Someone stole my smartphone!

I hate thieves! I am so pissed!! They swiped it right out of the side of my purse in McDonald's!! :(

I've already called AT&T and they blocked the sim card and phone. I just hate losing my pictures and all my apps, including Tapatalk. :(

I'm just about the last person to come up with advice about "Cell Phones"...
Hell, I don't even have "Caller I.D."..."on my 'Home' phone",
and then I realized...
some folks don't even do a "Landline" home phone, lol!

Vicki, if they "Blocked" your "SIM" card...
Could they do a "Download" of your data? Have you asked?
Jus' say'n...

PS: Sorry 'bout the phone. Thieves suck! - s

Thanks, it's ok. :) I am really just venting because I am so pissed off. I get my replacement phone this week. I'm going to call AT&T back and ask what, if anything, can be retrieved.

Does anyone know if this thief has their own sim card, could they still use my phone somehow?

^^^ I worked in cell phone tech support for 10 years so am familiar with this.

Unfortunately, yes... any active sim card would work in the phone.. not with your number or services of course.

If it was password locked, most can be reset to bypass this. Any personal content would be erased however.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

Vicki,

As to the calling of "AT&T and what, if anything, can be retrieved..."
I think I would do this "sooner", rather than "later";
cuz yes Vicki, someone 'could' use their "SIM" card,
and use your phone(as far as I know).

"Soonest", would be the operative word here...
If(when) the thieves remove your "SIM" card,
it will pretty much "signal": "Game Over".
(afaik)
Sorry - s

It had a GPS, but they blocked the phone quickly because we knew they were already using it, in less than an hour! After they blocked it, they said the GPS would no longer work. :(

AT&T is already sending me a new phone, and I'll get it this week.

I hope Karma gets this bastard!!

Thanks for the help guys.

If you use android, check out lookout mobile security. Has remote data wipe capabilities, online GPS tracking and you can remotely sound an alarm if its lost in the house. Some insurance packages include a security app, like asurion

I had Lookout Mobile Security!! How can I access it without my phone, though? I talked to Asurion tonight after AT&T, they transfered me. They are the ones sending my replacement phone. I had to pay a $125.00 deductible too. :(

Great Scott!
I feel your pain, only I accidentally destroyed my own phone while replacing the hosing. They are going to want $300 to replace it, and I paid the retail price on the thing too! Cell phones suck, but its hard living without them sometimes.

I was at my job today and was approached by someone whom had lost their iPhone. We enabled the app, findmyphone, and were able to track down the phone in about ten minutes in a very large area with many people. When I asked the people in the area where the phone was located, they seemed shocked at first that I knew where it was... than handed it over. Lots of hassles were avoided by using a GPS locater app.

Best of luck with your new phone Vicki.

Nevermind about Lookout. I signed in on my laptop, but it won't do anything now. Must be because of the block. Oh well. I panicked when I realized my phone was stolen. It's a good thing I called to block when I did, though, because they were already sending texts, from my fucking phone! Rotten thieves. :(

I have to say, I am very impressed with AT&T and Asurion. I'll have my replacement phone by tomorrow morning! There was a $125.00 deductible, but they sent the new phone overnight shipping, for free! They are making this situation a lot more tolerable. :)

it really sucks to be violated like that. someone stole my stash (@$300 worth), vac container, grinder, vape and extra vape parts. went straight to where i kept the stuff and only took those things. had a laptop on the table that wasn't touched. some of my friends say it had to be someone i know. i don't want to consider this but they're probably right. now i carry my herb in my backpack and never leave any in the house.

Oh wow, that sucks man. :(

Your friends are probably right, though. That just makes it worse, I know.

Karma has a nasty(great?) way of really dropping the bricks on peoples heads
at the perfect moment. The only bad thing is that you rarely witness this
divine retribution.

They used to shoot :o horse thieves...... just saying. :ko:

It could have been the racoon.

If they try to get the phone reactivated anywhere, it will come up as a stolen phone. I so hope they try to do that. I wish I could see that moment of Karma. I know it sounds vindictive, but I really despise thieves. Stealing things people have worked hard to acquire. :cuss:

LOL, not unless the raccoon was also at McDonald's getting dinner.
