Underdog Log Vapes

Ailanthus is a weed around here. Also called Tree of Heaven, grows like crazy- a sprout can become a trunk as thick as your arm in a couple of years. The wood is heavy as hell. Pretties up real nice, judging by Dave's picture....

So I've had a few weeks with my Dog, and gotta say, it's been an amazing few weeks :D I love this thing! I do have a question though. I got a few glass stems, and it doesn't seem that they make as good of a seal on the Dog as the silicone counterparts do. With the regular silicone stems, I can just put the stem on and inhale and it works fine; with the glass ones, I have to actually push the stem against the Dog because the silicone sides seem to be too big to fit snugly. Is this normal?
you can also cut off a piece of the thick silicone stem and use that as bowl on the glass stem, that's how I use mine now(+a sleeve of thin silicon around the stem, for making a seal with my bong, but it also acts as a stopper for the bowl of thick silicone)
or you could flip the rim of the thin silicone over(hard to explin what I mean exactly.. I mean you'll end up with a folded over rim), that makes it stiffer and a little narrower/holds on stronger to for example the glass stem or the dog(but, if you do this at the dog-end, you'll have to watch out when removing it since it holds on a little too well, and you'll have to twist it to remove it, so if you pull too hard you'll be covered in weed)

also, this last refresh is gorgeous! seems like almost everey refresh it gets even better

Hey guys and gals hope you're all enjoying your Friday, I'm about to close up shop so I will be enjoying mine shortly. Made some progress getting the glass saw up and running again, at least somewhat, so we'll be putting the XL and XL2 back in stock as well as the WPB and WPB-GonG stems.

@ Zymos - yeah it's a weed around here too, considered an invasive species though they don't bother to try and get rid of it because it's so widespread. It's normally is a pretty bland looking wood (see pic below) but I got my hands on a limited amount of some special stuff, now if only I could find more. :)

Normal looking Ailanthus:

@ JDSupreme - ahaha that is an awesome looking dog lol..

@ NYC - are you talking about contacting me or someone else? If it's me then I'm easy and respond to email, messages through here and the occasional smoke signal as well. :p

@ BlazedRunner - cool man sounds like a good addition to your kit. If you post a pic of the power supply label I might be able to help you find out the actual output. A voltmeter is probably not going to give you an accurate reading unless you find a way (like cutting into the cord) to measure the voltage while the UD is hooked up as well.

ok, here are the adapters I found, each $2.50 at the local thrift store.

They have opposite polarities but since it's just an AC heat coil I assume this is ok.

I'm sure you're gonna love it mr. Monarch. It's not only beautiful, but a warm Blue Mahoe log is so soft to the touch it's almost sensual. It's almost erotic to handle it at times, lmao.
Sounds awesome, the Blue Mahoe is the tree of Jamaica, which is thematically appropriate. When I bought it, though, I just thought "never heard of that, fancy" ! Also, the curves design should contribute to the "sensuality", hopefully this will be one of only a couple pieces my girlfriend won't criticize as being dong-like

Is there any concensus on a solid VVPS? Looking at this one http://www.amazon.com/Mastech-HY1803D-variable-power-supply/dp/B000CSQK5E/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1348829788&sr=8-3&keywords=variable voltage power supply but it's so heinously ugly I think I'd be compelled to remove the voltage knob and lcd for a wired remote so that I could hide the damn thing.

VAPOLITICS!
Silly question to the pack:
I have the herborizer XL (with variable temperature) system and the plug of the variator goes perfectly in my UD.
Here are the specs:

2 simple questions as I'm such an electrical "newb" :D :

-Will it work, meaning bring more power to the puppy on the upper settings?
-Is it safe and will not damage the UD because of "over-power" on the max settings?

Thx for your imputs!

The polarity doesn't matter, but I would be careful not to leave it on the 14V one for to long. I assume you'll just use that when it's 'action time'?

No worries I had never heard of it before I came here neither, like most species of wood for that matter

I think I've read they are growing them in Puerto Rico too nowadays though.

That thing isn't pretty but it will work & it probably is the most reliable option of the sub 100$ variables, but there are other options too. Someone post a link to that one with the flames on it that Dave used to sell please, I don't have any 110V items bookmarked & I don't know the make & model to look it up myself.

That won't work unfortunately, buddy. You'll need something with a higher voltage, not a higher Amperage if you want to increase temp. If you can find something like that with a 13,5V output or perhaps even 13,8V that would work.

Electrical devices only draw the Amperage they need so it won't matter if it puts out 0,5A or 10A.

first off hello FC

I've lurked here for quite a bit, read so far 100 pages of this thread and most of the vapeXhale thread as well =o.

I'll DEFINITELY be getting an UD in the next few weeks, 99% of my questions have been answered already.

Claro Walnut Burl Underdog with Mobius Stemless Stereo Matrix 65mm Tube

I did have one question after seeing this vid, I have a SYN fullsize stemless tube.

IMG_20120930_165930_zps82b9c5a2.jpg

after seeing the vid I'm wondering if I need some kind of angled adapter for a twig to work without hitting the tube?

also Marcellus what stem/adapter setup are you using in the vid?

I was looking at this dog btw guys

Ambrosia Maple Twig (13516)

also this is my first adventure into vaping, as a combustion guy I was off put by not having giant clouds (to me I love seeing how big of a hit I can take) looking into a vape such as the arizer solo, or extreme Q, from there I started researching the SSV/DBA.

finally found the log vapes and subsequently the underdog, and some of the clouds from this thing are DAMN impressive, I love how simple it is, no fans, different settings etc. turn it on and forget about it!

can't wait to join the dog pack!

@SirusSirus- twigs are pretty small as they are so theres a good chance the twig could squeeze in that space there. you could also measure the distance between the tube and the stem of your water pipe to ask Dave if that specific twig would fit.

you could also use some of the thin silicone tubing as a type of 'water pipe whip' which i've seen a UD owner do before. however, this may add some drag but im not sure.

thanks between the tube and stem is about 1 inch at most to the side of the joint.

I'd prefer to have some kind of adapter I guess to where I could have the twig "hands free" like I've seen many twig setups.

something like this?

http://aqualabtechnologies.com/alt-18-mm-male-to-18-mm-female-45-adapter-1.html

+ I'd need the WPA from UD too for the stem right?
