Tips for a career in marijuana industry?

Hey FC! I'm honestly not really sure who to ask about this but I was wondering if this community could help me. I want to pursue a career in the marijuana industry but I am hindered by a few obstacles. 1. I'm in texas.. and who knows when it will be legal here. 2. I have no experience. I was planning on moving to Colorado but if I do that, I would be going in blind. My dad passed away from cancer a few years ago and that has motivated me to try to help the ones in need who have no other alternative. My question is, what steps would I need to take to at least get my foot in the right direction and be hired at a growing facility? I know places like colorado are highly saturated with people with years of experience, but I heard some of those jobs people have are really good paying and some even have benefits. How would I standout in my resume for people to be interested in my help? Are there programs that help train you to be a weed cultivator? Also, are there any alternatives ways to get experience here in texas for employers in colorado to be interested in me? Thank you

There actually are college level courses now, so your in luck.

The best paying jobs, just like other industries goes to the skilled and educated. Education doesn't nessasarily have to be specific to the industry.

To get rich on the entry level job might not happen.

I think you’ll have a hard time making any forward movement while residing in Texas. You can take courses I believe that would be relevant to the field but In terms of practical experience, you won’t find it in Texas.

What sort of a position in the industry do you see yourself in? If it is somewhere in line with owning a dispensary or a business then it would never be a bad idea to take a few business classes and decide if business management is an avenue for you.

You’ve mentioned a move to Colorado, I think that isn’t a bad idea, or even New Mexico. While you take courses seek out work in the industry, try to absorb as much as you can, and try to get some experience in the retail and cultivation side of the industry.

The ultimate dream is to somehow be in a position to create strains to help sick patients in need of an alternative. I was thinking on getting an associates in horticulture. I also was trying to find horticulture technician jobs but the demand for those are so low here. I know living here is definitely going to get me nowhere but I've got to find a way to get experience. I emailed Hemp Staff and they basically said there have been long running programs in Colorado that train you to get in entry level of a growing facility. The problem is, since it's been up for awhile and alot of people want to move to Colorado, it would be hard to get those entry levels because the people applying are already having 1+ years experience. I know there are online schools but I have a feeling employers aren't going to care about a piece of paper haha. I just wonder if it's even possible for me to get in one of those programs in Colorado. Hempstaff has programs, but you'd have to be a resident in those states to even participate. *Sigh* looks like the only real step I need to take first is either move or study horticulture.
