ive confirmed that it's not the battery, and I'm pretty sure that it's the cold. Blowing into the USB port for a breath or two warms it up enough to get it working. Also puts the lie to it being a sealed electronics path, as my breath goes out the mouthpiece.

Yeah, I bought it from a local guy off Craigslist. I'll text him and see how he wants to deal with it. It doesn't seem to be a button thing because a) three presses *always* turns it on and off; and b) because it's hardly been used.

I experimented again this evening and the five second trick didn't work for me. So far, while I can eventually get it to work, there doesn't seem to be much rhyme or reason as to the how.

I've tried that, and in fact have played around with my timing. The last time I got it to work only by holding it down pretty much immediately after the three clicks.

I second the bubblerMP. Thing looks cheap and there's some backsplash but it's cheap and it really helps with those higher temps.
