Med patient needs urgent advice re: Ghost MV1

Hi all,

Thanks in advance for reading this long post. Some good people at r/vaporents suggested I post here as I didn't know about this site. I'm not sure I'll be explaining things right but please bear with. I'm in pain and I need help.

I'm a recent medical patient (though not new to cannabis) going through some serious challenges right now. I need to dose intermittently throughout the day to remain functional, and then vape or dab a heavy indica to be able to sleep. The pharmacist and budtender at my dispensary recommended the Ghost MV1 for my needs, said they both had it and loved it. Took me a couple of months of scrimping and I was finally able to buy it at a local shop on March 17. (In the interim I was using a borrowed Solo II, and loved it, but was not ideal for microdosing, doesn't handle dabs, plus I had to give it back.)

So I got the MV1 and was excited. I fully charged it overnight the first time and in the interim watched all the instructional videos. Almost 3 weeks in I'm still having two serious issues. The battery only lasts through 3 crucibles before having to be recharged. This does not work for me when it takes 8-10 hours to recharge and I'm in excruciating pain. I can't buy the fast charger right now and I feel like something must be wrong for the battery to need charging so fast. The 2nd issue is that I'm getting hardly any visible vapor. None on the lowest setting, and minimal at the medium or high. I do feel effects, but not what I would have expected from a higher end piece of equipment.

I contacted Ghost and they emailed me a laundry list of stuff to try - most of which I'd already done. Everything's correctly assembled and tight, with a good air test. I've tried various grinds, crucible packing techniques, and draw intensities. When I replied with all I had done, and explained my situation, the rep who responded had no sympathy, just said they'd send me a prepaid label to send it back for evaluation, which will take about 2 weeks - not counting shipping time back and forth. This is becoming a nightmare for me. I can't go that long and I can't afford to buy another vape right now. I feel like it must be the battery, right?? Would they not just send me another battery to see if that was the issue before making me go through sending the whole thing back with no replacement in the meantime? I'm not looking for anything free :-( just a unit that works as it should.

Can you think of anything else I might be doing wrong or can try before I have to go through not having it for weeks? I would really appreciate any advice you can offer me. Peace and thanks.

Too bad it doesn't have pass-through charging enabling you to use while charging. It sounds like there may indeed be something wrong with your battery. Have you tried updating the firmware? You might also ask for a price break on a fast charger or spare battery pack, for your trouble. If you don't ask, you don't get...

I suggest you post in the Ghost discussion - you'll be targeting the people who know. (I'm not a ghost owner, but followed that conversation for a while and it does seem like getting technique right on all-convection vapes like the ghost can be tricky). good luck.

Get a different vape.

I agree. Return it and get a refund. That was a lot of money to spend on a vape that doesn't cut it. Even if you get it sorted out, these issues may repeat. Get a refund while you can.

Then just get a Vapcap made by Dynavap. All the models are wonderful vapes, but the M model is the least expensive of their lineup at $70. Made from medical trade stainless steel it is built to last. It has no batteries, cords or chargers to fuss with, replace or organise. The VapCap can be heated by just about any heat source, from a candle to a jet lighter or stove element, campfire stick, solar heater or the most popular Induction Heater. This vape is tiny and super efficient with your bud, so You'll save money on your herb purchases. You'll be surprised at how much less bud you need. The VapCap will operate when the lights go out and should last a lifetime of worry free operation.

Check out the thread and the Best of thread. The VapCap is quickly becoming a household name with good reason; simple, efficient, tiny, affordable and near indestructible.

Always good to have a spare. What did you upgrade from?

Come to think of it, they might also be willing to cross-ship you another battery pack or standard charger after you ship yours back. Assuming that's what is likely the problem, or even just to try. That way, you'd only have to do without for a few days.

You'll need a reliable vape. @Squiby has a great suggestion. Get a VapCap. You might also want a reliable desktop. If you need meds, you need meds, and you need a reliable medication delivery system. With backups. You might try edibles to carry you until you get your Ghost back. Good luck. Most of us have been there. One reason some of us have multiple vapes, is the need for back up if something happens to our daily driver. The good news is, it wasn't working well enough to help, so the difference with it being gone shouldn't be as big as if you had to repair a vape that worked for you. Further good news, You Know An Actual Pharmacist that admits they vape, and advises based on that! Hang on to that pharmacist! That is good for a medical patient, don't lose track of that pharmacist! I wish I had that. Total envy. Anyway, sounds like the ghost people are getting you sorted out, and you're sure to get great advice from our fellow vapers. It's not fun when a vape goes for repair. You won't regret having a backup. Heck, having a vape that does a good job should be a relief, after using one that doesn't work.
Best of luck, and I hope you get it sorted out.

Thanks for all the replies. To answer some of your questions: I've used cannabis on and off for a long time but have only recently needed it medically and daily, so I'm not very experienced with vapes, and perhaps stupidly followed the advice I was given. I wanted to vape to be easier on the lungs since it will have to be a daily habit, at least for awhile. (Edibles are NOT available at dispensaries in my state btw.)
The retail store where I bought it will not allow returns once it's been opened and used, because we're a medical-only state. I know, I know, I should have bought it online but I was in a hurry. I had no idea these forums existed, or I would have done more research, but to be honest I was overwhelmed by everything that was happening in my life. Medical bills are no joke and I can't afford 'spares' so suggestions like 'just get a different vape' aren't helpful. I appreciate everyone's constructive suggestions and help! At this point I only want Ghost to send me a battery since that's the obvious fix. Then I'll send the whole thing back if necessary.

So you don't need advice? Just Ghost to send a replacement battery? You'll have to contact Ghost about that. I wish we could have been more helpful, but now you know what you want to happen, and what isn't going to work for you.

I know you didn't find the 'get a new vape' a satisfactory answer, but, believe me it is. Vaporizers can have problems, the vapcap is incredibly easy, reasonable $, hard hitting. It is an amazing vape, and you are in luck as 4/20 is on the horizon. I would say purchase the M, I did. I've never had a problem with it. I even lent it to my son, who repeatedly combusted with it. When I got it back, it stunk like a pipe, was black and tarred up, disgusting. It is shiny, like new, after I cleaned it. I stopped using it for a while, when I got a different vaporizer. But, I am back to using it. I actually love this little gem. Please, consider it for your medical needs. Good luck, @Maevemmj.

I'm not sure what the sarcasm is about. I asked for advice and most opinions are that it must be the battery. I've tried all the suggestions offered to make it work aside from that issue. Believe me I will be saving for other options but that isn't possible at the moment. Sending you some kindness.

It wasn't sarcasm at all. You think it's the battery. You want to try that before you send the entire unit in. Edibles aren't available, and you aren't in the market for another vape. I don't see what else you are looking for. That isn't sarcasm. If Ghost won't send a battery, and you don't want to buy one, then you have to send it back so they can fix it. There is a site where you can rent a vape for a month, but other than that, what can you do? When my vape broke, I had to send mine back. I agree. It isn't fun. I hope you find a solution that works for you. I know my fellow vapers are going to continue trying to find one.

I was seriously ill for 28 months as a result of a severe poisoning incident. Lots of organ damage. When I wasn't in the hospital, I was bedridden at home and required care. The pain was incredible and completely debilitating. Dilaudid was prescribed throughout this period. I used my Vapcap exclusively to manage pain, nausea and help me reduce the amount of dilaudid that I was taking. It was a God send!

I had a Vapcap in every room. On my bedside table along with my @Pipes Induction Heater, it was easy to reach for and silently heat in the middle of the night with out any fumbling about. Another Vapcap sat beside the bathtub and I'd use a candle to slowly roast my herb while soaking in a rich mineral bath. The living room had its own Vapcap and jet lighter.

Vapcaps are so easy and quick to use. You never have to worry that it won't work and the wide range of heating options means that you always have quick access to weed vapor. Heck, George, the inventor and manufacturer even heated one with matches during one of his life streams. The tiny size makes them unobtrusive and they can be stored in a decorative box, tube or just left out native. They are one of the most attractive Vaporizers on the the market and certainly one of the most effecient. Highly recommended as a stand alone or supplementary vaporizer. You would have a fool proof vape while you wait for your Ghost MV1 to become functional.

You've got me convinced, @Squiby . I just need a nice 420 sale.
I will thank you properly, after I try it, I'm sure. You too, @Whisper. You are both trusted advisors. Count this, as the moment of my conversion.

Well.............you are kind of going to "need" to get a woodscents also.
I did not appreciate the vapcaps properly without one not to mention the woodscents........which is quite mentionable.
