While the manual covers lots of stuff, I still could not find info readily on how to turn off the device, and to reset the timer and other functions. No mention about needing to do both the long press to turn on/off the heater and the 5-clicks to turn on/off the unit. Key operative word is "readily". Perhaps a little chart would be helpful, especially in the box.

...having difficulty with firmware and mac...anyone with a mac who is all set?

I had problems too but it finally worked when I tried opening the app before plugging in the vape.

On a Mac, if you're trying to run the app for the first time, instead of double-clicking the icon, right click on it and select "open". It will tell you that the app is not from a certified developer, but will also give you the option to open it anyway.

Plug in the Alternate and the app should see it immediately. Click update and don't blink, the update completes in less than one second, despite saying it could take 3-5 minutes. Done!

This is a game changing vaperoizer.

However, it seems clear that the manual needs to be updated to make it clearer. We here at FC act as ambassadors for good vapes. I would scream about this one to non FCers, but when I've done this in the past and the unit was a bit complicated, I completely turned them off to vaporizing.

Once the manual is updated and easier to read, I'm gonna push the hell out of this thing! That's a great price. A great operation. Great taste. Etc!

Hello @OyVape
Thank you for sharing your advice. Our team is definitely working on this issue right now and we will do our best to make a short cut key button function chart of some sort available soon. - Emily

I just got my Alternate today and so far I am loving it! Would not hesitate to recommend it based on my impressions thus far! I did not have any problems reading through the manual and understanding the settings; but I've used Ecig boxes in the past which are very similar so maybe that contributed to the accessibility for me.

I noticed a very faint plastic smell out of the box but I had to basically stick my nose in the bowl to detect it, so it was not a problem for me. I noticed a bit of plastic taste on my first hits but I was impatient to use it and did not do a pre-heat so I'm confident that's why. The taste vanished right away though; on the second 60 second heat cycle I did not detect any hints of plastic.

This thing really rips and is definitely worth the price. I loved the packaging, I love being able to adjust the airflow, I love how it beeps to alert you when it's on/off, I love the indicator light on the front so you can see if it's heating without tipping the thing over and I love the hits it gives. I also was really pleased about the bowl shape; its not too deep so it's easy to clean out but it's wide so it still fits a good volume.

I was very surprised at how small it is, not even 11cm tall it's about as tiny as it could be with using an 18650 battery I think. For some reason the small size makes the unit feel more high quality to me... The fact that it can get to +200 C but not be hot to hold 5cm away from the heater makes it feel very well designed. In addition because of it's small form factor it does not feel out of place that the Alternate is so lightweight. When you have a light feeling but large vape it can sometimes have a cheap feel. You expect some weight in a large vape.. But since the Alternate is so small it feels natural for it to be light as well, imo.

My only complaint so far isn't even about the Alternate.. I found the grinder does a pretty poor job of busting my herb. It'd do a in a pinch and is ok as a freebee but I much prefer my other grinders, maybe another row of teeth would help? I really like the segment of the grinder used as a loading tool though, I would have been happy with just that! I've taken the grinder apart and just use that one piece as it really helps keep herb from falling in that little lip around the bowl. I'd love to see a funnel type attachment in the future designed for loading.

If you guys use the grinder upside down for a few twists first and load it in the top part it works good. Got my alternate love it. Firmware update went smoothly, I messed up my cooling unit using 91% iso and vivant sold me a new one so thats awesome. So definitely use 50% water with iso. They had me taken care of in 24hrs so awesome customer service so far. The battery life sucks I get 2 -3 sessions before dead. 18650s are easy to get and charge so its not that big of a deal. The battery cover opens easily so changing batts on the fly is easy. Just wish you didn't have to take the cooling unit off to take out the battery . My battery died mid session and I had a messy frantic time changing it. Plastic taste was faint and went away after a couple sessions , not to bad though. Its very comparable to the mighty like I can't tell the difference so far, maybe mighty cooling unit is a little cooler? So yeah its probably the best vape in terms of performance vs cost I've ever bought. It sucks you cant change temp once it hits target temp. I can change while its heating up, but why lock the temp while its heating up? Sounds like cooling units are going to be available to purchase soon and they are pretty affordable so Im gonna pick up a few for rotating cleaning. That little silicone valve inside the cooling unit gets gubked up and stuck pretty fast then its 0 airflow until it heats up and you power suck it free. This vape needs dosing capsules like now! I alwaysbuse capsules in my mighty ifnthis had capsules and faster heatup it would be hard to beat

Hey you guys over at Vivant, I have a question regarding charging of the vaporizer.
Is it ok to charge it with a powerbank(max output 2.4a)?

@CarbonFiberGuy try using LG HG2 batteries. They are 3000mAh as opposed to the 2100mAh VTC4s.
They last me a good while and were the best out of all the batteries I tested.

Just wish you didn't have to take the cooling unit off to take out the battery

You don't have to take the cooling unit off. Just don't put the battery door on.

I do this when I'm at home.
If I need to run out I swap batteries, grab the battery door and snap it on with the cooling chamber on.

Just make sure the little notch on the battery door is by the pick so you don't put it on upside down "I put a little dot of white out on the inside of the door so it's super simple to see" then the battery door "squeezes" on and clicks locked.

The Alternate has found a home in my rotation. I honestly can't believe I like such an inexpensive vaporizer so much!

I always recommend the Alternate to anybody that really doesn't know what they want in a vaporizer.

I NEVER do that! :uhoh:

And everyone that has picked one up goes out of their way to thank me for finding them a great vape at such a great price.

I always say "THANK @Vivant" not me!

Hello @CarbonFiberGuy , Thank you for your feedback, it is truly appreciated along with the rest of the members on here's feedback as well.
I just want to let you know we are working on a firmware upgrade and hopefully this upgrade will allow user to change temp during session. Please know we take all the advice on here very seriously and am doing all we can to make the changes you guys are asking for. The dose capsules are top of our list right now too, I just can't guarantee it at this exact moment as everything has to get designed and tested first but keep checking our website for all updates. (And on here in FC too, since we will post the news on here as well) - Emily

Hello @vapelordnord , Yes you can take out the 18650 battery and charge in in a powerbank with max output of 2.4amps. - Emily

@Vivant Are there any plans to produce the Alternate in colours other than black?

Hello @Prolusio it is possible in the near future that we may have other color options for the Alternate. We had originally produced the Alternate in Navy Blue with Orange Accents and Navy Blue with Green Accents for our beta testing phase. We call these our Beta Blues so if the demand is there for more colors, we definitely will work on it for you guys. Thank you - Emily

Personally, I don't care so much about colors. Just increase the bowl and battery capacity.

I can live with everything else.

I have been away for a while due to family business. I am on a T break and have been to busy to mess with this stuff.

I did win one of these from PIU on Reddit (JakePIU) while looking for replacement screens for my Mighty (looking @ u PIU) so I am excited. Will report back after giving it a try. I have a Mighty, CFX, Davinci OG to compare it to.

Thanks PIU, Jake and Randy

I think this is an individual issue. I really like that the bowl is smaller which some are complaining about. The vivante also has much lower draw resistance than the CFV which I also like. I'm used to switching out batteries with my milaana so I always have extra charged batteries.

I hope that if they make a larger bowl they make it a different model instead of changing this. It's perfect for smaller doses.
My only complaint is the manual- not the vivant itself.
