Perhaps I’m missing something, but doesn’t pulling the bowl accomplish the same thing as drilling a carb hole? Respect! -YaMon
The reason I like a carb hole is that I enjoy holding the WT while using it. It's very rare that anyone in Australia uses a bong at a desk or standing at a table! I like to relax back in a comfy couch personally :) So if I'm holding my WT in one hand, it's a bit tricky and awkward to pull the bowl if you have a lighter/vape in the other hand. Way too fiddily. Don't really wanna drop my FP in my lap lol.. :)

Nice one @LabPong, think I'll give it a go! It's super thick, but where I want to drill inside one of the icepinches is much thinner glass from where it's been pressed in.

It’s just one of the things that I love about FC: we are all different. We’re all about vaporising cannabis in its many forms but from there, the reasons and methods can be very different. It’s an incredible asset for an old geezer with no real community around, to learn best practices and the science, but most of all just getting perspectives from people from all walks of life, all over the world. Thoughts and ideas I might not have come to on my own. It’s incredibly powerful and helped me up my cannabis game in all areas, however I will also say:
It really boils down to what you like and how it fits into your life, it is just :leaf: after all!
It is meant to be fun. And if that’s kicked back on the couch, then drill away!

NewVape has certainly engineered some of the best, most highly effective machines for fun-making!

Has anyone had to turn the temperature up on the V-Rod. Seems like I was getting full extraction in one or two hits at 600 with the courts dish. But I've since had to turn the temperature up when I put the sick dish on.

To be clear, you're talking concentrates, correct?

No, in fact nearly everyone reports the opposite. I definitely had to have my temps higher with my quartz dish, compared to my SiC dish.

You have the dish retaining nut nice and (hand) tight? If the dish isn't making good contact with the Vrod head, that might be your issue.

I'm talking about flowers. I'm using a mini nail 20mm wrap around coil. When I first got the V-Rod I was using lower temperatures it seems but over time I've had to increase my temperature

Hmm, the dish shouldn't have any noticeable effect on vaping flower.

You're sure your something g about your flower didn't change? Strain, moisture content, etc?

I use a method with my VROD for flowers which is set at 740f for everything. The method seems a little silly but it works very well.

I load my bowl with just enough weed to cover the screen and start with a slow draw and speed it up and slow it down again or whatever. In other words I vary my draw through the entire hit. Varying my draw speed through an entire hit makes for even browning at higher temps. Also, vaping at this temp kills the bowl in two hits, but they are two good hits.

Using the showerhead I have found 650-685 to be the ideal range for a quick draw speed. I have also found that with a very slow draw speed I get browned avb but not very potent effects and the bowl is torched really quick. I find taking longer hits with faster draw speed and higher temps gives me the best effects. The bowl lasts a good 3 hits as well. The last one I just rip with the carb cap as fast of a draw speed as possible.

Indeed @BornAgainSteama welcome back. I did notice the gaping hole you left, tried to hunt you down (okay, "stalk" hehe), thought WTF?:hmm:
Then I started asking questions (picture Poirot) and my gut lead me directly to the assailant first time and @Stu spilled the beans. He DEF owes you a beer or two!

Just last few days I kept thinking "I wonder if we will see Steama again or if he's said "Fuck FC, they need me more than I need them, Im off for good"".

Or just cursing away somewhere endlessly. Quite understandably too. Poor Stu, I bet he must have felt terrible and his mind will be greatly at rest to see you back here in the flesh once more.

And it's all down to those pesky Chinese spammers anyway. I was having some fun replying to their threads in their own hieroglyphics language with my little translator app- I tried to be polite but the Chinese language is actually very diverse lol!

Anyway great to see you back bro lots of making up to do with insight to clean, plus a few holiday tales please.

could you give me a quick temperatur overview? how far up do you go?

I cruise at 747 F

I've got a blown out disk at L4-L5 so I don't sit well nor do I stand well. I kick back in an Erkonnes Stressless chair, grab my GP with my left hand and then the FP with the right. Draw until the GP milks, then set the FP on the stand. Exhale, remove the bowl with my right hand and while still holding the GP with my left clear the GP and exhale again. Easy Peasy.

@Muzz I can understand having everything set up exactly how you want it, but customizing before you've even begun to explore all the FP variables imho is jumping the gun a little bit, especially drill your glass.

As @pxl_jockey said, if that's what you want to do, that's what makes the FC community great.

It has been a long time since I have been so new at anything, too bad it doesn't translate to youth or wisdom. I honestly tried to remain a lurker but sometimes I would come across a post or two that would drive me nuts that I couldn't say a thing to help a person solve a problem. Not even the ability to roll my eyes in text. So it is good to be back and I promise to be a very nice and considerate member, as usual...lmao!

It is all good with @Stu after all pobody's nerfect. I needed the break to think about what kind of member I want to be moving forward. I feel I was given an opportunity to be a nice(r) guy and I'm taking it. Seriously, who gets a second chance like this?

Quick question, I have a 9mm thick dhgate bong, and I would like to drill a carb hole inside one of the ice pinches in preparation for my new arrivals. I would be using a diamond tipped glass core drill bit. Has anyone done this before? I'm scared of cracking or shattering the glass. Any tips or advice would be appreciated. :)

I would suggest trying the FlowerPot before drilling glass. Depending on how you use it, you may not even need the carb.

For example, some people use high temps (mid-high 700s) with a medium draw ramping up to fast and vapor production falls off on its own.

In my case, I generally just lift the ShowerHead and slow my draw to avoid blowback (if it was fast, but it’s usually slow/medium to begin with). You probably don’t want to leave the head on the bowl between draws anyway.

We’d wondered where you’d gone, and then once we found out what happened, hoped you’d be reincarnated like this, so welcome back! :)

Slow draws work great for lower temps, so don’t write them off completely, but yeah the effects are different and faster draws work better with higher temps.

dabbing some triangle bubba ice water hash rosin and hell's salty sister on the sh with a lil bit of some green crack bud just covering the screen :). keeping the temp 700 and lower seems keep the ti twang out of the dab and is quite a nice experience. Cheeers

Hey @emmdeemo hows your rosin dabbing going?
I have some rosin now and wondered with all your "testing" what temps u found best.

On the SiC dish/VRod, 660/670f is my personal go to for a 'down in one' healthy size dab atm, tho it loses a little taste, its made up for by a bigger dab down in one and a swift battering round the brain that it brings. Sweats, eyes watering, NO COUGHING (for me anyway :) ), and the bigger dabs flavour is harder to diminish at those temps.

Anything less than 660f and its an improvement in flavour but with more tokes. Maybe 620/630f was a happy medium for me, but to be honest, I've been REALLY enjoying decent sized dabs, no coughing and the battering they bring.

I've been at 670f for a few weeks now. Im sure that will change once I get some quality rosin back in and want to go flavour exploring again :)

EDIT: Just caught up with the thread, welcome back @BornAgainSteama :)

so I am a couple of weeks in with my flowerpot, and I love it a bit too much. While it is certainly more efficient than other vapes ive used, i enjoy the experience so much, my use has increased dramatically. Just picked up some preemo shatter, not easy in the UK, and am ready to try it with concentrates. Using ther showerhead, which i know is not optimon for shater, but wondering what temp to go for?

I hear that @galo, I love my piece and I love using it. Its so cool that its a piece of engineered ti that the hot airs passing thru, no "food grade plastic" or other crap just a hunk of ti.
Its also cool how they made it to fit an enail, simplistic genius.

Thanks @emmdeemo , I was just a little cooler than that and it was a bit airy and too many hits, maybe 10 pulls to finish. Ill crank er up a bit fir dabs only.

Im at 585f with the dab on top of my flower (fine grind half full glass bowl), thats my go to and Im really liking it.

Welcome home! Dang it man, I’ll just say it: you were missed, here and elsewhere! I spent a few days coming to terms with the fact all of your previous posts were lost... @Alexis gave me some grief counselling, really helped me through those dark days. That’s how I discovered it happened, trying to find an old knowledge bomb of yours about glass. I felt so bad for Stu, he’s a real-deal sweetheart of a dude.
You got a great perspective on the incident, it is truly a second chance! Let your freak-flag fly!

Oh yeah, NEW VAPE IS #1!!! Welcome @CanoVet & @galo Can’t wait to hear about your experience!

Also, what happens when Vrod rev3 expires on the 24? Does it changes again or does it just mean that little bundle/exchange expires and the rev3 simply becomes the best and last VROD OF ALL TIME? I’m too impaired atm to not be confused, don’t hold it against me! It’s Saturday after all!

EDIT: for clarity. :smug:

Yes, pulling the joint apart to clear ......sort of does the same thing as a carb hole.

There can be a big difference pending on the rig setup. But basically by releasing a finger 2 mm off the carb hole in instant, you can feather it, and also helps in cleaning by allowing a exit hole for quicker draining.

Also, yea you can lift the bowl off the joint to clear....but sometimes that is a clunky way for a couple reasons. Say your using a flowerpot........holding the rig in one hand and the coil in the other...you can us a carb hole to clear at anytime. Sometimes with certain rigs.....you will get a clunky splashy clearing all at once clearing. On smaller rigs I dont mind as much.....but medium and larger rigs....I hate that way to clear the chamber.

All personal preference....but if you have not tried a carb hole in the main glass (with using water), you have not experienced a smooth back-end of the draw. I like this when I am using such a powerful vape like the flowerpot and elev8r. I can get big draws to the point I might cough a lung up....but with the carb...I can smooth out the draw intake to counter that big ol hit.

Muzz.....exactly the situation I just tried to explain in my above response...thanks for making it more understandable.

Go easy if you decide to drill in the thinner area. Biggest reason for me to not do it there would be if there is no flat area and you have to drill in a curved section. With the being thinner.....it's a 50/50 chance of not breaking or badly chipping. But it could be not too bad if that area is still 4-5 mm? Your best bet......go slow. When you get towards the end......go super slow and use very little pressure. But yes....for sure try it a few times without drilling so you can at least feel ok you got to use it if it breaks....lol

@NewVape710 was saying that the Vrod Rev C upgrade has now expired. It was for people that had the Vrod Rev A or B that wanted to get the new 28mm NV SiC dishes. They were less than a hair's width too wide, so they had to slightly enlarge the Vrod top and carb cap.

The Vrod Rev C is the current production model, and will continue that way unless another revision is needed.

Wish I could join you in your impairment this morning...stupid work!

Edit: And a hearty and vapor filled welcome back to @BornAgainSteama! Definitely missed your posts/insights into things.

I have a VROD Rev. 3 Flowerpot now for about a week. I vape only flower at 600 (no carb) which gives me great results. But Im beginning to notice a thin dark ring around the edges of the flower in the Ti bowl after vaping. I get the feeling its just a result of ground flower touching the sides of the Ti bowl and is due to conduction heating from the Ti bowls sides which are super hot. No combustion seems evident.

What is causing the dark ring in the VROD is the shape and size of the air inlet. It basically creates a column of fast moving cooler air that is going straight down the center which causes the light center. The sides are browned because they are not in the 'air column path' and get enough heat to darken the herb.

If you want to take a hit with your VROD without creating the dark edge ring simple vary your draw through the entire hit. Meaning slow down and speed up your draw randomly which will cause even browning with the VROD. Try it you will like it.

For those of you with the panhead/shovelhead bowls do you switch out posts for different size bongs or is it better to just get 2 bowls and keep one 18mm and one 14mm? How much of a hassle is it to switch out the posts?
