty is an all time great, I'm at least a duke. He shouldn't be mentioned in the same breath as George Harrison or Bob Dylan, Traveling Wilburys was fun but I was always like "what?" when I looked at the lineup.

You might have missed the 'just about' part.

YAY!!! This Cat mentioned Kottonmouth Kings!!! :D
Ok, I JUST now read all 23 pages of this post!!! I have every KMK album they have put out & if there was a way to "scan" for vape references I would do it in a heart beat!!! I also know my old favorite TWIZTID mentions vaping in a few songs too!!! ;) Music is & has been my life, aside from my love of animals & nature. When I was a little girl I liked Bon Jovi, Jackson 5, The Beatles... The same stuff I like now, only differnce is I went through SEVERAL different musical stages: Michael Jackson, Guns N Roses, Nirvana (at this time I also found punk & ska), Insane Clown Posse (REALLY over them!!!)!!! Now at almost 30 (the first 3 I DID hear of through ICP): Kottonmouth Kings, Twiztid, Tech N9ne, The Ramones, The Sex Pistols, The Expolited, Rancid, Bob Marley, KMFDM, The Doors, The Beatles, Jackson 5, Blindmelon, & a LOT of other different bands/artists!!! I went my whole life looking for TRUE love & besides music & animals, I never found it... until last year!!! Now that I'm crazy in love with my fiance I am REALLY digging all the older love songs I used to joke on when I was younger, Groovy Kind Of Love typea stuff!!! ;) Music is a GREAT escape from a crappy day or crappy reality in fact & as long as I'm alive I will love it!!! KOTTONMOUTH KINGS "LEGALIZE IT" 5 song ep coming out on 4/20!!! Listen to it NOW!!! ;)
GO TO RECENT, It starts with STONETOWN
